Vel awoke in an unfamiliar grassy place. The ground felt like it was alive. She had a feeling that she shouldn’t stay where she is. She flew into the air and saw where she was standing from a bird’s eye view. The grass she had stood upon was beginning to sink into the ground. The ground then was consumed by a giant worm. She saw a monkey attempt to eat a banana only to be eaten instead. She saw a human looking creature’s face open up and swallow a tree whole. Then she spots a tree consume a boar whole. Only for the boar to eat its way out of the tree. The boar then gets devoured by a legion of small insects. Then those insects are consumed by a massive bird. The bird is then consumed by the earth below it. Then the earth is consumed by a bigger piece of land. Then that bigger piece of land is consumed by a tiny creature whose mouth stretched wide and tall enough to consume the entire thing.
“Where in the fuck am I?” She shouts completely confused. While she contemplated what she was looking at she went to grab some food. However she lit it on fire first to prevent it from biting back. After taking a bite into it. The taste was absolutely divine, it was amazing. However, she felt more hungry rather than being satiated. Before she could eat more she saw a giant snake wrap around the world and she could see it attempting to eat itself. From a distance she spots what seems to be a giant mouth approaching from space. Behind that mouth is another bigger mouth and behind that one is another bigger mouth. The seemingly infinitely increasing number of mouths were approaching quickly. Vel snapping out of her trance decided to open another portal and ran through it not eager to find out what would happen if she were consumed.
“That could’ve been very bad, I could’ve died at the start of my journey.” Vel comments as she catches her breath. The world she escaped too looks much more peaceful. A calm breeze dances through the air, perfectly green grass, and clear blue skies. Vel walks around the seemingly perfect looking landscape. Only to see what seems to be an edge.
“An edge? Does that mean I’m on a mountain?” Vel says as she ponders what sort of landform she is on. Once she makes it to the edge she peers over only to see an infinite sky below. She activates her wind to fly to check out what’s below the land she is standing on. Only to release that there is nothing below, only sky. She flew back onto the floating island.
“So this is a sky island or rather there are only sky islands. Well being on a floating island is much better than one that tries to eat you. I should check what mom packed into my bag. Let’s see.” Vel went further away from the edge of the island and went under a tree than began going through the bag. “It seems it’s a magic bag, so it holds more than it looks. I expected that from her though. Inside of here we have.” Vel says as she begins to pull out items from the bag. At first it was basic things like water bottles and food. Inside, there were plenty of magical items like magical viewing glasses that let the user see further.
“It seems mom really prepared me, I am a little surprised she didn’t put any alcohol in here. I guess the alcohol I drink will have to be the ones I find along the journey. I’ve never had a full thing, only sips. There is a journal to write down notes and the events of my journey.” After seeing the journal Vel writes down the first dimension she went to under the moniker of Gluttony. With a warning about how dangerous it is and don’t eat the food. She then writes about the current dimension she is in. After writing the information down she then continues exploring. In the distance she spots other floating islands. Before flying over she takes a moment to relax and breathe, enjoying the beauty of the world. While flying over to the island she spots an island with what looks to be structures on top.
“I hope they're friendly.” Vel comments as she flies toward the large island with structures on it. As she gets close she recognizes that it looks like a city. Although the higher buildings have little landing areas rather than stairs. She makes her way to the front gate and she sees groups of winged humans walking around. Their skin color varies person to person, but most have tanned skin. Their wings are white and look like a mix of bird and angelic ones. “The inhabitants of this world are winged people, I see.” Vel walks into the city. Vel gets some odd looks and people are whispering about her. “They sure are chatty.” Vel mutters.
A woman flies down in front of Vel and looks at her. “Did your wings get damaged? Where are your wings young one?” The winged woman asks.
“I’m actually not from here so I don’t have wings. Can you tell me about this place?” Vel tells the woman. The woman’s face contorts as she is confused. As the young lady in front of her is fluently speaking the language, but saying she isn’t from here.
“Where might you be from?” The woman asks.
“Another dimension.” Vel says as she manifests a small portal in her hand. “I came through one of these, just I used a bigger one and ended up here.” Vel tells the woman.
“Did you just use a mystical art? Who are you?” The woman becomes a little afraid.
A mystical art? I guess that’s what they call magic here. “I’m a traveler, you can call me Vel.” Vel said.
“A traveler huh, just don’t cause any trouble.” The woman said, but then seemingly spaced out. Like she was focusing on something else.
Did she use telepathy? She seemed to be focused like she was having a conversation. She didn’t hide it at all though. I better not let my guard down. Vel acknowledged the suspicious action. Also the whispers stopped and people began to look at Vel with friendly looks instead. Vel continues to wander around when she finds a restaurant and eats there. However, when she realizes she can’t pay the person told her.
“I wasn’t expecting you to pay.” They had said with a smile. Vel then gets an inn for free as well.
“Yep, this might be a dangerous cult society. Should I leave or should I sleep and find out. Mom always said that life is a gamble, so I think I’ll stick around. I need rest anyways.” Vel lays on the luxurious fluffy bed. She notices a smell of something putting her to sleep. They are gassing me huh. Well this should be interesting then. Thankfully I have a decent resistance thanks to mama’s blood. This potency won’t do much, I’ll just fake it. Vel falls half asleep and after a while the gas dissipates and a group of individuals carry Vel out of her room. She then gets moved through the air by people carrying her.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
“O’ God of Skylin please accept this user of mystical arts outsider as a sacrifice.” Spoke one of the people that was in the room.
“Hmmm. This child has plenty of power inside. They should suffice for the next couple months.” A powerful voice echoes throughout the room.
“Oh thank you for your benevolence, great one.” The person says before leaving.
“To think my journey would start off by almost being consumed in one world to being sacrificed to a suspicious deity in another. Dimensional travel is dangerous, how exciting!” Vel lets out, as she stands up and stretches.
“How are you awake? That gas is strong enough to knockout a sky whale!” The deity shutters. Vel could get a good look at the deity now. It was a giant creature with the features of a snake, winged griffin, and a lion’s head. The head had special markings on it to differentiate it from a regular lion.
“I wonder why all these winged people seemed to suddenly become so nice. It seems I was chosen as the sacrifice to a giant beast thing. However, they seem a little afraid so I’ll solve that problem for them. The food and room were pretty good.” Vel spoke with great confidence. She slowly walked up towards the giant beast. “Your luck ran out the moment I ended up here.” Vel calmly said as she approached the beast. She then quickly swung her right fist into the belly of the beast. The beast gets briefly stunned by the sharp pain inside its belly.
“That was payment for the nice room and food. The next attacks are cause I feel like it.” Vel smirked. The beast responds with a roar and flies up into the air. However, Vel quickly catches up to it. “Did you think that I needed wings to fly?”
Suddenly, Vel is surrounded by fire. “So this is mystical arts. I gotta say. It’s pretty pathetic. This is basically just lower mid tier magic.” Vel, disappointed, easily dissipates the flames leaving the casters shocked. The casters were four elders that were on four towers in each corner.
“Perhaps I shouldn’t have restricted my personal unit’s mystical art capabilities so much.” The beast sighed. It roars as a mini sun begins to manifest and launch towards Vel the sun burns the very air around it. Vel just opens a portal and the sun gets sent to who knows where. “Impossible.” The beast was shocked by how easily Vel defended against its attack. “What is that mystic art you are using?”
“It’s just a little magic.” Vel remarked. She flew in to grab the giant beast’s tail and then she used her physical strength along with wind magic to toss the flying beast down into the ground. “Look out below!” She calls out to the people walking below. They all fly out of the way. The beast made a big crater as it crashed into the ground.
“Is that our god?” One of the bystanders fearfully asked.
“This is no god, only a beast parading as one. It tried to kill me so I’m only returning the favor. I suggest all children cover their eyes if they don’t want to see this thing die.” Vel states.
“Listen to me, my subjects, this one is evil. I command you all to k-.” The beast attempts to command, but Vel decapitates it with a wind blade. She had cut it off from talking.
“Mom was right, using an element as a weapon is really useful.” Vel mutters, as she uses fire magic to cauterize the bleeding head. She then stores the head into her magic bag as a trophy. The head looks like a lion’s head with fancy markings. After killing the beast she was not with cheers instead she was jeered for killing their deity. However, none dared to fight against the one who just slew their deity. Though in the midst of all the jeering there were a few silent signs of gratitude.
The ones who are thanking me are probably family members of the people sacrificed. Vel said as she carried the corpse of the beast as she flew away. “Oh yeah before I go.” She paused her flight. She summoned balls of flame and launched them into the temple and the statue of the beast. The blasts instantly destroyed both to the horror of many and to the joy of some. Vel flew away casually to one of the further sky islands.
By getting rid of the main symbols of worship it truly establishes that the beast no longer holds any power. That will make it much easier for society to change and move on.
“All that exercise made me hungry, I have perfectly good griffin meat. They abducted me before I could eat breakfast.” Vel said as she looked at the headless corpse of the god she slew. She began preparing by making a fire and separated the edible parts from the inedible. She stored away the non edible and began cooking the edible. After the meat had been cooked Vel dug in.
“I’m glad the meat is naturally flavorful because mom didn’t pack any seasoning for me.” Vel cried. While Vel ate she wrote down her experience in her journal. “This place is called Skylin from what I heard. I wonder if I can check the name of the dimension I’m currently in?” Vel attempted to use her dimensional magic not to make a portal but to reveal the name of where she is. However nothing happened. “What if I try manifesting the name onto the journal?” Vel attempted to enchant her writing instrument with dimensional magic. The name was written by the instrument. It was in fact Skylin, but it was not written in Vel’s handwriting.
“Before I forget I should write about Magiem and Valentis in here.” Vel said as she began writing about the two dimensions one which she once considered home and the other was home. In her notes about Magiem she wrote shit family. “I really don’t think I should stick around. After I finish eating and let my stomach settle I’ll head out once more.” Vel ate the piece of meat as she watched the beautiful sky. She was accompanied by the nice gentle breeze.
I wonder where that mini sun ended up? Oh well it’s not my problem. Vel shrugged it off. I hope I can end up in a human society so I don’t stick out too much and can stay there for a bit.
Meanwhile in another dimension, a large city had been destroyed by that mini sun Vel haphazardly sent through a portal. The only thing that remained was a massive crater. Investigating the incident were a group of uniformed people with an emblem of a yellow shield with the letters IDPO. Leading the group is a tall uniformed woman with short blue hair. She had peach colored skin and spoke with authority. She had brown colored eyes. Her group walked up to a terrified man.
“Sir we are with the IDPO, we investigate strange incidents like these. My name is Nataline. I lead this team and I would like to ask you some questions. First, what did you see?” She spoke with a calm yet commanding voice.
“I was looking through my binoculars, birdwatching. When I saw what seemed to be a portal open up before a mini ball of destruction came through. Then once it touched a building it exploded destroying everything in its vicinity.” The man nervously said what he saw.
“So it was undocumented portal magic. I wonder if it's any of the currently known criminals or if it’s a new person. We can never catch a break with these portal magic users.” Nataline sighed. Her team asked more questions from the man before they erased his memory of them using a device. “Just who could the culprit be.”
Vel had fallen asleep due to how peaceful the island she was on was. Unaware of the mass destruction she had unintentionally caused. She was being gently caressed by the wind whilst she slept.
