Explanations-3

"Alright, Carl, what's this all about?" Kalvin asked, his gaze shifting between the two of them.

Carl took a deep breath, steeling himself for the confrontation. "Kalvin, I need you to be completely honest with me. Did you... did you have anything to do with the death of Eriens' brother?" Carl watched Kalvin's face closely. It seems like Kalvin can't understand the question.

Kalvin's brow furrowed in confusion as Carl asked about Eriens' brother. "What? His brother? I don't even know he has a brother," Kalvin said, folding his arms defensively.

Carl felt his unease growing stronger. "You never killed anyone, except for that guy you were just pardoned for?" he pressed, his voice tinged with suspicion. Kalvin's expression shifted to one of anger.

"What are you implying, Carl? I've never killed anyone, except in self-defense, and you know that. Where is this coming from?" Olivia stared at Kalvin not being able to understand what to do next.

She touched Carl's arm, trying to calm the situation. "Carl, maybe we should give Kalvin a chance to explain," she said. Carl stared at Kalvin's angry face.

"Eriens says you killed his brother. That's why he tried to kill you and Melvin for revenge," Carl said, his gaze fixed on Kalvin.

Kalvin stared at Carl for a moment, his expression confused. "So he confessed that he tried to kill both of us?" he asked, his voice tinged with nervousness.

"Yes, but he says he had fair reasons, that he wanted justice," Carl explained.

"Justice? It's revenge!" Kalvin shouted.

"He's right, Carl. If he needed justice, he should have complained," Olivia said, her eyes fixed on Carl.

"And what, expect Bell to kill Kalvin?" Carl asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Olivia could see the colour draining from Kalvin's face at the mention of his father's name.

After a moment of tense silence, Olivia said, "After all, I don't think we can trust Eriens."

Kalvin felt helpless and angry at the same time. For the last few days, he had gone through a lot. Everybody had betrayed him, hurting his feelings. Now, the only close friend he had on this ship was accusing him of murder.

"It's your choice to trust that cunning thing of a thief, but I clearly know I never killed anyone except that guy I told you about before. Probably Eriens is making this whole thing up so he can escape. You have no experience of handling criminals, but I do. I can get the truth out of him. Where is he now?" Kalvin asked nervously.

Carl could see the frustration and desperation in Kalvin's eyes. He knew that Kalvin had been through a lot, and the accusations were taking a toll on him. Carl bit his lip.

"I can't bring you there, Kalvin. I promised Eriens I wouldn't."

Kalvin's face twisted with anger. "Don't you see, Carl? He's using you!"

Carl let out a heavy sigh, turning around, unsure of what to think.

Olivia stared at Kalvin for a moment, then raised her voice curiously. "What's that guy's name again, Kalvin? The one you shot, Jackson's friend?"

Kalvin looked at her, annoyance evident on his face. "Colin. His name was Colin."

But Olivia wasn't satisfied with that answer. "Surname?" she asked curiously.

Kalvin was lost in thought for a moment, trying to recall something. "Ewlin or Erick? Something like that? I only knew him for 2 years before his death, and in training, we mostly called each other by first names or made-up names," he said, his brow furrowed in concentration.

Carl and Olivia exchanged a loaded glance, the wheels turning in their minds.

Carl could see the point Olivia was trying to make. Carl stepped forward, his gaze intense. "Kalvin, this is important. Collin's full name, do you remember it?"

Kalvin's brow furrowed deeper, the frustration evident on his face. "I'm telling you, I don't know. I can't recall his full name. Why is this so important?"

Olivia took a deep breath, her eyes locking with Kalvin's. "Because if Eriens' brother's name was Collin, and Collin's full name was something similar to Erick... then it's possible that Collin and Eriens' brother were the same person."

Kalvin's eyes widened, his face draining of colour. "What? That can't be possible. I didn't... I couldn't have..."

Carl placed a hand on Kalvin's shoulder, his expression serious. "Kalvin, we need to know the truth. If Collin and Eriens' brother were the same person, and you were involved in his death, then Eriens' accusations may have more merit than we thought."Kalvin's hands trembled as he tried to come to terms with the implications of Olivia's words.

"I... I didn't know," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "If it's true, then I never meant for any of this to happen." He whispered wiping his face nervously.

"How do we find it out for certain?" Carl asked, turning to Olivia.

"I know how to. Kalvin, I want your laptop," Olivia requested.

"It's in the last drawer on the left," Kalvin said, still staring at the wall, confusion etched on his face.

Carl hurried to retrieve the laptop and brought it to Olivia.

"Now what?" Carl asked, sitting beside Olivia on the sofa as she began searching the internet.

"There's a secret website of Octagon Verenda where every birth, death, marriage, and entry into the inner circle is recorded. We can use it to find out about Eriens' brother," Olivia said, her fingers running restlessly across the keyboard.

"How do you know about that site?" Kalvin asked curiously, turning to Olivia.

"So you know it too?" Carl asked, watching Kalvin's face.

"Why not? I was a trainee in the security sector," Kalvin replied.

"Being the child of a chancellor has its advantages," Olivia whispered, scowling as she navigated the website.

"You're using your mom's username and password?" Carl asked a hint of complaint in his voice.

"Mm-hmm," Olivia hummed, her focus on her search.

After a few tense moments, Olivia let out a sharp breath. "Got it," she said, staring intently at the screen.

Kalvin came closer to the sofa to look at the screen.

"Norman Erien," Carl whispered, reading the details displayed on the screen.

"Wait, was he a cadet before entering the mechanical sector? " Kalvin said, his brow furrowing in confusion.

"Well, Norman has a brother," Olivia said, clicking on a link. It led to another page, and the image that appeared on the screen made Kalvin give out a heavy breath. His face became paler.

"Colin Erien," Carl murmured.
