Kalvin gripped the handle of the door, determined to get it open. "I'm gonna open the door," he said.
Carl quickly came over to help, taking off his apron.
Though Kalvin tried every method he knew, the door wouldn't budge.
"Let's break the door," Carl suggested, looking at Kalvin. The tension in the room was palpable as they all sensed that something had gone wrong.
Olivia watched Kalvin closely, seeing the fear in his eyes and the paleness of his face.
Kalvin stepped back, then crashed his shoulder against the door, but it still wouldn't open.
He then returned to his room with an iron bar, which he used to break the lock and open the door.
"The extra key set is gone. Somebody has taken it," he said, his voice tight with worry.
As the door fell open, Kalvin's face fell. The group stood in the doorway, all dreading what they might find on the other side.
"Oh gosh!" Kalvin screamed, hurrying into the room.
Carl, who was at the doorway, tried to follow but was hit by a strong, overwhelming smell as he stepped forward. He quickly covered his nose with his hand, struggling to breathe.
"Something makes it hard to breathe," Carl said, stepping back.
"What?" Tara asked, her voice laced with wonder.
"Oh no, not again!" Olivia whispered, her face filled with dread as she realized what was happening.
At that moment, Kalvin came running out of the room, carrying the unconscious Melvin in his arms. Carl hurried to help Kalvin get Melvin to the sofa as Kalvin coughed violently.
"We need to get her to the med bay," Tara said, her expression tense.
"Hurry, this room needs to be sealed," Olivia said, her urgency clear.
"Anything else missing?" Carl asked Kalvin, who was still struggling to stop coughing.
"I think no, I..." Suddenly, Kalvin's expression changed to one of fear.
"Oh heck!" Kalvin whispered, rushing to his room. A minute later, he came out, totally freaking out.
"The keys are gone!" he screamed, unsure of what to think.
"What keys?" Carl asked, puzzled.
"The submarine keys," Kalvin whispered, rushing towards Melvin, whome Tara was checking.
"Does a submarine have keys like a car?" Olivia asked, confused.
"Not like that, but I need the keys to open the doors to the operating room and more," Kalvin explained, his gaze fixed on Melvin with worry.
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
"She's breathing, don't worry," Tara said, looking at Kalvin's concerned face.
Tara stood up, meeting Kalvin's worried gaze. "Let's hurry up to the med bay," she said urgently. Kalvin held Melvin close like a dad holding his baby. He was distraught as he rushed to the med bay. As they ran, Kalvin turned to Carl.
"Can you check the submarine?" he asked, his voice strained.
"Sure, I'll go do that," Carl replied, breaking off to head to the submarine.
Tara looked at Olivia. "Liv, can you figure out what gas was used? I'll start Melvin on oxygen therapy in the med bay."
Olivia nodded. "I'm on it," she said, picking up her pace to reach the med bay first. Kalvin's heart was beating fast as he carried Melvin. He had to help her, no matter what. The med bay was just ahead, and he knew Tara would do everything she could. He knows how much Tara cares for her patients as he has been under her treatments while they were in Octagon Verenda.
As Kalvin burst through the doors of the med bay, carrying the unconscious Melvin, the medical team sprang into action.
"Get her on the table, quickly!" Tara ordered, gesturing to the nearest exam bed. Kalvin gently laid Melvin down, his hands trembling slightly. The medical staff immediately began attaching monitors and IV.
"We need to know what gas she was exposed to," Tara said, turning to Olivia who just entered the room.
Olivia stepped forward, her expression serious. "I'm working on identifying the gas now. I'll need to run some tests in the lab."
"Do it, and do it fast," the doctor replied. "We need to counteract the effects quickly. Start high-flow oxygen and prepare antidotes, just in case."
The nurses acted, carefully placing an oxygen mask over Melvin's face and setting up the necessary medications. Kalvin stood back, watching helplessly as the medical team worked to stabilize his sister. His heart raced with worry, his mind filled with a thousand questions and fears.
"Is she going to be okay?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Tara turned to him, her expression grave.
"We're doing everything possible, but the next few hours will be critical. We need to identify the gas and administer the right treatment."
Kalvin nodded, swallowing hard. There wasn't much he could do more than praying. The room was filled with the steady beeps of the monitors and the hustle of the medical staff as they worked to save Melvin's life. Kalvin could only stand by, his hands clenched at his sides, hoping their efforts would be enough.
Meanwhile, Carl was sprinting down the corridor towards the submarine. As he turned a corner, he suddenly collided with someone, crashing into their shoulder.
"Whoa, slow down there!" a voice exclaimed. Carl stumbled back, regaining his balance. To his surprise, he found himself face-to-face with Marcus.
."Marcus! I'm sorry, I didn't see you there," Carl said, his words tumbling out in a hurry. "I need to get to the submarine, it's an emergency!"
Marcus raised an eyebrow, taken aback by Carl's frantic demeanour. "What's going on?" he asked, placing a hand on Carl's shoulder to steady him.
"It's Melvin, she's in trouble," Carl explained, his voice laced with concern.
"We need to check the submarine, something's not right."
"Why? What happened?" Marcus asked puzzled.
"No time to explain, I need to go," Carl said walking down the corridor.
"I'll come too," Marcus said walking down the corridor.
"Hurry!"Carl said rushing down the corridor. Carl's heart pounded with worry, his mind racing with the implications of the missing keys and Melvin's difficult situation.
Carl and Marcus, their pace quickening, hurried down the staircase towards the lower decks where the submarine was kept. Suddenly, they heard the sound of additional footsteps echoing behind them.
Carl glanced over his shoulder, his brow furrowed. "Did you hear that?" he asked Marcus in a low voice. Marcus listened for a moment. They heard someone's footsteps sound coming closer and closer.
Marcus nodded, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the stairwell.
"Yeah, I heard it. Someone else is following us." The sound of the mystery person's footsteps grew closer, the rhythm of their stride suggesting they were in a hurry. Carl's heart raced as he considered the implications. Was this person a friend or foe? Were they also heading for the submarine? No one comes this down on the ship unless it's for a technical check-up or for the submarine. They listened for a while.
"I got an idea," Carl said looking at Marcus, Even in the low light Marcus could see the glisten in Carl's eyes which meant he had gotten some bright idea.
