Betrayal-4

Betrayal-4

After a day of bed rest, Kalvin was back to work healthy. On the other hand, Clarence was elated not because Kalvin was healthy, but because he could now get some rest.

"I need a day off. You look well enough to take care of this for a day. Don't bother me by waking me up in the middle of the night again," Clarence said, complaining. He walked past Kalvin, crashing into his shoulder. Kalvin remained calm, biting his lips, and feeling awkward.

Carl, who was there watching this, felt sorry for Kalvin. At that time, Marcus was sitting in front of the communication system. As soon as the call ended, Marcus turned to look at Kalvin standing at the control panel. He walked toward Kalvin. He then hesitated a moment before talking.

"Tara told me about the accident. That's a cruel thing to do, even to your worst enemy," Marcus said eventually feeling a bit uncomfortable.

"Yeah, just one more thing I can take," Kalvin replied with a tired smile, then walked over to the control panel.

After Marcus left, Carl approached Kalvin.

"I see you've got a new friend," Carl said, staring out at the ocean.

Kalvin looked at Carl, then turned his gaze back to the control panel. "That guy is suspicious," Kalvin whispered, shocking Carl.

"What?" Carl asked in wonder.

"Yeah, you heard me. Marcus coming to apologize to me is weird. The other day, he rejected even talking to me."Kalvin replied, still staring at the control panel.

Carl was clearly left speechless.

"There are two possible things. Maybe Tara forced him to talk to me, or he wants to show he's sorry so no one suspects him," Kalvin explained calmly.

"This is so messed up. I'll try to keep an eye on him too," Carl said, looking at the door.

"Okay, thank you, Mr. Sherlock," Kalvin joked, and Carl smiled.

"Funny?" Carl shouted, walking towards the door.

Kalvin watched Carl leave, his mind racing with the implications of Marcus's sudden change in behaviour. He couldn't help but feel there was more to this than met the eye. Who knows? Nobody can see the covered pages until it's the right time.

After a long day at work, Kalvin headed back to his quarters, eager to get some rest. As he fumbled with the keys, trying to open the door, he heard footsteps behind him.

Turning around, he saw Carl and Olivia approaching.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Carl asked with a friendly smile.

"I'm doing okay, just a bit tired," Kalvin replied, gesturing for them to come in.

"We won't take up too much of your time," Carl assured him, taking a seat.

"Did you find anything new?" Kalvin asked, stifling a yawn as he closed the door.

"No, but we came to make you some dinner" Carl explained.

Kalvin looked over at Olivia, a hint of suspicion in his eyes. "I don't really trust her cooking, you know. I suspect her just as much as Erien."

Carl quickly jumped in, "Oh, no, I'm the one doing the cooking. Olivia's just here to check your vitals, as Tara requested."

Kalvin turned to Olivia, his brow furrowed. "Why couldn't Tara come herself?"

"Because she went to the pool with your sister. Neither am I impressed to be here," Olivia replied in a rude tone.

Kalvin sighed. He knew he needed to be careful not to push them away, as they were the only people trying to help.

"Alright, let's just get this done quickly then," he said, gesturing towards the medical equipment Olivia had brought. Carl headed to the kitchen, leaving Olivia and Kalvin alone in the living room. Olivia gestured for Kalvin to take a seat on the sofa next to her.

She began the check-up, by first measuring his body temperature and then running a small blood test. The whole process took only about five minutes.

"You're okay, don't worry," Olivia said as she packed up the medical instruments. "Just take the medicines as instructed."

Kalvin nodded, feeling a bit uneasy with Olivia's presence. He couldn't help but still feel a bit suspicious of her.

After Olivia finished, she stood up from the sofa. "Alright, I'm done here. Carl's in the kitchen, making you something to eat."

Kalvin looked towards the kitchen, then back at Olivia. "Thanks," he said simply, not quite sure how to interact with her.

Olivia gave a small nod and headed towards the door. "I'll be going then. Just let me know if you need anything else."

As Olivia left, Kalvin leaned back on the sofa, letting out a deep breath. He appreciated the effort, but part of him still couldn't fully trust his teammates, especially after the attempted poisoning. He didn't get to sit peacefully for long. Kalvin was surprised to hear another knock on the door. Wondering who it could be this time, he went to answer it.

To his even greater surprise, he saw both Tara and Olivia standing at his door.

"What now?" he asked, looking straight at Olivia with an annoyed expression.

"Did Melvin come?" Tara interrupted, sounding tired of the constant drama between Olivia and Kalvin.

"Isn't she supposed to be with you at the swimming pool?" Kalvin asked, looking at Tara.

"If she was there, I wouldn't be here," Tara said, entering the room despite Kalvin's rude manner.

"I just wanted to sleep for one hour," Kalvin murmured to himself, stepping aside to let Tara and Olivia in.

Tara, wearing a house coat over her swimming suit, walked towards the closed door of Melvin's room.

"You'll get your sleep after we leave" Tara murmured, knocking on Melvin's door.

Kalvin sighed, resigned to the fact that his rest would have to wait. Although Tara knocked on the door a few times nobody answered.

Tara looked back at Kalvin and Olivia, a hint of anxiety on her face.

"That's weird," Olivia said, her gaze fixed on the closed door of Melvin's room.

Tara knocked on the door again. "Melvin, it's me, Tara!" she shouted, but there was no response.

Kalvin, clearly concerned, asked, "Was she angry when she left?"

"No, she was happy. She came here to change into a swimming kit," Tara explained.

Kalvin's worry was evident after hearing that answer.

"Melvin! Open the door! Melvin!" he shouted, knocking loudly on the door, but still there was no answer.

At that moment, Carl emerged from the kitchen, still wearing his apron.

"Why? What happened?" he asked, looking at the others.

"Melvin doesn't answer," Olivia said, her voice laced with worry.

Carl looked at the others curiously, sensing the growing tension in the room.
