54. Echoes Of The Past [XIV]

But there was a problem. How was the bow shooting arrows with the same power like mage balls. Or making one arrow turned to ten, and with the same Canon power. He didn't even know how the bow's bronze rest, above the handle, worked. All he remembered was that when the string was pulled, the arrow was fired with a twanging sound, out of through the handle.

However, after so many years, Baldwin was very excited when he saw the power of the improved bows, and almost burst into tears. He had finally succeeded. He could now protect himself from the antherions without his true power base. Well, from the low-level ones.

Suddenly, an idea flashed across his mind. Yes, he would go to the forest to find a beast to test the bow's power. With this in mind, Baldwin put the bows and arrows in his spatial space, and walked out of the city.

The northern part of the city was not far from the dense forest. It was a place where antherions were concentrated, because the further north was an extremely cold area of ice and snow. These antherions existed as guardian beasts of this extremely cold region. So the number of antherions here was not only large, but their power was immense..

Although, in this extremely cold region, there were more powerful antherions, this was not the main reason for the existence of guardian beasts. It was because the region was the territory of the dragonkind, and it was also the center of the antherion power.

Due to the special geographical location of the northern region, it was devoid of the sunlight. So it had been in darkness since time memorial. From the historical records, no human had ever dared to venture into the extreme north.

By the time Baldwin reached the the northern gate of the city, it was almost dark. So he decided to go to the Old Becker's Inn to spend the night. With low power base, he would have no chance against a stronger beast at the dead of the night. Moreover, the smoked ham sold at the inn was delicious and well-known far and wide,

Early the next morning, he went out through the northern gate and entered the dark forest. With just his bow and arrow as his form of defense, he didn't dare to go deep, and only wandered around the periphery of the forest. He just wanted to test the power of the new weapon against a few low-level antherions.

Just as he was looking for the traces of the beasts, he suddenly heard the voices of some humans calling for help. He was startled. It sounded like there was a child among them. He knew there were many human tribes hunting the outskirts of the forest, but he had never heard of anyone taking their children out to hunt.

Baldwin searched for the source of the voice carefully. Then, in the distance, he saw a few people, running desperately from towards his direction. Looking at their costumes, he could tell they were not from the nearby tribes. More disturbing was the sight of a woman holding a child in her arms.

And behind these humans was a huge crimson tarantula, frantically chasing them. The tarantula was four or five meters tall with the support of eight long legs, and the two long legs in front of it, kept stabbing at the fleeing crowd like two spears.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

In the blink of an eye, two people had died tragically under the assault of the crimson tarantula. Judging from the sheer size of the tarantula, Baldwin felt that the tarantula should have reached the copper level of power base. Not only was he worried that the weapon he brought couldn't kill it, but that it could aggravate the antherion more.

While hesitating, he realized that the red-blue tarantula had caught up with those people, so he picked up his bow and shot an arrow at the tarantula.

After being hit, the tarantula staggered backwards, giving up its pursuit of the humans in front of it, and looked in the direction where Baldwin was.

When they saw that a rescuer had arrived, the humans immediately turned around and ran in his direction.

The tarantula saw that it was only a low-level human who attacked it, and immediately rushed towards him in a vicious manner. In its anger, it killed two of the people running towards Baldwin. Among them was the woman holding the child.

After Baldwin saw that the arrow had no favorable effect on the giant spider, he immediately manifested his essence and imbued it into the arrow before firing it. It hit the belly of the red and green tarantula, and traces of ichor flowed down its belly. It shook awkwardly but it continued to run forward.

When the dual mage saw that the two shots had no great effect of stopping it, he aimed at the head of the red and green tarantula, and made the shot. With a twanging sound, the arrow missed the head of the tarantula but opened a hole in its stomach.

It was not entirely because Baldwin had no archery experience and was inaccurate, but because of the shape of the tarantula's body. Regardless of the size of the red-green tarantula, which was four or five meters tall, its head was surprisingly small in comparison to its particularly huge belly.

If the entire spider's body had no legs, it would have looked like a huge wolf head from a distance. A wolf head with blue hair on it, with its lower jaw a crimson colour, as if it was sticking out its red tongue. The head of the tarantula would be exactly where the wolf's nose would be located.

Therefore, it was still very difficult for Baldwin to shoot the tarantula in the head from a distance of nearly hundred meters.

Seeing that he didn't hit the tarantula in the head, the mage immediately shot out more arrows, one after another. By the time the spider was around forty meters away from him, one of Baldwin's arrows had finally pierced the tarantula's head.

He saw the tarantula roll over and fall heavily on the jungle floor, and became overjoyed. He was about to put down the bow, when he saw the giant spider rolled twice, the eight long legs on the left and the right steadied his body, and rushed towards him again.

Baldwin was startled, but he quickly recollected himself, aimed at the head of the tarantula, and fired another shot. Unfortunately, it was hit in the stomach again, forcing it to open its mouth, and shot a white silky thread towards Baldwin like a long rope.

The frightened mage immediately dropped to the ground, and the silky thread whizzed past his head. He quickly rolled to the side twice, lay on the ground, picked up the bow and shot the tarantula again. The straight shot entered the spider's opened mouth. It rolled forward several times on the ground, and its eight long legs kept kicking like battle spears.

After a while, the tarantula's essence dissipated, and the whole place returned to its previous calm state. Although the crimson tarantula was laying on its back on the ground, it was apparently not dead yet.

With the knotted bow in his hand, Baldwin cautiously walked towards the tarantula. When he was still more than ten meters away from the spider, he raised the bow and shot the tarantula's small head three times in a row and it finally stopped moving.

Baldwin walked to the front of the giant tarantula, took out his knife, and pried open its head before removing its essence crystal. Then, he ran in the direction where the tarantula came from.
