28. Memory Of The Past

Lynn listened to Baldwin's explanations, and clenched his teeth, his fists folded tightly under the table.

Baldwin continued. "Since thousands of years ago, humans and the antherions started a full-scale war, the main generals of both sides have been killed and many more have been injured, and their vitality has been severely damaged. The war not only brought us humans together, but delivered us a devastating blow. The same is true for the antherions."

"It sounds really bad."

"Finally, the negotiation between the leaders of both sides produce a good result, and a peace agreement was reached between the two. The agreement requires that for the survival of the two races, large-scale conflicts are not allowed between humans and antherions, especially high-level human conveyors and antherions. They cannot participate in any minor conflict."

"They all agreed?" Zachar asked.

"Yes, although there are some unavoidable small-scale battles, as long as the situation doesn't escalate, the leaders of both sides would let it go, so as to avoid another large-scale war!"

"That seems fair, I guess." Maya quipped in.

"Yes, it appears fair enough, but the question is: what does this mean? Well, it means that we humans are not strong enough, and we are still being suppressed by the antherions! Therefore, you must work hard to be a true conveyor and make yourself stronger, so that the antherions can only bow their heads in front of you!" Baldwin replied. His speech became more and more exciting to the students, as the mage's voice echoed in the hall.

"Yes, master."

After a while, Baldwin stabilized his emotions, and then said. "After a very long time, we human beings have finally recovered our heyday through countless times of hard work. Our essence masters have also become stronger than ever before. But, in the same way, the antherions have also accumulated a lot of power and always believe they were meant to be rulers over us. They want to do that to us again!"

"That's not acceptable."

"What I want to tell you all is that this wish of the antherions must not come true. Because we humans have a decisive advantage over the antherions!" Baldwin paused and continued. "That's the human wisdom. We humans can produce and create things. But the antherions? All they can do is to destroy! Because they can't produce things, the only source of food for them is from hunting ordinary animals."

"Order of power?" Lester asked.

"Yes, and that's why it was stated in the peace agreement that if we humans want to keep hunting, we must not send out high level conveyors, because excessive hunting will bring food shortage to the antherions. And this in turn, will cause the anger of the antherions, bringing the disaster of genocide upon us!"

"What?" Hearing this, Lynn was in shock. High level human conveyors couldn't join any human hunting adventures? Otherwise, it would attract the wrath of the antherions? Anger of the antherions would bring about their anger?

By the gods! Lynn suddenly remembered the incident that happened before the Ironwood tribe was destroyed. Didn't he take a high level conveyor to go deep into the dark forest to go hunting? Could it be because of that hunt he carried out a while ago that caused the fury of the antherions and brought disaster to his tribe? If this was the case, didn't his father, mother, and sister, and all the clansmen die because of his decision? Wasn't everything his fault?

Lynn continued to struggle with his inner conflicts, and his complexion changed again and again as cold sweat kept dripping down his cheeks.

"Lynn, what's the matter with you? What has come over you?" Baldwin was talking still talking when he noticed the strange expression on Lynn's face, and asked.

Hearing Baldwin's question, Lynn stood up and shouted. "It's all my fault! It's all my fault!"

Then, he ran for the door!

Everyone looked at the back of the departing boy with puzzled eyes. They didn't know what happened to him just now. Why did he acted this way?

Baldwin was surprised at first, but then said. "All of you, sit down. I'll go check on him." Then he quickly went after the aggrieved boy.

Seeing Lynn rushing towards the top of the mountain quickly, Baldwin decided not to take the situation lightly. So, he followed the boy closely. The other students did not stay in the hall, and followed behind their master.

"It was me, it's all my fault! Father, mother, I'm sorry! It's all my fault." Lynn rushed to the top of the mountain like a mad beast, full of self-blame!

Fairland Mountain was not too high going by the mountains' standards in the world, but it was more than a thousand meters in height.

Lynn ran up to the top of the mountain in one breath, and knelt down at the peak. Facing the direction of the Ironwood tribe, he cried bitterly while slamming the boulder under him with his hands. "Father, mother, it's all my fault. My ignorance get you and the other clansmen killed..."

Looking at Lynn who was crying bitterly, Baldwin decided to stay quietly behind him. Since the boy didn't do anything silly, he decided to wait, giving the boy enough time to vent his anger. As a teacher, Baldwin knew how to handle this kind of thing.

After several long minutes, he saw that Lynn's mood had gradually stabilized, and then he stepped forward, patting his shoulder. "If you have something on your mind, you can tell me. Even if I can't help you to right the past, I can assure you that it will make you feel better."

Lynn had been silent for a while. Kneeling silently on the top of the mountain, his eyes stared blankly ahead. The tears on his face had already dried, leaving two wet marks. After a moment of silence, he whispered softly. "Master, my ignorance...."

Baldwin didn't speak, just patted Lynn's shoulder lightly. Sitting next to him, he also looked into the distance and seemed to be deep in thoughts. He knew that this was the boy's heart's knot, so he would let him solve it himself.

After another moment of silence, Lynn smiled miserably and murmured. "Master, can I tell you a story?"

"I'm all ears, child."

Lynn paused for a moment, his eyes became brighter, and he looked into the distance, as if he had returned to the happy days of the past. "There was a day, back then. The weather was fine, everything was good, then we suddenly received some guests from the Fountain tribe, far north of the dark forest. It was the son of the patriarch of the tribe and his caravans. They came to propose a marriage… …"
