The bottle slipped from Daniel's hands and shattered on the floor. Glass was scattered everywhere with alcohol staining the floor. A few glass shards even hit Daniel's face, but he didn't react.
Watching this scene unfold, Isaac's face went pale. "How dare you make the first move?"
Then, Matthew walked toward Isaac. "It's your turn now."
Isaac grabbed Rachel with him and backed into the wall. "Stay back, or else Rachel gets hurt!"
At this point, the sorrow that had brought Rachel to tears was long gone. Just seeing Matthew filled her with an inexplicable sense of joy.
In Rachel's darkest moment, Matthew still showed up in the end. It was almost like a dream. All that resentment she had for Matthew simply vanished into thin air.
Matthew kept closing in like he didn't hear Isaac. "You shouldn't lay your hand on Rachel. Haven't you learned anything from the last time you got your head bloodied?"
Upon hearing Matthew's words, Isaac got so terrified that his hands started shaking. He shouted, "Do you know who I am?"
Matthew coldly replied, "I don't care who you are."
Isaac hurriedly yelled, "I'm a member of the Wood family! My grandpa is Horace Wood, the General. He commands thousands of troops.
"You might be rolling in money and have all the influence. Heck, even if you can work miracles or are famous everywhere, you're still nothing in front of my family!
"In front of the Wood family's massive army, you're just a nobody. You don't stand a chance against us. If you even think about laying a finger on me "
Isaac was halfway through his sentence when Matthew suddenly turned into a shadow and vanished. The next moment, Matthew reappeared right in front of him.
Then, a loud slap rang out. A solid slap came down hard on Isaac's cheek. The impact left Isaac dazed. He swayed for a moment before finally collapsing to the floor.
Rachel ducked her head and shrieked, but Matthew slowly reached out and gently brushed Rachel's pretty face.noveldrama
"Don't be afraid. I'm here for you."
After shouldering all the pressure from the Wood family on her own, Rachel had dreamed of someone saying those words to her. However, she thought it was impossible since no one could afford to cross the forces behind the Woods.
Hearing those words from Matthew
felt like a dream, but Rachel soon came to her senses. Thinking about
the power the Wood family held, she power the wood started feeling uneasy. "What's going to happen now?"
Matthew gestured toward the door. "Just walk out through that door, and I'll take it from here."
Rachel became more worried. "But what about you? How will you handle the Wood family's revenge? You're in serious danger."
Matthew was overwhelmed by joy. Back in that intense moment, Rachel had pleaded with Isaac for his sake, and now she was still worried about him.
Rachel was absolutely worth it for Matthew to face everything the Wood family was about to throw at him. "I've got a plan, Rachel. Just relax and let me handle the fighting. You should just get out of here."
Looking into Matthew's eyes, Rachel felt like she was safe. With him around, all her problems seemed to disappear.
Right then she truly realized how
weak she was. Some things were meant for men to deal with. Rachel was no longer the proud female CEO but a delicate woman. She gently nodded and walked out.
Isaac was seeing stars, and it took him a while to recover. Upon seeing Matthew, he freaked out and covered his face, but he quickly lowered his hands.
All Matthew did was slap Isaac, so
he should still be wary of the Wood family's forces. He didn't want to take it too far because he knew Isaac's background and was scared. With that thought, Isaac felt a surge of confidence.
"Now you know how formidable the Wood family is, right, Matthew? You're just a bumpkin from the outskirts of Lambda City.
"My grandpa is Horace. He's rich, well-connected, has his own army, and many guns. One word from him could crush you.
"You have to let me go now. Otherwise, if I'm hurt in any way, your entire family will suffer from it."
A cold glint flashed in Matthew's eyes as he grabbed a nearby chair and swung it toward Isaac's head. After a snap, the chair splintered into pieces.
The impact left Isaac in disbelief with blood streaming down his face. He pointed at Matthew and stammered, "I... I'm Horace's grandson... How dare you do this to me?"
With that, he dropped to the floor with a thud. His head hit the floor hard and bounced up a little before falling back down.
Blood poured out from the gaping hole in his head endlessly. He twitched for a moment and kicked his legs a few times before going completely still.
