"Alright I'll take them out" Ron said as he took out an ant carcass from his storage pouch. Time inside the storage wasn't stopped, Ron didn't have enough points for the pouch that supported that feature.
"Ah, a clean kill with no damage to the exoskeleton. Perfect, I can give you 5 merit points per carcass if they're all like that" The crafter said after looking at the ant carcass.
"Alright I have 50 of them all in that state" Ron said as he took them all out of the storage pouch.
"Always handy a storage pouch" The crafter muttered as he took them into his own storage pouch, it seems like Ron wasn't the only one with a storage pouch. When Ron saw that it made more sense for the guards to be here, they didn't want Ron to rob the crafter.
The crafter then wrote something on a piece of paper and handed it to Ron, in essence it was similar to a cheque. Ron could give this to the receptionist at the guild and be given the merit points. It was a whopping 250 merit points, a lot more than what he needed for the dungeon. However Ron already wanted to see some other facilities the town offered for these merit points.
"Can I ask a question? Why do you need the carcasses? Purely for my own curiosity no offence" Ron was a little curious why they needed so many ant carcasses, it was obvious the crafter was looking to make something but what would it be?
"No offence taken, these ants have a particularly light and hard exoskeleton with some work and elbow grease the exoskeleton can become very suitable armour for the guards" The crafter was in a good mood so he explained his own task, he would make armour for the guards and make more merit points that way. The more merit points he had the more experiments he could do.
Ron looked at the guards and more at their armour, he could see patches of black in their steel armour. At first he thought it was an artistic choice but it turns out that those were black ant exoskeleton pieces.
"I see, thank you for the explanation" Ron thanked the crafter for his time and went back to the receptionist at the guild to cash in the cheque. A little while later he was 250 merit points richer, he immediately spent 100 points for the entry permit for the dungeon. After that he sat down at one of the tables and looked through the booklet he was given.
The man he had fought used enchanted boots to gain movement and stealth in the desert. It made Ron think that not only weapons could be enchanted but pieces of armour as well. But first he needed to think about what he wanted for armour. Normally there were three types of armour; heavy, medium and light.
Heavy armour was similar to the armour the guards around the town wore, it had a lot of defensive capabilities however movement was restricted. Medium armour was a lot more hard leather around the joints with less heavier plate armour, it gave more movement but obviously less defence. Then there was light armour, it was similar to normal clothes and gave someone complete freedom of their movements but at the cost of zero defence.
Scarlett herself belonged in the latter category of light armour, in her own words plate armour was for weaklings and got in the way. Ron would be using his whip and unarmed combat getting armour that restricted movement would hinder his own capabilities so heavy armour was out.
From what Ron was remembering the Belmont line usually favoured light armour with a rare few that mixed medium and light armour so Ron was going to a tailor. The address was noted in the booklet along with a map of the town, tried to look for Scarlett who was nowhere to be seen before he got a message that she had already run off to the dungeon.
('I guess this is where we will part ways for a little bit') Ron thought. It had been over three weeks since he had met Scarlett. Originally Scarlett would only stick around to teach Ron the beginnings however that quickly changed when Scarlett learned about dungeons and that Ron could find dungeons with the wish store. Ron didn't mind Scarlett sticking along purely for the dungeons, she was fun company and if they could both get their goals together why not team up?
Getting up from the table Ron headed to the tailor to get some better fitting clothes, The clothes he had now were slowly running out from being damaged too much. No need to spend wish points on something he could spend merit points on. Arriving at the tailor Ron walked up to the register, there was a woman behind the counter who smiled when Ron entered the building.
"Welcome! Can I help you with anything?" The woman smiled at him.
"Yes, I was looking for some light armour. I do wish to keep these boots" Ron wanted to keep the boots, he had just gotten them and they could still be used.
"I see, may I ask what fighting style you have? That would make my job easier" The woman explained to Ron.
This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.
"I use a whip and my fists. My budget is around 50 merit points" Ron explained, Ron's fighting style was no secret and disclosing it didn't matter because Ron had enough versatility. The budget was a third of the points he had remaining. He doubted he would use all of it but it was worth mentioning.
"I understand, the budget is no problem. Follow me please" The woman at the counter told Ron. Ron swore he could almost see money signs in her eyes when he mentioned 50 merit points, were they really that valuable in this town?
A little while later Ron was kitted out in a completely new outfit. From the bottom to the top it was leather boots, grey pants, a white shirt with a long blue coat over it, he also got some fingerless leather gloves along with it. He totally didn't steal the style from Richter Belmont or anything. All the clothes came with a self-repair enchantment, which was totally worth it in Ron's eyes. All in all Ron spent 30 merit points leaving him with 120 merit points left.
After his visit to the tailor Ron went for his next person on the list, the alchemist. He would love to buy some healing potions or something along those lines if they were available. His last dungeon trip he got a mediocre grade due to him literally taking a nap in the dungeon to recover.
Ron found the alchemist soon enough and strolled in. A bell rang as he stepped in and a strong scent assaulted his nose. There were bottles all along the shelves but no person behind the counter? Was that even safe? Ron shook his head and began window shopping looking at the bottles. There were potions of light healing as he suspected and other potions.
"Hello, Can I help you?" A voice suddenly came from behind the counter and a middle aged man stood there. Seems like he heard the bell and came to the counter.
"Yes, I'm going to go in the dungeon and need some potions for preparations" Ron explained his reason to be here, a lot of people went to the dungeon there was no need to act secret or mysteriously.
"I understand, I can recommend the potion of light healing and the potion of rejuvenation for the dungeon. The potion of light healing will heal minor wounds and stabilise critical ones, the potion of rejuvenation restores fatigue a good amount" The alchemist explained what his potions did.
"How much for each potion?" Ron asked. He had 120 merit points left and most likely had enough for some potions.
"The healing potion is 10 merit points each while the rejuvenation potion is 15 points each" The alchemist.
"Two of each please," Ron said. It would cost him 50 merit points but if it would save his life he would even spend 100 merit points.
"Of course, anything else?" The alchemist smiled, it wasn't every day someone would come here spending 50 merit points.
"Do you have a body forging potion?" Ron didn't forget the immense boost he had gotten from the first body forging potion he had drunk, if there were more here he would take them.
"Unfortunately not sir, the recipes for those are very rare" The alchemist had revealed to not have a recipe suitable for a body forging potion. Ron had seen murals about the body forging potion he had drunk, however it was not an explicit recipe.
"It's unfortunate, do you have anything special here?" Ron had 70 more merit points to spend; it was unwise to leave them gathering dust. The alchemist sadly shook his head thus Ron had one more person to go to and it was someone he was looking forward to, the enchanter.
Ron was hoping to change the enchantment on his whip to something heavier. Ten times weight was quite decent, however Ron was hoping to make it heavier so he could use an even heavier whip in the kindling state. He didn't want to spend wish points on it.
After walking for a while Ron found the enchanter's place soon enough, it was a simple house that didn't quite look like a shop. Ron knocked just in case and the door opened to a young woman who looked even younger than Ron himself.
"Yes? Can I help you?" The woman at the door asked Ron.
"Is this the enchanter's place?" Ron asked if he was at the right door.
"Enchantress! Gosh how many times do I have to tell them to update that dumb booklet" The woman suddenly bursted out in anger, seems like she's a new addition to the town?
"New at the job?" Ron asked, it was strange that the booklet mentioned an old man being the enchanter not a young woman and the fact that she even had asked to change it.
"Ugh, kind of. My grandfather was the original enchanter of the town but he passed away a month ago" The enchantress told Ron as she let him inside. Inside looked fairly cosy and looked like a normal house if you disregarded the table with what seemed to be magic circles on it.
"My condolences, I am here for some enchantments if possible" Ron said going straight to business.
"Thanks, Yes I can make enchantments or even alter some you already have from what I can see" The enchantress already identifies multiple enchantments on Ron's attire.
"Excellent, I wish to alter an enchantment on my whip" Ron said, taking out the whip from the storage pouch.
"Hm, this is a tower made whip, correct?" The enchantress asked, to which Ron nodded. "I can see the burning enchantment was interwoven in the whip itself that one can't quite be changed unless you remake the whole whip, the weight changing enchantment can be changed I assume you want to change that one?" The enchantress said, shocking Ron quite a bit. She was able to identify all of that with a simple look?
"Impressive, you've hit the nail on the head. I would like for it to be even heavier" Ron was really impressed and clarified further.
"Hm, at best I can make it up to 25 times heavier, any heavier and it would cause more damage to the whip than to others" The enchantress explained.
"How many merit points will that cost?" Ron was a little afraid of not having not enough merit points.
"You've been polite with me unlike some other folk, so how about 70 merit points?" The enchantress said to Ron. Usually she charged upward to 100 points for services like these but Ron had been nice to her so she could cut him some slack.
"I can accept that, thanks" Ron answered, it was literally all his current merit points. Which begged the question, how much did she charge those rude to her? Who would even be rude to someone with this type of service?
