A tough decision

A tough decision

Elwyn continued to teach Ron little bits and pieces of hunting and tracking in general. They had decided to not hunt any animals yet as this was more of an exploration then hunting trip. Soon they came to the second marker. However both were a little unsure how to continue.

"It's a cave" Ron said as it came into view. There was a cave to the east that was even marked as 'cave' but this one wasn't. Was it something special?

"We should be careful" Elwyn spoke in a low voice and seemed ready to run at any point. "I'm fairly certain it's a bear cave but there's only one way to make sure," Elwyn said before drawing an arrow and notching it into her bow. *twang* She shot the arrow and it disappeared into the cave.

*growl* A low rumble sounded from the cave. "It seems the bear is home, let's go!" Elwyn said before running away with Ron right behind her. Outside of the cave a big black bear suddenly came out and looked around. It was just attacked but couldn't see the perpetrator. It looked around a bit more before heading back in.

A bit away Ron and Elwyn stopped to catch their breath, Ron noted on the map that a bear was at the marker. "Phew that could've been bad" Elwyn said once they were all calmed down. "Yeah that bear could've snapped us in two" Ron agreed with her "Scarlett would not have liked us both dying the first time we were exploring here" He joked.

"She probably would kill that bear as revenge" Elwyn said with a little smile. "I would not doubt that," Ron said. She would definitely do that. Elwyn seemed to want to say more but hesitated for a quick moment before steeling herself.

"Can I ask you a private question?" She said as she looked at the ground. Ron looked at her a little confused "Sure, what is it?" Ron said to her. "Do you like Scarlett? You two seem to get along really well" Elwyn asked looking away.

Ron thought for a second before answering her "I think she's kind and of course she's pretty but I wouldn't per se 'like' her" he said before elaborating "I more or less look up to her like she's a big sister to me" Ron finished his words. "Ah.." " I see!" Elwyn said as she smiled a little and looked up "Well, we should get going to the next marker" and with that she walked off.

Ron decided to follow her to the next marker, as they walked around she seemed almost more animated to teach him things about the forest. Soon they arrived at the next marker. It seemed almost empty yet when they wanted to come closer a sound was suddenly heard.

*Awooo* It was a wolf's cry. In the distance Ron even seemed to see them staring at the two of them, almost daring them to come closer. "Elwyn I think we should leave" He said to Elwyn but she didn't respond. Ron turned to look at her and saw her complexion, It was white and she seemed to be trembling. "Elwyn!" Ron yelled. Suddenly she snapped out.

"We should leave, they're still looking at us" Ron said as his attention was turned back on the wolves looking at them. "Y-Yes we should l-leave" She said with a shaky voice. and both of them walked back. Ron noted on the map that there were wolves on the marker.

"Are you okay?" Ron asked once they were far enough away. "Y-yeah it's nothing to worry about" Elwyn said. She sure didn't seem okay and those words weren't exactly said confidently. Ron didn't press on the matter if she wanted to talk about it she would.

"Let's move back shall we, it's starting to get late" Ron said looking at the sky as the sun was starting to set. Elwyn looked down before nodding and following Ron. It almost seemed like the roles were reversed.

The walk back was silent as neither of them spoke a word. Ron looked back at Elwyn from time to time almost hoping she would say something but nothing was said. Soon the town got into view and both of them entered it. Once inside they saw Scarlett laying in a small crater.

"Ah! you're back so how did it go?" She said as she slowly stood up. Ron looked at her a little shocked and looked around, the field all around them was cracked and holes were everywhere.

"Uh… Are you okay?" Ron felt like a broken record asking people if they were okay.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

"What this?" Scarlett asked, looking around. It's nothing, I just trained a bit, nothing special" Scarlett said nonchalantly.

"All right if you say so" Ron said "It went pretty well I learned a lot and we marked off some markers" Ron explained about his field trip with Elwyn. "Ah right we also managed to grab a snack" he said, pulling out the honey.

"Are those honeycombs?" She asked, a little bit surprised. "Did you fight off an entire hive or something?" She asked. "Nah, Elwyn smoked the bees and I grabbed some honeycombs, she is incredibly knowledgeable about the forest" Ron explained as he praised Elwyn who smiled a little at his words.

Scarlett noticed Elwyns had been a bit silent since she came back so she decided to join in on the praise and asking questions about the forest trip over dinner. "Hmpf if that dumb bear hurt you two I would probably have gone and killed it" Scarlett said once they reached the bear part. Elwyn and Ron laughed; it was just like they had thought.

They decided to rest for the night but not before Ron asked Scarlett for a sparring match he had something in mind and wanted to try it out. "Are you sure about this? We can still cancel it" Scarlett said, she was a little confused as to why Ron would do this.

"I want to try something out so yes I'm sure" Ron said determinedly. He and Scarlett both readied in a stance but neither of them did anything yet. As Scarlett was about to rush in she stopped as she watched Ron who was only breathing.

*Huff* ('Calm my mind, lower my heart and focus on my opponent) He said to himself. Ron did this a couple of times and soon a small tension could be felt in the air. Elwyn almost let out a gasp as she saw what happened, it was the meditative state she taught him.

Scarlett smiled a little as she too started to emit a small tension. Ron suddenly rushed in with a quick left which Scarlett blocked before blocking a right fist. She countered with a kick of her own but was swiftly dodged by Ron ducking. Scarlett was a little surprised as she missed and Ron capitalized by going for an uppercut.

Scarlett suddenly twisted her body and swung the leg back catching Ron's fist and deflecting it. Ron didn't expect that move and now a second foot came right at him he put up his left arm and tried to block it.

*pow* The arm was hit and he was sent to the side. He quickly stood up and said "Darn! I was so close to actually hitting you" His left arm stung a little but it wasn't broken. "Ha!" "It's 10 years too early for you to actually hit me" Scarlett said with some arrogance.

"Though you did surprise me, did you learn that from Elwyn?" She said as she looked at Elwyn who nodded. "She did, she told me it was a meditative state that could heighten my senses. I figured it would work for combat too" Ron explained his reasoning.

"Well it does but you should probably feel the aftereffects about now right?" Scarlett said. A small headache was pounding in Ron's head "Yeah, headache right?" Scarlett nodded.

They decided to leave it at that before going to bed. The following 3 days were spent with Ron training and going to the forest with Elwyn. She never mentioned the wolves again and seemed like she was back to her old self the next day.

After these 3 days Ron had picked up pretty much everything Elwyn could teach him apart from archery. And soon it was time to say goodbye.

"Are you sure you want to leave? It's not too late to change your mind, you know?" Ron asked Elwyn. Scarlett stood beside Ron and looked at the both of them.

"Y-yeah I really want to get back home" Elwyn said with a certain tone of voice.

"Alright I understand, want to say anything to Scarlett first?" Ron asked and Elwyn nodded and gave Scarlett a hug "Thank you for being a great friend to me" she said. Scarlett nodded and also thanked her for the same.

Elwyn came to Ron and she suddenly gave him a tight hug almost afraid to let go, he hugged her back and didn't say anything. She let go after a while and seemed to be ready.

"I'm going to need the ring back" Ron said, with the ring still on he couldn't do anything. She seemed a little hesitant but took it off and gave it back to him regardless.

"Are you ready?" He asked her and she nodded. Scarlett looked at Ron almost like she expects something to happen. ('I'm sorry Elwyn') Ron thought before issuing a wish "I wish Elwyn would forget about her whole experience in the tower of wishes" and quickly paid the 100 points.

"What?" "RON!" Elwyn suddenly screamed before her eyes went unfocused. "I wish Elwyn would return back to her home" Ron spoke with tears in his eyes. Elwyn disappeared in a flash of light. He then got out a pouch before wishing it to Elwyn's home.

"Seems like you also figured it out" Scarlett said as she walked forward. "She's traumatized to a crippling degree, every night she was having nightmares" Scarlett revealed.

"Ever since the wolves I had a suspicion that she was traumatized and I gave her every chance to talk about it, but she never did" Ron spoke as tears stung his eyes.

"She also liked you a lot, did you know that?" Scarlett also revealed this.

"I'm not that dense Scarlett, of course I knew which is why this hurts so bad" Ron spoke as he cried for the first time since he found out how he died.

Somewhere else, in a forest with a lot of tree houses a young elf woke up from her bed. This young elf was of course Elwyn. ('I'm sure I just had a dream but I can't seem to remember anything') "Oh well, can't do anything about that" She said as she was about to get dressed and left her bed something caught her eyes. A small pouch was on her nightstand.

('Did I put this here?') She thought as she opened the pouch inside was a small piece of paper and two gemstones. "Ah!" She involuntarily cried out at the sight of the gems. She then looked at the piece of paper 'Thank you for everything you have taught me' - An faraway friend.

Faraway friend? She tried to remember who she taught that would sign off like that but couldn't find anyone. ('Maybe they wanted to remain anonymous?') She thought. She shook her head after a while "Thank you anonymous soul" she said after a while with a small smile on her face that even she didn't know she had.

"Maybe I can sell this and buy some lessons from commander Ariel on archery" she muttered as she was planning the rest of her day. Little did everyone know this would be her first step in becoming a great huntress.

*DING* Ron suddenly got a message from the system. "CONGRATULATION YOU HAVE GAINED THE ACHIEVEMENT NAMED 'DESTINY CHANGER' FOR CHANGING THE DESTINY OF A SUMMONED PERSON MORE POSITIVELY. YOU HAVE BEEN AWARDED 3,000 WISH POINTS. CURRENT WISH POINTS 3,575".
