Chapter 40. Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Floor 22.

“Finally!”

“Hilda, it was ‘THAT’ bad.”

“Yes, not that bad, I only had to die by like what? Poison, drowning, burning, stabbing, falling, some scary as hell ghosts, disgusting insects, and death by a bunch of animals.”

“Yea, in case you were scared of them, the floor forces you to get over it.”

“I'll hate it.”

“No surprise, who likes dying? I'm honestly surprised you got through the ghost and insects”

Hilda looks around the 22nd floor, finding it to be a grassland.

“Why are grasslands so common?”

“How am I supposed to know? But this floor… may be annoying… as hell.”

“Huh?”

Notification.

Due to the special properties of this floor, achievement, First to kill a life form with a percentage of at least true dragon in its bloodline will be activated at all times.

“Huh? Isn't this a good thing?”

“No, the amount of blood line is so less you don't get much of a buff and, this achievement attracts lifeforms with true dragon blood to you.”

“Well, how bad could it be?”

Hilda suddenly hears a roar along with her sixth sense, prompting her to look up as dozens of dragons fly overhead.

“Oh, I think I get it.”

Achievement, second to reach level 5 is in use, users level is being increased by 4.

“Wait actually, I got a bunch of xp from the maze, what level am I right now?”

“You want to check? Right now?”

“Yea.”

“...”

Name: Hilda

“That's excluding your achievements.”

“Show me the stats of the weakest dragon.”

Race:Wyvern

Bloodline:True dragon (3 percent)

Level 200

Stats.

(200 S) (200 E) (200 A) (200 M)

“Unlike the dolls, they do have useful skills so your skills aren't gonna make up for the difference that much.”

“So… how strong is the strongest dragon?”

“I can't check above level 1000.”

“...”

Hilda starts running with the dragons constantly flying overhead, some diving down at her to get her occasionally with her using spatula magic to narrowly avoid it.

“This is biased!!!”

“To be fair, you're the only person on this floor, the other 9 haven't reached and this floor doesn't have enough resources for its dangers.”

Hilda keeps running, slowly running out of mana and reaching a rally cliff in front of her, a cliff that goes higher than even the clouds as the dragons start landing, trapping her in.

“I guess this is what they call being trapped between a rock and a hard space huh?”

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

“Is this the time for your phrases?”

“Not mine, I'm just quoting.”

“You know what I mean!”

Hilda and Shila start slowly backing up, not bothering to call Jamine as she wouldn't be of help in this situation.

“I've just died plenty of times, I ain't doing so again.”

As Hilda and Shila keep backing up, Hilda pulls out the orb, causing the dragons to all freeze in place, surprised before growling a lot more aggressively.

“Why are they reacting so aggressively to this orb?!”

“It's not aggressiveness, it's possessiveness!”

“Possessiveness?”

Before Shila gets a chance to tell Hilda to focus on the problem, the ground under them opens up, causing Hilda to fall in and Shila being pulled after with the floor closing up behind them.

They keep falling with Hilda giving up and praying and Shila trying to hit her but being too high up compared to her.

“hilda! You aren't even religious, stop praying and think of a way!”

“May God be with me and bless me.”

“Shut up!”

“God, this is how your daughter dies to–”

Hilda gets cut off as Shila buys a pebble from the shop, throwing it at her.

“That's coming out of your 100K allowance.”

“I don't care, just think of a way!”

Hilda sends Shila back into the system, pulling her back out near to her.

“What's this? You're giving me a hug before death?”

“use your field magic and slow our fall.”

*Oh yea, I had that.”

Shila starts using it, slowly slowing down their fall as they finally land. Hilda hurting a bit but being okay and Shila just using Hilda as a meat shield to tank the fall.

Hilda looks around the area they landed in, finding them to be in a big dark empty room, similar to the guides, just black in colour.

“Wow, matching aesthetics.”

“Huh?”

Hilda looks behind and sees her trail, remembering that it's also black.

“Seriously?”

“Yea.”

Notification.

You have entered the secret area, true dragons trial.

Both Hilda and Shila look at the notification, freezing up as they process it, their eyes widening up to check again, more clearly this time.

“What?!” They both shout at the same time with the small gap between the tiles of the room glowing blue.

“Great, this whole room is just tiles just like the guide’s room, but black.”

“Hilda, how about focusing on the real problem?”

“We're gonna die anyways, go buy me a bible from the shop.”

“... Sure, why not.”

Shila goes, trying to actually buy a random bible.

Warning, system is unusable in the secret area.

“Of course it is… wait, how are you even here Shila?”

“I'm part system, part me, I have a soul too.”

“Oh, so we're okay.”

“No, not at all, because you don't know how to use your skills without the system.”

Hilda tries, managing to activate mana and sword qi but struggling slightly with skills like mental and conversation magic.

“That's actually pretty good of an attempt, though as you get more used, you can eventually use skills without the system's help.”

“Nice?”

Warning: Host is fighting an enemy more than N/A times as strong.

Notification.

trait "sis con" is active

Stats are being increased 10 fold.

Trait "sis con" is being strained.

Warning: trait "sis con" will be temporarily deactivated in 20 seconds if strained to that extent.

Warning:user will suffer severe recoil after deactivation.

Warning, due to being a boss, stats have been increased by twice.

Hilda and Shila both look over at the cause so Hilda turns her trait off, not wanting to die from the recoil before dying to the nightmare in front of her.

“Shila… could you… check it?”

“I can try.”

Warning, user is too low level.

“That's… an actual dragon, isn't it? Not just a wyvern?”

“Yep.”

Hilda looks over at the blue scales dragon in front of her, mana being naturally sucked in at a rate that Hilda wished she had and also flowing out of its body, making Hilda think it was threatening her even if it didn't need to.

“Human, why are you here?”

“Ask the ground, it opened up.”

“It wouldn't have opened up without…”

The dragon's voice trails off, seeing Hilda hold the orb in her hands.

“How did you get that orb?” The dragon voice rumbles throughout the room, but gets actually aggressive instead of possessive over it.”

“I stole it.”

“There's not a single chance a weakling like you or that fraud of a lifeform managed to steal it.”

“Well, I did but from a random noble.”

“Which floor?”

“The 10th, obviously.” Hilda's voice is filled with sarcasm, causing the dragon to get more annoyed and Shila to cover her mouth quickly.

“The 10th, very well, I suppose you can keep it, but lose it and I'll destroy your soul.”

“Yea, yea, whatever.”

Shila covers Hilda's mouth tighter.

“This was called a trial, so where is it?”

“You're too weak, come back when you're stronger, but take this for now.”

A random blue bead, filled with a certain magic appearance in front of Hilda.”

“What do you even want me to do with this?”

“Eat.”

“No, not happening.”

The dragon breathes fire at the ceiling, causing the whole room to start turning hot, even causing Hilda to hurt a bit despite being decently far away from the fire.

“Got it.” Hilda eats the small bead, feeling nothing for a second before falling down to the ground in pain.

“That is my makeshift trial for you, do not faint or I'll kill you myself.”

Hilda glares at the dragon, feeling a constant pain all throughout her body.

After around 10 minutes, the pain stops as she struggles to her feet with Shila's help, still glaring at the dragon and flipping it off with it just huffing some smoke out in return like it did nothing wrong.

The dragon uses magic to take the orb from Hilda, lifting it in front of its face, placing a layer of Amna over it.

“What did you just do?”

“I hid its presence.”

The dragon returns the orb to Hilda, with Hilda putting it back into her inventory.

“Why?”

“Because I can't have that fraud finding out you have it.”

“Fraud? Shila?”

“Shila? Oh, not that fraud of a life form.”

“Then who?”

“You'll figure it out, do not let anybody know you have it until you grow strong enough to climb to the peak of this jail.”

“sure?”

They both get teleported back out with the wyverns now gone.

“Hilda, you're a very daring person.”

“Yea, I know.”

“Shila, why did he call you a fraud of a lifeform?”

“Because I wasn't born, my soul was made, I'm also not clearly flesh and bones.”

“Is there a difference?”

“Yes, but it doesn't affect me at all, my soul is just different.”

“Isn't everybody's soul different?”

“Well, their souls aren't made! Mine is!”

“Okay, calm down.”

“You're annoying.”

“Ok, why did he call this place a jail?”

“Don't you remember? They're all locked here.”

“Sure…”

Hilda looks at Shila, suspicious of her as she seems oddly weird after being asked that, with her suspicion shown clearly on her face, getting Shila to elaborate further.

“Well, I guess I do have suspicions about somethings, but I can't tell you, not until you're stronger and not till I'm clear.”

“Sure? Who is the fraud he meant?”

“That I also can't tell, not because I don't want to, but because I don't know, but he somehow managed to interfere with the system, letting me know that the answer is up.”

“Up?”

“Up.”

“How up?”

“79 floors up.”

“Sure… wait, did you fail maths? It's 78 floors up.”

“Just remember what I said.”

“Sure?”

“Oh, he also gave us clearance to g

o to the next floor.”

“Yes!!! But don't I need the xp?”

“He gave points.”

“Dragon guy!! You are my god!”

“Shut up and let's go back to the 10th floor first, I would really like to rest.”

“Same.”
