Mental magic is simply just a general skill for all mental magic, which is made by merging all 3 low level mental skills, taking the level of the highest skill.

I forgot to ask, but why is illusion magic mental magic?

Because all it does is make people who look in the direction of the illusion see the illusion instead of creating an illusion, making it closer to mental magic then light magic which could technically make illusions but is much harder and simply not worth it.

Okay, when you use light magic to make illusions, your body sees something that is there but isn't really, when you use mental magic to make illusions, your body sees something that isn't there, and obviously not real.

But that's not an illusion.

It's close enough, and using light magic is so hard I think even the guide can't easily make advance illusion magic with light magic despite having lived and experimented with magic for a good amount of his life, which is much longer than a normal level 0 human’s.
