War

Blaine placed his arms in an X-formation to block the incoming punch, making it land straight on the crossover point of his arms. The force was still so high that he was sent sliding back, and Vanessa was then hit with a ruthless combination of punches.

She remained behind her guard, promptly blocking or parrying any punches that came her way but it wasn’t enough.

The final punch in the form of a right hand straight was hurtling toward her face at such a speed that it was too late.

She wasn’t fast enough to properly intercept it and Gor-Kag’s knuckles harshly impacted her helmet’s visor. There was an audible crack in the glass as the punch forced her back several steps.

“Rrr! Damn boarmen!” Vanessa cursed, getting angrier by the second.

Blaine received a haymaker to his own head, but did not immediately retreat. It was never his style to retreat and with his exosuit in overdrive, he felt fearless.

Still invigorated by Cael’s mana stream, he dished out a punch of his own, following up with numerous energy blasts to the point where his energy rifle was on the verge of exploding on him.

He was willing to take that risk, though, hoping to see Gor-Kag’s demise.

However, even after the rapid explosions of his energy blasts, all he did was make the boarman take a step back.

Standing there, shocked, he couldn’t believe that Gor-Kag had just taken that long of a sequence of blasts. He could even feel the intense heat in his forearm and a single blast coming out his rifle would surely blast it to smithereens.

Gor-Kag lifted and threw his leg out in the form of a powerful side kick. Drawing all of the force from his strongly planted right leg, Blaine was knocked right onto his feet from the bone-crushing strike.

Blaine swiftly returned to his feet in an elegant roll, ready to battle on. However, Cael was starting to feel the strain of his over-exertion. It was foolish for him to have tolerated the insane power demand of his rifles.

Retracting his mana stream, Blaine suddenly looked down to his exosuit as he felt it almost power down. The intense whirring he could hear before was gone, and the fighters all weren’t in their best of states.

It wouldn’t be long before the boarmen would overpower them. Maybe they could’ve taken down Gor-Kag or Gor-Puu alone but with them working together to fight them, it was just too much for them to handle.

“Run!” Cael called out, dashing back as fast as he could.

After saying this, Vanessa dealt a final glance of rage at the two boarmen before turning. She couldn’t help but follow him and they coursed down the street just behind them. Cael’s will to escape powered his every step, and they soon found that almost every street was occupied with these boarmen.

This was nothing like the first encounter with that single boarman in Amburg.

They were everywhere!

Cael couldn’t believe that their assault would be ramped up to this level, and each street had almost become a battleground, with colonial officers fighting from one side and the boarmen battling them from the other.

The students continued and were rather directionless. None of them were expecting such an insanely large assault to begin out of nowhere.

Corpses of civilians, soldiers and even boarmen were strewn across the streets, that had been painted red and black with their blood.

BOOM!

A stray energy blast slammed right into Vanessa’s back, forcing her into the adjacent brick wall to their left.

“Are you okay?!” Cael hurriedly asked, rushing to her aid.

Vanessa grunted and shook her head, but raised back to her feet. Giving Cael a reassuring nod, she lifted off the wall but looked frozen. Immediately, lifting her hand, she pointed to a boarman that had just arrived by their side.

This one looked even larger than the ones they’d engaged with previously. This boarman stood at 7’0 tall, and looked significantly slower than the others they’d faced. Even if he was slower, that still equated to the boarman being around as fast as them.

Grabbing Blaine who was caught totally off guard, he was thrown right into the building behind them and into the first floor for that matter.

WHAM!!

The force behind the slam was enough to send him flying right through the entire wall, and the boarman leaped over Vanessa and Cael, focused on Blaine.

Seeing the opportunity to slip right into the battle, Cael and Vanessa jumped onto the first floor from behind, which seemed just like a superstore. There were several isles of goods that surrounded them, and Blaine didn’t look in the best shape.

Grunting in pain on the ground, he steeled through the pain and raised up, ready to fight.

Throwing two straight punches to the body, this mammoth boarman laughed and grabbed Blaine’s head. His massive hand covered a large portion of Blaine’s head, and he was slammed into an adjacent isle.

The immense power behind the swing caused the isle to be knocked right over, nearly knocking the isle shelf ahead of it over.

Several goods were sent flowing to the floor, and this ruthless beast let off a relentless flurry of punches.

Cael couldn’t just remain back and watch this happen. No. He had to step in and help Blaine somehow. After using his mana stream, he just didn’t know if he could let Blaine resort to that power again.

Blaine had no clue that he was the source of that power and used it recklessly as if it was just a feature of his own suit.

Looking to Vanessa, that was frozen in place from a mixture of fear and pain, he entered the battle himself.

Blaine was thrusted into another isle, with a bottle of vegetable oil falling to the floor. He attempted to take a step back but slipped right onto his bottom in the process.

In this position, it seemed like it was over for him. The ground would be too slippery for him to properly fight back himself, and all he could do was pull himself back and as far away from the threat as possible.

This slipperiness didn’t seem to affect the boarman at all with its large, flat feet.

The boarman smiled upon seeing Blaine in this position; it was checkmate for him. The boarman lifted his muscular arms and threw them down with furiosity.

Blaine then lifted his arms to try and block the impact, but Cael was ready. Wielding a massive 250-kilogram refrigerator, he utilised his powered gauntlet to throw it forward as forcefully as he could.

He was stood just before the pool of oil on the ground, and the fridge slammed right into the boarman’s head.

The insane force behind this hit from the quarter-ton device knocked it right off course. Sliding across the pool of oil on the ground, Blaine took this chance to slide forward in the puddle of oil to fall back and away from the fighter.

With the boarman down for the count, there was no need to continue fighting. Cael fell back and was looking to escape, happy to see Blaine shared his sentiment.

“Darn you humans!! Your galaxy will fall in due time!” The boarman roared as they leaped out the opening in the wall.

Landing in the streets, the group could see an approaching group of boarmen that were all above seven feet tall. There were seven of them, with the boarman at the front of this procession having numerous grey hairs in his boarish head.

“We now occupy the south-western territory of this city now, Krag-Bok.” A boarman called out.

Hearing that name, Cael immediately remembered that the names of boarmen fell under castes. The Gor prefix was held by the weakest boarmen, with Krag being a step above that. If all of the boarmen they’d seen previously were of the Gor caste, they did not want any trouble with that aged boarmen across the street.

To their left, there was an alleyway and Cael almost threw himself into it upon noticing the advancing procession.

Blaine and Vanessa soon followed him, falling further and further into the narrow, dim alley. All three warriors weren’t exerting themselves but were breathing heavily.

None of them expected their day to end up like this.

“What do we do now?” Vanessa whispered to the group.

“I’m not sure. To be hone-,”
