An explosion went off near one of the other towers, with the second landing mere metres from the students. Cael was blown back by the explosion, being sent sliding across the ground.
As for some of the weaker students, however, they were sent flying into the air. Streams of blood followed their bodies until they landed gracelessly on the ground, unmoving.
Screams erupted in this crowd, and the chaos somehow grew even more unstable.
Cael, with widened eyes of shock, looked down to his blood-covered golden exosuit.
The soldiers continued to look around with alarm, rushing to the aid of these fallen students. Floating medical devices followed them, but many of the students had already succumbed to their grave injuries.
With weaker students, their exosuits were also of a lower quality and as a result, they couldn’t stop powerful blasts of this sort. It was just too much for their bodies to take.
His body froze upon seeing the bloody corpses strewn around them. Now, surrounding the loose collection of students were soldiers fully clad in exosuits.
They wielded various weapons, such as large gauntlets and sizzling-hot blades.
After this ranged assault of explosions, they were sure some actual soldiers would reveal themselves shortly after.
“Remain back, students! Remember all the training that you’ve endured and what you know. All of that training that you’ve gone through must come into play now. Try your best or die, choose very wisely!” Sir Agramonte declared.
With his speech flooding the students with motivation, many of the students didn’t look as frightened and scared as before. Blaine slammed his chest with his fist, whirring up his energy rifles in anticipation of the upcoming assault.
Vanessa roared whilst revealing two super-heated daggers, looking around her with hawk-like eyes of pure bloodlust.
Cael could see that she was dictated by nothing but rage. Most of these students were angry and used this anger to fuel them, but Vanessa looked different. It only made him wonder just what the boarmen had done to make her feel this way.
Nevertheless, his mind was soon thrown off these musings as heavy thud-like footsteps approached. The soldiers and higher-level students with keen enough hearing picked this up.
Many of them entered proper battle stances and looked in the direction of this sound, which was from behind one of the main towers that remained standing.
Patience.
Every student waited with trepidation and patience to see what was going to come of these mysterious noises.
“GRRAAAHH!!” A boarman shouted, revealing himself from behind this tower.
KRASH!
Another boarman threw himself right through the glass of the ground floor of this building. Numerous more boarmen revealed themselves, making their presence known.
They covered this group of students and soldiers from several angles, making them forced to split their resources.
These boarmen charged straight at this group of warriors, with many rashly bearing the brunt of energy blasts of various colours.
Many blasts didn’t meet any targets, and many boarmen managed to make it past this initial wave of energy blasts to clash with several soldiers and students.
After numerous boarmen slammed into the periphery of this group, one of them managed to puncture the main outer areas to slam right into Cael.
Swiftly activating power surge to try and add some resistance, he was still overpowered. It usually felt like his legs would be planted in this state; unmovable. However, his body was thrown right back with ease.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
What could he really do to face a boarman of this calibre? Activating his powered gauntlet, it whirred into action before he thrusted his fist forward.
His attack was close to meeting the target; it seemed like being smaller granted him the ability of great speed and agility compared to his foe.
Nevertheless, his punch did very little to hurt the sturdy, genetically engineered flesh of the boarman.
Even the Gor- castes had gone through extensive genetic modification and engineering to reach the level they were at now.
Receiving a straight punch to his face from almost out of no where, he already felt dazzled. Stumbling back a step, he struggled to comprehend just how powerful this fighter was. Was the gap between the human and the boarman always this pronounced?
Deciding to aim slightly lower, his fist whipped through the air only to land in his adversary's palm.
“Your puny galaxy will fall in due time! Is this all the resistance you can provide?” The alien asked, revealing his teeth in the form of a savage grin.
This fighter managed to deflect two more of his attacks but there was hope. Feinting with a jab, he delivered a powerful blow in the form of a right hand, before landing a sweeping kick to the beast’s abdomen.
Before this alien could retaliate, he managed to land a swift elbow to his chin.
Cael could tell that these hits had at least done something. There was no smile of indifference or arrogance on the boarish face of this alien.
Feeling more confident than before, he threw a powerful step-in jab to try and startle his adversary. However, his gauntlet landed on nothing but its burly forearms. With a whipping, explosive hook to the jaw, Cael was thrown right off course.
Subsequently, a whipping uppercut landed right on his chin, which made him lose strength in his legs. He stumbled to one hand, retreating as to not get clobbered with even more hits. As he stand up and prepare for any upcoming assault, he soon found that his legs weren’t following his command. They resembled jelly.
His legs were already buckling as another punch was heading toward his face. Without a strong foundation, he could do little to block or intercept it.
Bracing for impact, he soon heard the screaming of somebody from behind him. This scream intensified and drew closer to him. It was Blaine.
PEW! PEW!
Two green energy blasts slammed right into the beast, giving Cael just the time that he needed to raise and recuperate.
He still felt unsteady but all he needed was a brief time off to recollect himself.
“Where’s the will in you?! I’m not here to save you, Breckenridge!” Blaine called out, still focusing on their opponent.
Cael felt simultaneously flustered and motivated by Blaine’s words. This was one of the first times he had directly mentioned him and even called out his name, but there was no time for gratitude or unnecessary thoughts. They were in battle.
Surrounding them, the group of fighters were now much less dense and occupied in their own battles. Several unmoving bodies of students surrounded them, with boarmen looking similar ways.
The soldiers had nearly maximised their mana reserves and possessed amazing technique. This allowed them to slowly defeat the more savage, brutish boarmen.
Their adversary snorted upon advancing, and both launched into action. Using their perks and fighting with high intensity, they could tell they were giving themselves a good shot.
Both possessed powerful striking, and had great technique when it came to that. They were able to find ways to evade incoming attacks, whilst delivering strong ones themselves.
Blaine assailed the beast with two straight energy blasts to the chest, revealing the black blood flowing behind it.
The alien’s thin battle suit had also wore down considerably. This was their shot. With Blaine slightly crouched down to deliver these energy blasts, Cael leaped up onto his shoulders before jumping off as powerfully as he could.
Flipping in the air, he came diving down with a punch that managed to drop the boarman to his hands and knees.
Cael and Blaine stood triumphantly over their fallen adversary, with Blaine shooting numerous energy blasts straight to its open head. With such destructive blasts aimed right at the cranium, black blood splatted across the gravel-coloured flooring.
The boarman was no more; they had claimed victory.
After several more fights, the humans were gaining the edge. With so many of the boarmen dead, they started to retreat before they lost more men.
Being greatly outnumbered, they saw no use in continuing. Their energy blasts were the key factor in their success here. Boarmen didn’t have such technology in their galaxy and didn’t have any measures against it except for their incredibly tough bodies.
Sir Agramonte drove a large super-heated sword through the head of a Krag- caste Boarman, crushing it completely. Looking back up to what remained of the students, he dropped his visor.
He gave concerned looks to his fallen students and brethren before firming his glance. Emmeline, the redhead prodigy, managed to slice the head of a Gor- caste boarman right off with a super-heated dagger that she had scavenged from the ground.
The students that remained here were all the above average students. As for the weaker ones, they were either dead or gravely injured, soon to succumb to their injuries. A fleet of healing drones covered the bloodied grounds, using nanobots to try and heal the students.
“Students, drop your helmets. The nanobots here will try their best to heal you of your wounds. Not many remain ready for use.” Sir Agramonte announced, resting on his large sword.
