Chapter 62: Conflict
Subsequent attempts ended in better results, and for an additional hour, Fang stayed inside. Another hour then passed by with the door opening shortly after. Inside, the dummy had fallen nearly into pieces!
The next several days, Fang had attended his classes briefly before heading towards the practice area. Although it wasn’t too difficult to successful imbue his basic attacks with this new source of energy, the more complicated techniques required quite a lot of hours to even start to infuse.
With repeated use, the dense energy had dried up, only to rapidly fill up a couple of moments later. He soon realized that there wasn’t a downside to fuse all his attacks with it, so with more effort, he immersed himself in beating dummies.
Occupied with thoughts of practice, the week flew by swiftly, and it was already the day before the visit back into the city.
Smiling, he wondered how impressed Valeria would be upon seeing this new ability.
Shortly after finishing his last class, Fang happily left through the gates towards the magic academy.
---
Upon arriving in front of the academy though, the atmosphere seemed to turn extremely sour.
“Is that Fang?”
“Are you sure that it was him that Scarlett took an interest to? He looks so ordinary!”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought too, but it’s just not Scarlett. I’ve heard that he’s Mii’s boyfriend!”
“What? Why would those beauties like him? Even I look better than him…”
Hearing those slightly indistinct voices, Fang exhaled deeply.
Every week, he would come to the academy to meet up with Mii before heading towards the city, so it wasn’t too unexpected that some people recognized him. As well, the occurrence last week had done wonders for his infamy.
The magicians that attended the institute naturally thought themselves superior to the martial institutes, so the notion that the beauty of the city would actually like Fang was difficult to accept.
Scarlett really knows how to bring about trouble!
Within the crowd, a man bitterly looked at the figure near the gates. He absolutely despised how humiliated he felt when Scarlett ignored him and headed solely for Fang.
A girl waved at Fang. Ever since the party, the thoughts that Tracy harbored against Fang had upturned completely. Status was everything, after all, and if she could be close to someone this prominent, it’d boost her reputation immensely.
Warmly smiling, she greeted Fang. “How was your week?”
“Good, and yours?” Although the surrounding words had dampened his mood slightly, he was used to it and returned the customary greeting.
“Good as well.”
Appearing close to Fang, she had received multiple invitations in the past week by the noticeable men of the city, inquiring over tea as to the exact situation between Scarlett and Fang. She didn’t know much, yet, the feeling of importance she felt was quite intoxicating. Actually, she wanted to ask further about the relationship, but seeing how impatient Mii seemed to be, she lightly stepped away.

Taking Mii’s hand, Fang started to walk away, slowly speeding up as he wanted to escape the floating rumors hurriedly.
Before he could leave through the entrance, a blue garbed student intercepted him from the front.
“Are you Fang?”
His eyes showed extreme hatred, but Fang nodded regardless, “I am indeed Fang, you are…?”
“Die!”
Instantly, the surroundings started to buzz alight in energy as he stared maliciously at Fang.
Without hesitation, Fang shoved Mii to the side and brought up a hasty wall of energy.
Boom!
Fang slid backwards a couple of meters, dust furiously rising up in a dense cloud.
Mii yelled, “What are you doing?!”
This male student was known as reaching the top of the 1st year class rankings, and Tracy instantly recognized him – Mart was one of the people that sought a meeting with her to inquire about Scarlett.
It was clear that he was hopelessly infatuated with Scarlett from their conversation; though he knew that he had probably couldn’t obtain Scarlett, there was no reason that she could belong to anyone else!
“Fang, who do you think you are to be so close to Scarlett!”
Gradually backing up, he stopped the panicked Mii who seemed to have started casting. “You’ve made a mistake, I don’t have any relationship with Scarlett.”
“Do you really think I’d believe that? Let’s see if you are even worthy of having spoken with her!” Lividly, he faced Fang as rocks started to float and compact around him. Without further warning, the encased figure wildly charged at Fang.
Getting hit by a mass of rock heading at such a high speed would definitely result in broken bones or worse, and most would be filled anxiety.
Instead of being frightened at all, Fang looked completely tranquil. He felt this amount of power before; it was similar to the pressure that William gave off. By now, with his current level of progress, he felt he could easily defeat him if he used his strongest moves.
However, he didn’t plan to use any powerful techniques, as it felt like such a trivial matter. As well, if he resolved this with serious injuries on the receiving party, there was bound to be questions from the academy’s teachers, not including the tedious investigation of the source and causes of the fight.
More importantly, Valeria would usually wait for him and Mii to arrive before presenting dinner – he definitely couldn’t make her wait.
Though he had recently became a 5th grade intermediate, he hadn’t learned any new techniques. Yet, there was something instead that he could try; the condensed energy in his body!
