Chapter 50: Unexpected Meeting
Fang hadn’t reached this level of control over the skill until recently, but he knew that if he used it at the start, William would definitely dodge and come out to an advantage. So, the only option where he would be able to pull it off was when William was off guard, and seize victory at that moment. It seemed throughout the match that Fang was overwhelming outclassed, but it was only a means to conserve his energy and let William underestimate him.
Once more, Richard stepped slowly forwards – according to the traditions, he would announce the result of the fight.
“Student Fang, congratulations on winning this match. With this, you’ll receive the scholarship by the chamber of commerce, and also gain some rare medicine for the following year to help improve your abilities.” The strain in his forced smile couldn’t have been more apparent; his son had personally lost against this person that was definitely that family’s. Moreover, the intense pride that he carried had been wounded, there was no room for anything in his gloomy mind. Hastily, he left the field.
Tiredly, Fang walked from the field and was instantly enveloped by a cacophony of shouts and hugs.
“Class prefect, even William wasn’t your match!”
“That technique, what was it? It was simply too strong and cool, definitely teach it to me!”
“There’s no way you could learn something like that you idiot, no one as ordinary as you could use it. You’d have be a genius just like Fang!”
The joy engulfed the entire class, as the honor of winning such a match was incredibly important to them.
However, Fang discovered quickly that the first person he expected to praise him was far off to the side, pursing their lips.
Anger plainly showed on his roommate’s face, there wasn’t anything good in store for him.
He quickly weaved through the crowd and hesitatively approached their side. Lightly, he asked a question he even knew the answer to.
“Blue, what’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong?” Blue coughed angrily. “You know what!”
“I know I didn’t show you that I’ve managed to use Meteor Shower, and not discussing that was completely my fault.” Fang paused faintly. “But I only managed to use it successfully a couple of times, and wasn’t assured I could use it confidently in actual combat, so I didn’t tell you and get your hopes up when I would’ve lost without it.”
This wasn’t the complete truth, though. Judging from his observations, Blue was admittedly quite strange, and he didn’t know if his roommate knew how to keep a secret. If the information had leaked to William somehow, there was no faith in a victory – it was his only option to keep it to himself at the college.
However, there was no hiding the truth from Blue. “You know it’s just an excuse, you didn’t want me know; see if I care about you anymore!”
“Blue, how about to make things up, we go into the city this weekend and visit any of the food stalls there? I’ll be treating everything!”
“Go alone!”
---
In the crowd, under a veiled hood, a mouth curled up in a wicked smile. She knew that Fang had this skill for this match, after all, he showed her directly the weekend before the fight. With this, she admittedly kept a silent laugh inside as she watched the match.
Did you really expect to cripple Fang in this match, Richard? Look at what happened from your planning this time, instead of Fang, your own precious son ended up being harmed. Isn’t the taste very bitter?
Well, I hope you enjoy it, because it's only the start of the suffering!
---
The weekend came by once again, and as usual, Fang met with Mii at the academy. On seeing him, the young beauty impatiently asked, “Fang, what was the result of that match?”
This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
A faint smile showed on his face. “What do you think?”
His expression showed the outcome, but Mii continued regardless. “Did you win?”
Fang nodded. “It was close though, my match was against the prefect of class two – he was quite powerful.”
Surprised filled her cheeks as Mii cried out in alarm. “Class two? Isn’t that one of the top classes? You won against them, Fang, you’re really strong!”
Seeing her eyes light up, Fang felt happy inside. Six months ago, he had been an incompetent burden on Mii, and even with his relentless practicing, he was nobody. Yet now, he was at the top of his class, defeating one of the strongest classes at his age and gaining the support of the chamber of commerce.
Compared to Mii’s excitement, Valeria was relatively tranquil, and instead of inquiring into the match, she didn’t mention the matter at all.
Dinner arrived onto the table with delicious dishes scattered around. As they took their seats, Fang stayed indifferent as well, but Mii quickly asked the question on his mind. “Valeria, don’t you want to know the results of Fang’s competition?”
Although Mii didn’t exactly know the conditions between Fang’s and Valeria’s relationship, she perceptively noticed that Valeria lavished her attention on Fang. There was no way that Valeria wasn’t interested in the results, hence, she couldn’t help but ask.
Valeria smiled. “Certainly, but unfortunately, I already knew what the results were.”
Puzzled, Fang looked at Valeria. “Valeria, how do you know?”
“I heard it from somewhere.” Her answer was very simple, and she hadn’t told Fang in advance that she would be at the college, watching.
Fang didn’t think deeply about it, after all, she had probably gotten the information from one of her connections.
At this time, her secretary arrived with a bottle of red wine that Valeria had prepared previously. Inside, Valeria was ecstatic over this victory, but she didn’t reveal any sentiment as usual. A mysterious smile was all that was present. “Fang, in celebration of this match, have a cup. And you too, Mii, this century aged wine isn’t too strong, and should be quite a feast for your senses.”
Wine slowly trickled into each cup, and with a fragrant, mellow taste, happiness accompanied the lively chatter around the cozy table.
However, as if she had just remembered, Valeria faced Fang. “Ah, don’t head over to the practice room right away. There’s a guest, someone that you know to see you.”
“Someone I know?” Fang wondered, as in Minuet City, he didn’t know anyone too well other than his roommate, Mii, and Valeria.
“No need to be anxious, you’ll know soon enough. If there wasn’t any delays, they should be here soon.” Fang still didn’t know who it was, and despite the questions, Valeria didn’t reveal much other than a single piece. “She’s quite special, and busy. I’ve invited her on multiple occasions, but until today, she couldn’t make it.”
Interested, Fang followed Valeria into the living room, yet he couldn’t think of who it was. Someone with a special status?
Less than ten minutes past when the front door opened, and rising up, Valeria moved to greet the person immediately.
A slim figure, filled with grace entered the hall. Confidence seeped out from the tall beauty, with a straight, black elegant coat covering her body. Her face showed a vague smile, and although it seemed friendly at first, the atmosphere around her felt suffocating the longer he looked.
Of all people, he never expected to see her.
It was the judge presiding over the examination he took over Vincent – Valeria was correct, but he barely knew her.
What was the relationship between her and Valeria?
