Chapter 49: Crash

Chapter 49: Crash

He looked at the side of the arena, and seeing a nod, William grinned savagely. From now on, no blame would go onto him, in fact, all the blame and responsibility would be taken by his father.

A single move – he was confident that it would be all that it would take.

Suddenly, William stopped retreating. Golden light burst out in a frenzy, and a large crescent blade formed in front of him. Although he was angry, he hadn’t lost his reason; quickly, he sent the huge mass straight towards Fang’s throat. The amount of pressure emitting from the glowing energy was insane, and without a doubt, it was dangerously lethal.

This was a difficult situation for Fang, as not only did he have to worry about the looming sword, he had to look out for William as well. In that short delay between his skills, he’d get attacked. Until now, Fang was able to react perfectly against William, but there was no such option now. Even if he did try to resist, his level of energy would be too low compared to William’s.

The crowd grew silent. No one expected William to have a trump card like this.

Blue’s face turned pale, she didn’t think that William would be able to form and direct a technique playing to the strengths of his energy. With the sharpness that the energy gleamed, if Fang couldn’t pull off something to counter this, all that would be left of him would be a bloody mess!

Instead of trying to escape with Shadow Step, Fang stopped in place.

Closer and closer, the sword ominously flew forwards.

William smirked. It seemed Fang was desperately trying to counter the attack, but he knew that it would certainly break through anything Fang would have.

“Fool, you should’ve moved…” Blue’s voice trailed off, and her eyes grew wide.

All the energy surrounded Fang vanished!

Was it possible that he ran out of energy?

Slowly, Fang lifted up his hands, and energy started to flicker again, except, the light was dazzling.

The crowd held their breaths as they watched Fang concentrate, but even if he had a higher level technique to use, it couldn’t possibly compare with William’s secret skill.

A single ball of energy appeared behind Fang.

To use a simple energy ball at this level for the deciding moment of the fight was undoubtedly going to result in his defeat. However, despite all that, it flew towards William.

Ping!

Without any hesitation, the sword cut through the energy easily.

Nothing happened as the golden light relentlessly accelerated.

Another ball of energy popped up behind Fang however, and then another, and another…

In moments, the atmosphere around Fang was filled with circles of light.

His hands waved down.

Valiantly, the sword cut through the second, third, fourth, fifth, glowing duller and duller.

When the sixth hit, the sword no longer possessed its former momentum. Yet, it didn’t end.

Seventh, eighth, the energy rushed out continuously. Although each individual sphere was weak, there were countless amounts pounding at the sword. Each time the dense light exploded on the gold, the sword grew dim.

Wide eyes tracked the show of lights, like stars streaking down from the sky – this clearly wasn’t a simple salvo of energy balls, it all happened too fast.

But in spite of all the bursts, the golden sword still remained solid. Looking at the scene, William’s skill had weakened greatly, however, on the other side, Fang had stopped his barrage.

Visibly, Fang seemed to have run out of energy.

Noticing this, William’s grim expression lifted as he realized it would only take a single blow to take out Fang. His face contorted in slight pain, but William motioned the sword forwards, and slowly yet assuredly, the golden light charged towards Fang.

Alarmed voices with a tone of desperation cried out in alarm. Fang appeared calm though, and unfazed, he concentrated once more. Contrasting the specks of light rushing out earlier, heavy pressure fell upon the surroundings as energy from the remnants of the previous explosions spiraled towards Fang.

Rapidly, energy collided fiercely into an indiscernibly, horrifying mass of light above him, and then, in freefall, the large meteor shook the air as it crashed down, ripping through the golden light.

Fear filled William’s eyes as he looked in panic at the destructive power heading his way.

However, there was nothing he could do.

Boom!

An ear shattering sound vibrated throughout the arena as the impact threw William down, bouncing him on the ground over half of the arena. Skidding on the ground, he came to an eventual stop, twitching.

Immediately, the referee on the side leapt in between Fang and William, keeping both sides away.

“Ten, nine, eight, seven…”

It seemed like the declaration of victory and defeat was happening according to the rules, but in fact, the referee was hindering Fang, counting down ever so gradually.

If it was Fang on the ground, the referee would’ve definitely called out the match instantly.

“Six, five…”

Although the countdown descended, there was no response from William.

He couldn’t speak, he couldn’t move.

He tried to struggle back up, and specks of broken energy faded from his body.

A weak arm rose up and a cheer came from class two, only to come to a silence as it crumpled.

Blood spurted out from his mouth and pooled on the ground. The results were obvious by now, and there was immediate need for emergency treatment.

Reluctantly, the referee declared the results.

“Winner, Fang!”

Astonishing, the fight had come to a conclusion like this. The audience broke out of their stupor; resoundingly loud applause burst out around the field.

Before this fight had even begun, the majority of Fang’s class expected that he would show off his comparable skills and preserve their pride, but no one expected that he would overthrow the superior class in such an upset.

“He won, our class won!”

“Ha, from now on, there’s no doubt that no class would dare to look down upon us!”

“Everyone was wrong, the lowest class isn’t certainly weaker than the others. We were sorted into this class because we just had a slow start!”

Other people discussed the final move Fang had used, as obscure as it was.

“That final technique, what was that? The might was so domineering.”

“Yeah, it broke through the highest tier skill infused with element that William used, it should’ve theoretically been impossible for that to happen.”

“Well, it seemed that technique was actually higher than any skill usable by an intermediate.”

“What do you… could it be?”

“Right, it’s possible that he could’ve used that skill, but even then that would’ve been the 4th grade…”

“…”

Like wildfire, the rumor spread out through the crowd. No one really believed it, but it was the only thing conceivable.

As to what they were thinking, it was completely correct: Meteor.

It wasn’t the highest stage, but in the immersed studies he took, the technique derived from the method was more than enough – Meteor Shower!

Noticeably, it would sacrifice all the energy that a user had to load up a barrage of small meteors of energy, and from the residue of the attacks, would require great control to condense and gather it all into a final, destructive attack. Nothing at the same level would be able to stand against it, and the oppressive power it showed clearly displayed that.

Months of effort had all worked out to the mastery of this incredibly tyrannical technique!
