"Shouldn't I have more skills than that?" Robert asked, puzzled
The system only assigns skills based on your existing knowledge and abilities. While you may have read a book on geology, you haven't actively studied it. Also, the system limits skills with a low initial ranking.
"Alright, I understand. How do I select more skills? I have points, but how do I use them?"
Just think about using them, and the skill selection menu will appear. Before that, there's one more system page to check out. Open the system map.
A simple, almost blank map appeared on the screen.
"Not much to see there," Robert commented.
FEAT EARNED: System Leader
"What was that about?" Robert asked, intrigued.
You earned a feat for being the first user to fully explore the system interface. As the first and only user, you'll be earning a lot of these first-time bonuses.
"Oh, that's a good one. +15% to all experience earned, nice!"
Most feats have positive effects, but there are a few negative ones out there. Now, let's get started. As a System AI, I have limited authority to issue quests, so we'll have to improvise.

"Wow, that was a lot of levels! What am I looking at here?" Robert asked, his eyes scanning the screen.
Well, 'Name' is self-explanatory. 'Type' refers to the quest's rarity. Hidden quests aren't visible to most users, but you completed them. The (f) next to the rewards indicates that you were the first to complete them. You can add notes to each quest for reference. I've added some notes to give you an idea of how normal rewards might look. You'll see a new tab called 'Completed Quests' now. I'll add some more quests for you later.

"Okay, so I'm guessing before all of that I really need to start my build. So what type of skills should I go after?"
Alright, so before we dive into skills, we need to focus on your build. What kind of character do you envision yourself as? A sword-wielding warrior, a spell-casting mage, or maybe a support healer?
"If we're going with the RPG theme, I'd probably lean towards a spellcaster," Robert replied.
A magic user, huh? That's a good choice. Though it's always wise to have a backup plan, like a basic weapon skill for self-defense. You already have First Aid, which will be helpful for minor injuries. Now, let's talk perks. You earned a legendary perk that'll significantly boost your skill progression. I recommend taking 'Legendary Skills,' which will start all new skills at tier 3. For your uncommon perks, I suggest 'High Skills,' which will give each skill a 5-level head start. With both of those, your skills will start at tier 3, level 5. Take your time and browse through the lists. There are millions of skills to choose from.
"Alright, I think I have an idea. For common perks, I'll take 'Skilled' and 'Enhanced Senses.' For uncommon, I'll go with 'Rare Stats' and 'Lesser Regeneration.' I know I already have regeneration, but I assume I'll need it to unlock higher-tier versions later."
You're right. As a reward, I can give you a free rare perk point. You can use it now.
"Thanks. If I take 'Rare Skills,' will that mean my skills start at tier 4.5?"
Correct. One thing to note about those skill perks is that they're unique. You'll be the only one who can take them, at least beyond the uncommon tier. Another perk of being first. Also, don't expect any more free points. That was a one-time bonus.
"Okay selected, let's take a look at my Perk menu."
Perk Rank Perk Name Perk Description Common Fast Learner (Learns skills 3% faster) Common Enhanced Senses (All Senses are 5% greater) Common Skilled (Given +1 skill points) Uncommon Rare Stats (All stats +1) Uncommon High Skills (All skills start at level 5, +1 Unlocked Skill Points) Uncommon Lesser Regeneration (Heals all wounds twice as fast as normal) Rare Rare Skills(U) (All skills start +1 Ranks, +3 skill points) Legendary Legendary Skills(U) (All skills start +2 Ranks, +2 skill points, +2 unlocked skill points)
"What are unlocked skill points?" Robert asked, curious.
Some skills have specific requirements, and others, like magic, are limited to certain races and tiers. For instance, only a small percentage of Tier G Humans can unlock a magic skill, and even fewer can unlock multiple. Unlocking magic is resource-intensive, and the system isn't generous with those resources. So, let's start with magic. What kind of spells do you envision yourself casting? Fire, earth, water, air? There are 31 magic spheres in total, so take your time.
"Let's go with the basics: earth, fire, water, and air," Robert decided.
Alright, let's unlock those. As the first user, you don't have the same limitations as others. Are there any other magic schools you'd like to explore? Perhaps Time, Creation, Healing, Light, or Enchantment?
"Sure, why not? Let's add those. So, nine magic skills in total? Can I do that?"
Absolutely. You have enough points to spare. Let's get those set up. Now, you've got some weapon skills covered, so we're good there. Perhaps we should look into some crafting skills, like Leatherworking, Enchanting, Sewing, and Hunting. That'll help you maintain your gear and earn some extra income in your new world.
"That sounds good. Let's go with those. I'll save the remaining points for later."
Solid selections, and done. Okay, let's take a look again at the skills menu.

A few things to note: Your perks won't affect skills you already had. Also, you'll see two unique magic skills. That doesn't mean you're the only one who can unlock them, but no one else can raise them beyond Tier 8. Good choices. You'll notice subskills within Enchanting. These unlock at tiers 2, 3, and 4, and your perks will affect their progression as well. I think that's enough skills for now. Remember, even though you have the skills, you don't know any spells yet. Let's fix that.
AI Override requested, magic spell books requested, First User protocol........Override approved, spell book awarded.
Tier 1 magic skill book created, contains all known T1 spells for unlocked magic skills.
Robert's eyes widened as he saw the enormous book materialize in his hand. "Wow, that is a hefty tome," he exclaimed. "There must be thousands of spells in here!"
You're not wrong. Those are just the Tier 1 spells, the tier with the largest selection. It would take years to master them all. But worry not, once you master a spell, it gets recorded in your system's spellbook, and you'll never need to study it again..
"That's good to know," Robert replied, flipping through the pages. His brow furrowed. "But what about the other skills I picked? Hunting, Enchanting, and the like?"
AI Override requested, skill books requested, First User protocol........Override approved, skill books awarded.
Tier 1 skill books created, Intro to Hunting, Intro to Enchanting, Intro to Sewing, Intro to Leatherworking placed into inventory.
"Skill books?" Robert raised an eyebrow.
The difference between the spellbook and these skill books lies in their usage, the spellbook requires dedicated study, while skill books impart knowledge directly into your mind. The sheer volume of information in the spellbook wouldn't have worked as a skill book at your current level.
"Interesting," Robert mused, settling into a chair. "So, I just use these skill books, and suddenly I'll know how to hunt, enchant, and sew?"
Precisely, but be warned, a temporary headache might be a side effect. Best to sit down first.
