I've got half of book one written, just touching up and scheduling each chapter. The main reason for the delay between chapters is to allow for feedback. I was asked about chapter size, and the answer is there isn't one. I try to keep them above 1000 words, but some will be a lot longer, though to be honest those chapters are not good judges of size because they tend to be the ones that hold a lot of charts and screens. So of dialog expect around 1000 or so words per chapter. I know that most writers tell you to aim for 1500+ words per chapter but that's just not me.
