The Singularity: Z-01
chapter 3: Bond and lies.

chapter 3: Bond and lies.

Z-01 knocked on the door to the twin's room. He heard a soft voice inviting him in. He opened the door and entered.

He saw two children sitting on a bed, holding hands. They looked at him with curiosity and wariness.

They were both around eight years old, with pale skin and dark hair. Ember was a girl with bright green eyes and a timid expression. Aster was a boy with deep blue eyes and a cautious demeanor. They wore matching hospital gowns and bandages on their arms.

Z-01 felt a surge of emotion as he looked at them. He recognized them as the twins he had kidnapped from their home after killing their parents. He remembered how they had slept peacefully on their beds, clutching their stuffed animals, unaware of the horror that awaited them.

He felt a pang of guilt and regret, but he quickly suppressed it. He had a mission to complete.

He smiled warmly at them and introduced himself.

“Hello. My name is Vex Zol. I’m here to see you.”

He walked closer to them and sat on a chair next to their bed. He noticed their grip on each other tightened slightly.

He spoke softly and gently.

“I know you must be scared and confused right now. You’ve been through a lot, and you don’t know what’s going to happen next. But I want you to know that you’re not alone. You have people who care about you and want to help you.”

He pointed towards their bandages.

“These are from the blood tests they did on you, right? They found out that you’re different from regular humans. You have something special in your blood that gives you amazing abilities.”

He lifted his sleeve and showed them his own bandage.

“I have it too. See? I’m different too. Just like you.”

“You know what?” he said, looking at them with a warm smile. “I like you guys. You’re different from the others. You’re curious, kind, and brave. I want to tell you more about myself.” He took a deep breath, and began his story. “I’m a dragon hybrid, a result of some crazy experiment. I work for the government, doing things that most people can’t even imagine. I have abilities that make me unique, and dangerous. I’ve been on missions that took me to places you wouldn’t believe.”

He did not tell them that he had killed their parents.

“But enough about me,” he said, after finishing his tale. “I want to know more about you. What are your names, how old are you, what do you like to do for fun? What makes you happy, what makes you sad, what do you dream of?"

“We’re twins,” the girl said, holding her brother’s hand. “My name is Ember, and this is Aster. We’re eight years old, and we love animals. We like to make up stories and act them out.” "We dream of bullies,” Aster said, clutching his sister’s hand tighter. “We don’t want them to find us.”

At nine years old, he was only slightly older than them. He felt a kinship with them, a rare glimpse of camaraderie. He wished to remain and enjoy, to indulge in more amusement. But he knew he couldn’t. He knew he had a mission to do. He knew he had to leave shortly.

Ember and Aster eyed Z-01 with wariness. They were unsure if he was reliable or not. They pondered if Z-01 had any ulterior motives for befriending them. They resolved to test him out and see how he would act.

“What are your abilities?” Ember asked, her voice timid.

Z-01 smiled and answered.

“I can transform into a dragon.”

He saw their eyes widen in disbelief.

“A dragon?” Aster repeated, his voice cautious but intrigued.

“Yes, a dragon,” Z-01 confirmed. “Do you want to see?”

He reached for his glasses and took them off, revealing his red eyes. He concentrated and activated his transformation ability. He felt his body change, growing scales, wings, claws, and horns. He shrank in size, becoming a small dragon that fit on the bed.

He looked at Ember and Aster and saw their expressions change from fear to wonder. He heard their thoughts.

He’s so cool!

He’s so cute!

He’s a dragon!

He smiled and spoke telepathically.

“Do you like it?”

He felt their emotions.

They liked it.

He felt a warmth in his chest.

Z-01 stayed in his dragon form and played with Ember and Aster. He let them touch his scales, wings, and his horns. He made them laugh with his antics.

He felt their happiness.

He forgot about his mission he had to go do involving Saiya Lairein.

But then General Smith came to visit. She was a tall woman with blond hair and blue eyes. She wore a military uniform and carried a briefcase.

She greeted them with a smile and introduced herself.

“Hello, Ember and Aster. My name is Jennifer Smith. I’m here to adopt you.”

She leaned forward and lowered her voice. “Listen, I’m not just a regular person. I work for the government, in a special division. We deal with things that most people don’t even know exist. Things like eldritch beings that are aliens. They are dangerous and unpredictable, and we have to stop them before they harm anyone.” She looked at them with a serious expression.

She sat down next to them and smiled gently. “I have something important to tell you. You see, the doctors did some blood tests on you. And they found out that you are not like regular humans. You have some ghoul DNA in your blood.” She saw their confused faces and continued. “Don’t worry, it’s not a bad thing. It just means that you have some special abilities and needs. Like your diet, for example. You can’t eat normal food, right? You need something else to survive.” She nodded and reached for their hands. “I know, it’s hard to accept. But you are not alone. I’m here to help you. I can provide a safe place for you to live and grow. A place where you can be yourself and not be afraid.” She paused and looked at them with sincerity. “And you have a choice. You can either come with me, and I’ll adopt you as my children. Or you can stay in a secret facility, where you’ll be protected and taken care of. Either way, you’ll be safe.”

She smiled and said, “You don’t have to make up your mind right away. You have a friend who can help you figure things out. He knows what it’s like to be different from regular humans.” She gestured to the small dragon that was cuddled in Ember and Aster’s arms. Ember and Aster looked at Z-01 with a lot of mixed feelings. They wondered why he was friendly, and if they could keep him.
