I awake and after sleeping through the night I feel much better about my choice. I had picked Frost Shard as my new skill and had put my fifteen stat points into wisdom so that I’d be able to regenerate mana twice as fast as before. Now it was time to practice my new skill. It still was weird to me that after selecting Frost Shard I instinctively knew how to use it. The system is odd in that way.
I walked out of the mansion into the courtyard and called over Vaeda. I told him of my plans to spend the day practicing my new skill. I walked about 15 feet away from the mansion and decided I’d try to shoot my skill at the gargoyles on top of the building. I asked Vaeda where the skill would come from and he said it should spawn out of my hand so I held out my hand palm pointed at the gargoyle and said Frost Shard. I felt the pull of mana from my core and I watched as an icicle quickly formed in front of my hand and then immediately fired. It shot forward like an arrow out of a crossbow smashing into a gargoyle’s body. It pierced into the stone about halfway and I saw ice start to slowly creep over the rest of the gargoyle chilling it.
“Wow that was fucking cool”
“Yeah it was Greg nice shot by the way,” Vaeda said.
“Thanks, Vaeda I feel like a real mage now”
I continued practicing with the gargoyles and found I could hit a human-sized target from about 100 feet away nine times out of ten. With my mana being regenerated at 30 per hour I could practice quite frequently. I spent the next couple days practicing my Frost shard until I felt confident enough in using it in a battle. I used Frost Shard to freeze another Draugr and added him to my minions. I practiced using my spells while my minions attacked other undead. I didn’t gain any levels but I managed to level up Frost Shard to beginner 3 and Cloak Of Shadows to beginner 9. After that, I called over Vaeda.
“What’s up Greg?” He asked.
“I think I’m ready to take on the next mini-boss. With big guy and the two knights I’m confident of smashing our way through any opposition we run into.”
“Alright, then lets head out. I’ll go find the next mausoleum and we can head over there immediately.”
Vaeda took off into the sky and I activated Eye in the Sky after first closing my eyes. I’ll never get over how cool flying looks. I hope one day I’ll be able to learn how to fly with magic because who doesn’t want that. Vaeda started circling around the next mausoleum which looked to be about two miles away, better start walking.
“Alright, minions let’s transform and roll out” I yelled at the goon squad.
After walking for about an hour we caught up with Vaeda and I asked him to report.
“Well, there’s only two Draugr Knights guarding the entrance and no other enemies in sight. Honestly, this should be an easy clean up for the goons.”
We started to head towards the two knights and I cast Cloak Of Shadows on myself hiding behind my minions so I couldn’t be seen. We advanced slowly and then the tow knights looked up at us. I cast a Frost Shard at the knight on the left hitting it right in the chest but unfortunately, the freeze didn’t activate. The Draugr then charged at my minions with their swords held high. My knights ran to engage and got into an intense sword battle. Seeing as they were all the same level they were evenly matched, that is until I ordered the big guy to engage. He barrels forward crashing into one of them knocking it to the ground. He then cleaves its skull in half using his ax. That frees up my other two minions skewer the other Draugr through its sides.

I had big guy open the door so any nasty surprises would just hit him instead. He opened the door and I noticed the inside was vastly different than the other mausoleum. For one it was empty, no boxes or undead anywhere and it was just a long hallway leading to another room. I formed up our ranks with Vaeda perched on my shoulder the two Draugrs to my right and left and the big guy up front ready to tank any damage that may come our way. We finally came upon the room and inside it was a giant ornate throne and sitting upon it was the largest undead I’d seen to date. It was some type of zombie knight, like the Draugrs but significantly bigger. This thing was at least eleven feet tall and 5 feet wide. It was decked out in armor in pristine condition and there were grey wisps of energy coming off it all over. This undead was different I could feel that in my bones, no pun intended.
It stood up from its throne and the grey wisps surrounding it started coalescing into a giant tower shield and a bastard sword that looked like I’d need three of me just to lift it. It held the sword in one hand and the tower shield in the other. This thing looked deadly.

I ordered my two Draugr Knights to engage and had the big guy standing still so I could stealthily try to sneak up on the giant skeleton knight. My knights charged forward and started swinging their swords at it. The undead just raised its shield and started slowly pushing my undead back. It was content to let them hammer away at it. I took advantage of the chaos to sneak behind it and fired a Frost Shard at its head. It was a direct hit, well it would have been if it hadn’t shield bashed my undead away, stabbing its sword into the ground, and caught my Frost Shard.
“Weak!” It howled at me.
Wait how the fuck can it see me? I know I launched the Frost Shard from here, but still, it’s staring right at me. Wait calm down it probably can’t see you.
I began to slowly creep to the left out of its line of sight but it just followed me. Looks like Cloak Of Shadows wasn’t doing anything. So I aimed another Frost Shard at it and ordered my Draugrs to continue attacking it. It once again blocked my Frost Shard but it started freezing its shield, so it charged at me barreling into me knocking me off my feet. I scrambled away across the floor as I yelled for the big guy to attack. The big guy comes over and swings his ax into the knight and it just slashes through the ax head destroying the blade. The big guy drops his ax and starts trying to punch the knight for some damage. My adrenaline was pumping through me and I felt so alive. I had my three minions all engage it while I fired Frost Shards at it from afar. We were wearing it down with our onslaught when it started sucking in energy.
“ENOUGH” it yelled.
Dark umbral balls of energy began forming and swarming to it. Its bones became dark grey and seemed more imposing. Then it swept its sword across slashing the big guy across his chest and destroying my two Draugr Knights in one attack.
How the fuck did it do that? My Knights are no slouches. Hell, I’d have a tough time defeating one of them let alone two at once.
It dashed past the big guy and came right in front of me kicking me to the floor.
“I said enough mortal. Now give in and accept your fate.”
Great now the undead are monologueing.
While he, it sounded like a he, was speaking to me I shot another Frost Shard right between its eyes. I ended up hitting it in the neck and boy did that make him mad. I tried to roll away and I pulled out one of my daggers with my right hand, arming myself. I got into a fighting pose with my right arm wielding my dagger and my left hand ready to fire a Frost Shard. I backed up a couple of paces so that this undead was between me and the big guy. I took my best defensive stance and got ready for what was going to be the fight of my life.
“Come at me bonehead.”
Then he was gone from my sight.
Where the fuck did he go? Holy shit can he disappear like I can?
I still had my dagger out and I saw a glimmer of something in my peripheral vision to the right. I went to turn and stab out with the dagger when I felt a burning sensation below my shoulder, then I heard my dagger hit the ground along with my arm from the hand up to right below my shoulder. Everything went silent as I looked down at my now severed arm. The next thing I heard was Vaeda screaming at me.
“GREG GET OUT OF HERE QUICKLY! GREG SNAP OUT OF IT MAN!” He screamed at me.
I could feel the blood pouring out of me quickly I had to do something and fast. It pained me to do this but I had to get out of there alive if there was going to be anyone to summon back Vaeda. I called over to the big guy and told him to engage the enemy with everything he had. I snapped out of it and took off towards the exit as I heard my friend and minion fighting the mini-boss. My stump hurt so much and I was bleeding a ton. Thank god I had disabled the blue screens during combat or I’d be dead.
I still might die from blood loss. I need to stop the bleeding somehow and very quickly or I’m going to bleed to death. Maybe I could use the fire crystal to cauterize the wound? It’ll hurt but that's better than dying.
I didn’t dare to look back and kept running and running out of the mausoleum. I cast Cloak Of Shadows and noticed I was now completely out of mana.
Great now I’ve got about 30 minutes of safety to get back to the mansion which is at least an hour away.
I ran and ran until I reached the safety of the mansion and I looked down at my now stump and threw up. It looked like it’d tried to heal a little bit. Guessing that was my health regen at work. It was still bleeding and I had to make that stop now. I grabbed my fire crystal out of my pocket and pressed it up against the wound with my left hand pushing some mana into it. The fire blinked into existence and started cauterizing the wound. It hurt more than anything I’d ever felt in my entire life including the fight with the Alpha Rusher and even getting the arm cut off a little while ago. I took off my hoodie and stuffed it into my mouth so I wouldn’t be heard and kept burning myself till no blood was coming out. Then I took my remaining mana and used the water crystal to clean the wound and then I tied off my now one-armed hoodie around it so nothing could get in the wound. Then I passed out to the blinking blue boxes screaming at me.
