Chapter 16: Monster Bounty Hunter

Chapter 16: Monster Bounty Hunter

'Monster Bounty Hunter... and It's a Unique Class?'

Leiu was momentarily surprised by this sudden messages as he never expected to get the chance to change to a Unique class when he did the achievements.

Moreover, the class seemed really alluring, moreso than the Dark Knight Class, which, despite also being a 'Unique' Class, had yet to offer him good offensive skills.

Still, enticing as it was, Leiu wasn't going to change into a Monster Bounty Hunter. He didn't go through all the three Trials just to abandon being a Dark Knight now. He trusted the fact that, eventually, he would be awarded for his efforts.

"No, I will keep my current class."

From the bitter expression on his face and his frowning thick eyebrows, Leiu's immediate refusal clearly didn't sit well with the Village Chief.

"Young hero, how about you think about this again? The class is Unique and I assure you that you won't be disappointed."

"No, thank you."

"Look, I really think it's the perfect class for you. How about this, I'll make it your secondary class and you don't even need to do the quest!"

Again, Leiu heard something unexpected. Players weren't supposed to get a Secondary Class this early into the game, and especially not in the Beginner Area. Plus, the Village Chief's unusual insistence was strange, to say the least.

"No."

The Village Chief's wry smiled vanished, now replaced by a genuinely disturbing expressionless face. His figure blurred and glitched again, seemingly about to completely disappear.

Leiu saw the 'Darkness' flare up from his body again, swirling around the NPC before everything returned to normal. Afraid that he might unwittingly get caught in a bug, Leiu urgently asked

"Can you teleport me to the city? I'm in a bit of a hurry."

In response, the Village Chief relented and, after a sigh of exasperation, helplessly said,

"Fine. You win. How about I imprint the class on you?"

"Imprint?"

"It's just like getting another class, however, you will still keep you Main Class and you can still choose a secondary class at Lv50, the only downside of this is that the effectiveness of the whole class imprinted is 50% and the one who imprints will be weakened too." The Village Chief clicked his tongue and added, "You're really lucky you are the only candidate I found."

..

'I suppose this method words.'

There were literally no downsides to refusing this time around. After a brief moment of contemplation, Leiu nodded his head.

"Once you see how great a Monster Bounty Hunter is, you will regret not making it your Main Class."

As he said that, the Village Chief extended his big hand and put it on Leiu's chest. There was no reaction for the couple of breaths, but after that, Leiu felt something rush inside of his body.

More strange was that he felt as if he was suffocating, his breathing become more and more rapid. His vision was momentarily covered by a primordial Darkness, and from it came a ghoulish cry that, rather than scaring him, filled him with warmth and serenity.

The uncomfortable feeling of the so-called 'Imprint' was gone, and when Leiu regained his senses, he saw the System Notifications pop-up.

As Leiu was checking the new skills and checking their details, the Village Chief's turned blurry before vanishing altogether.

"Thank you for the cla-"

Leiu stopped mid-way, puzzled and weirded out by what was happening to that particular NPC. Before he could look for him, the System automatically teleported him to his destination.

Within seconds, he appeared in a huge plaza filled to the brim with Players and NPCs. At the center was a beautifully-designed fountain with a feminine man holding a jar and pouring its contents downwards.

"RECRUITING A HEALER FOR A DUNGEON... MUST AT LEAST BE LV13"

"SELLING HIGH-QUALITY BOAR FUR AND NAILS FOR ONLY 80 COPPERS EACH!"

The medieval beauty of the place notwithstanding, Leiu found himself disliking the crowds of people and the non-stop screaming.

With White Edge sheathed on his waist, a dark hood covering his face, and a grey cloak on his back, Leiu looked a bit unique compared to the other Players. Still, he wasn't eye-catching enough to warrant stared from everyone.

Some people threw some suspicious and cursory glances at him but they only lasted for a brief moment. Killing other players was allowed in Hell Gate but the cities were considered as 'sanctuaries', places where everyone was protected. The only way a Player would be able to kill another Player would be due to very special quests.

As for killing NPCs, it was entirely possible but heavily-advised against. The Guards of the city were very high-leveled compared to the newbies, and a Player's reputation played a huge role in getting access to quests and shops.

..

First and foremost, Leiu checked his surroundings and noticed a couple of NPCs that could offer him quests. There was a great number of them, though he had no way to know which quest was best. There were so many of them that it the notion to get all of them was ridiculous. With how much free time he had every day, Leiu wouldn't be able to complete everything, nor was it efficient to seek the path of a completionism so early into the game.

'It really is a big city.'

From the few pictures he had seen, Leiu had a vague sense of Black Mountain City's scope, nevertheless, as he now saw it in person, he was truly fascinated. Of course, it was significantly smaller than the modern cities on Earth, but it was still a large city surrounded by high stone walls.

There was a magnificent stone-castle at the North-Western part, several big buildings to the West and South, and several interconnected wide streets in the East.

However, the thing that caught Leiu's attention was the Black Mountain that towered over everything around it. It was so big that it put the eiffel tower and the pyramids to shame. One look at it would make anyone realize that they were, indeed, in a fantasy world.

'That must be, at least, half the size of Everest

..

After much thought, Leiu was still not sure what to do: He could either get a couple of quests and slowly complete them, or simply go outside and hunt monsters for Experience and loot.

'Farming monsters is a faster method and the potential rewards could be good. As for quests, they are luck of the draw, especially without a guide. I'll look around the city first and try to get some quests... if they are bothersome or the rewards are bad, I'll abandon them and level up in the old-fashioned way.'

The next hour was spent walking around to get the layout of the city as well as check the available quests. After which, he visited some shops and bought new gear to replace those he lost due to fighting the wolves.

Adventurer's Armor : +5 Vitality / +5 Agility / +4 Strength

Standard Leather Gloves : +5 Dexterity / +2 Agility

Standard Leather Boots : +5 Agility / +3 Strength / +1 Dexterity

Once that was done, Leiu had 2 Gold and 40 Silvers left. Not a terrible sum for a beginner, but mere chump change compared to the bigwigs that have hundreds of subordinates farming currency for them.

Next, he spent even more to buy consumables, which were mainly Health Potions. They cost 1 Silver each, but they healed more Health than those find in the Beginner Area.
