Chapter 14: First Defeat

Chapter 14: First Defeat

His target any other wolf, the only difference was its fur, which was snow-white. With so many wolves around, Leiu anticipated that a Wolf Boss was probably roaming around. When he saw his quarry, he felt relief and anxiousness.

The white wolf was a bit bigger than Forest Wolves, its eyes blood-red and its four limbs particularly muscular. Even though he was a distance away, it still spotted Leiu but didn't attack, strangely enough. It seemed to be looking at him with a hint of haughtiness.

The white wolf didn't even see Leiu as prey, that gaze was as if someone was looking at an ant.

Leiu tightly held his Steel Sword and stared back at the white wolf, he didn't turn his head or back away, instead, he faced it directly, not willing to let himself be frightened or looked down upon.

Distant Snow Wolf(Elite Monster) : Lv25

It is advised to form a party to kill this monster.

.

Leiu disregarded the System's warning and charged at the Distant Snow Wolf.

The first thing Leiu did was a slash at its head, trying to finish it with one hit, but that was disillusionment from his part. This was an Elite Monster, incomparable to the weak Forest Wolves.

The System's warning wasn't unwarranted. A monster like this, generally, required a party of Players to be defeated. It was possible to take it down if a Player either was too high-leveled and well-geared, or if one was skilled enough.

..

Before Leiu's hit could connect, the wolf retaliated with swiftness and ferocity; It launched itself forward, ramming it head into Leiu's chest and blew him backwards.

Fortunately, he had activated [Dark Empowerment], which significantly decreased damage taken. Even then, however, Leiu still lost 10 Health Points!

While reflexively holding his abdomen with his free hand, Leiu supported himself to his feet and raised his head, shocked to see the wolf charging at him with full-speed. With gritted teeth, he clumsily rolled out of the way, barely dodging the incoming claws that were aimed at his head.

Disheveled and slightly disoriented due to that initial hit, Leiu hastily stood up and maintained his gaze on the enemy. Leiu drank a health potion and then swung his Steel Sword at the Distant Snow Wolf, which spun around and leapt at him with its mouth fully-open, long fangs potruding from its upper jaw, ready to gnaw at the fleshy target.

[Dark Empowerment] was still active, therefore, Leiu tightened his the swung blade, soon feeling strong vibrations as the fangs and sword clashed with each other. He could feel the monstrous strength of the wolf as he staggred backwards, barely able to remain on his feet and resist the pushing force.

The wolf, cleverly, backed away and then attacked with its claws, forcing Leiu to used [Invisible Strike]. Two quick thrusts, the first stopping the wolf's claws and the second cutting them and also part of the paw itself, causing blood to gush out.

Half of the claws were cut and blood came out of them, the wolf emitted an angry howl as it leapt back, its eyes letting out an ominous crismon glint.

'Its defense isn't as high as its attack.'

It was to be expected for it to have a weak defense, after all, no monster was strong in all aspects.

The Health bar of the wolf decreased by a bit, probably 3%, but this gave Leiu a bit of confidence.

The white wolf's Health bar was at 25%, Leiu had struggled against it for 20 minutes, barely dodging by a hair's breadth and sometimes receiving its powerful slams which sent him flying a dozen of meters.

He used 8 Health Potions, but the problem was that when it the enemy's health reached 30%, it started using Magical spells. It wasn't anything fancy or outrageously strong, merely long-ranged ice-aspected projectiles. Still, the projectiles, along with the wolf's agility, were a deadly combo. Leiu managed to resist and content with it for bit before ultimately succumbing to his wounds and dying.

As Leiu saw the arrogant gaze of the wolf, he was both angry at it and himself. It was his fault that he couldn't do it, but death was not the end, he would try as many times as possible until he kills it!

The true reason because of Leiu's anger was the loss of a Level. Furthermore, as someone who enjoyed tackling hard content, his first loss against a boss made him feel bitter.

Before leaving the beginner's village again, Leiu turned in the two quests and then sold all the other loot.

Luckily, a single wolf fang was 20 copper, and since he had 64 of them, the total was 12 Silver.

After selling everything, Leiu had 2 Gold and 41 Silver.

He bought 5 Steel Swords just in case and departed from the village, he disregarded all the monsters that he stumbled upon, only planning to take care of the Distant Snow Wolf

After he inevitable win against that wolf, he would come back and get the achievements for the Bees and the Rabbits.

..

Leiu managed to arrive at where he was in just half an hour, it was already 6:55 PM, however, Leiu didn't mind, he was planning to sleep at 6:30 PM before he headed to work but now that he got killed, there was absolutely no way he's going to log off and do that tomorrow.

The Elite Monster was still at the same place, its Health recovered to full. Unfortunately, all wounds it had sustained earlier were gone, including a stab in the eye which had half-blinded it.

'We do it again.' Calmly thought Leiu as he mentally readied himself then sprung into a sprint.

When in-range, he slashed with his Steel Sword. As it was already night, his passive was active, and that, along with 'Dark Empowerment', made his attacks considerably stronger.

The wolf seemed to recognize Leiu, although it didn't treat him like an ant anymore, the arrogant look in its eyes was still present, it's as if it was saying

The wolf counter-attacked by using its body to slam at Leiu with incredible speed, but Leiu already predicted this kind of response, making him stop his slash mid-way, pull his hand back and then threw the entire sword at the incoming enemy.

Then, without even seeing the results, he jumped a few meters back, no matter if his attack was successful or not, he was not dumb enough to stay there to check.

..

Blood dripped from the snow wolf's body, dying its pure white fur with red blood, the creature let out painful howls, the Steel Sword was engraved on its back, probably 2 to 3 inches deep.

It violently shook its body, it even tried to slam itself to a nearby tree to shake off the sword on its back, and after a few tries, it succeeded.

The reason Leiu didn't attack when the wolf was getting rid of his sword was due to his inability to do so. Once he threw his sword, to equip another one; he had to wait 5 seconds or else he had to fight with his bare hands.

Just as the 5 seconds passed, he equipped another Steel Sword from his inventory, then without wasting any second, he rushed at the enemy.

His previous attack took 12% of the wolf's Health bar, it was definitely a critical attack and the injury was by no means superficial.

..

Just like that, the two sides clashed with each other; One second Leiu was being sent flying by a powerful attack from the wolf; and the next , the wolf was hit, and subsequently wounded, by an invisible strike from Leiu. Slowly but surely, its body started accumulated all sorts of bloody slash marks, ruining the sight of its beautiful snow-white fur.

Leiu had to admit that this wolf was the hardest and strongest enemy he encountered so far. It really was a formidable enemy, definitely more difficult than the Boss of the second Trial of the Dark Knight Class Quest.
