A loud explosion was heard in the distance as Isol stared at the fighting below him. He was sitting on top of the branches, the tree was tall and vast. It's figure held the sky with its crown of gray-like leaves.
The commotion down below was the fight between the illusive 8 winged rock dragon and a humongous plant. The rock dragon was smaller than normal dragons but unlike normal ones, it had the ability to move at extreme speed with its wings and it had multiple eyes decorated around its head giving it view of its surrounding environment all the time.
As the vine like plant tried to fight back it could only helplessly give up, as whenever it tried to grab hold of the rock dragon it would shed off the rock on its skin and its movement was simply too fast for its vines to catch hold of.
The rock dragon opened its mouth and a stream of rock was blasted out. The vines made a gigantic wall but they were easily pierced through. This play had been going on for about an hour now, and while the vine was exhausted and tired, the gigantic crocodile was still energetic. Treating it like a helpless prey, it would take hits on it and then proceed to run.
As if it was on its last breath the vine-like monster started to wilt as it started to unfold on itself. The rock dragon stared at anticipation, it loved these vine monsters because they always had nectar inside its body that it could eat and it was always fun to play with them.
As it started to unfold, a fragrance spread from the body of the vine monster as yellow liquid seeped from the insides. The rock dragon salivated as it hurriedly walked towards the body, and when it was about to take a bite out of it. Its head was indented into the ground as a foot was crashed on top of its head.
Ruthsbane had arrived. Isol had already called him 3 hours ago when he found the rock dragon was simply just waiting for him to come.
The foot that was on the gigantic crocodile's head was a creature that was originally invisible and started to show its true form. It was a gigantic chameleon, its eyes stared at both sides and its tongue and scales was ever changing in color.
Isol was flabbergasted. This was Ruthsbane's top secret summon? He thought it would actually be a lesser dragon as he always showed wyrms, so why did he show a gigantic chameleon all of a sudden? Well it's not like the chameleon was bad as it easily crushed the rock dragon under its foot.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Ruthsbane laughed as he stared at the rock dragon under the chameleon's foot, he was quite excited, originally he thought that it would take a few months to even find it, but when he got a message this morning he was excited. He rushed to the location as fast as possible, and he had already arrived sooner but he was just waiting for the rock dragon to drop its guard, and when it did, the chameleon struck.
He saw the speed of it and he knew that he wouldn't be able to catch it so, he settled for an ambush. Luckily everything went according to plans. As he watched the chameleon swallowed the rock dragon he finally calmed his heart. The chameleon didn't actually eat it.
It had two chambers inside its body, one was for food and the other was for items that it would store inside. It would be wasteful to just eat it, he didn't travel all the way here just to kill it. As he put the gigantic chameleon back into the pocket space, he saw Isol climbing down from the tree.
"You're the one that made the message?"
"Yes, it was me lord."
"Good, good, with this you truly qualify to be an apprentice of my?"
"Of course! It would be my honor."
Acting as if he was in shock and delight Isol hurriedly agreed, but in reality he was much more calm. He had already expected this, it was basically what Ruthsbane implied, and with his luck it would be stupid if he wasn't the one that found the rock dragon.
"Alright, I'll notify the rest of them to meet up where we originally came from, if they can't arrive in 8 hours we'll just leave them inside the swamp."
"I'll talk to you more about being my apprentice when arrive back home. Get on my wyrm we're leaving."
Ruthsbane showed no concern for the rest of the apprentices, warmly inviting Isol onto his wyrm. As they got on the winged wyrm they flew back to the location they originally entered from and waited for the rest of the apprentices.
Isol was meditating on top of the wyrm's back as he was recharging his luck battery. Finding the hybrid rock dragon did indeed use up a portion of his luck and he wanted it to be full again. As he waited for the rest apprentices, the timer finally ended.
8 hours had gone by and only 7 out of the original 21 came back. 8 died due to Isol's luck which led to 13 and 5 didn't arrive, either because they met an unfortunate end or just because they couldn't make it back in time. As the rest of the apprentices stared at envy of Isol's figure.
They could only accept fate as they were all prepared to travel back home. They expected it to be a longer trip but due to someone's dog shit luck the trip was shorter than they expected.
"All right get ready for another week of travelling back, everyone will travel on my wyrm as I don't want another group to go dying due to the attack of mole rats."
With the kind words from Ruthsbane, the wyrm dug into the ground like a drill and hurried back home. As if It was influenced by its master's mood, it dug faster than usual.
