5. The Mole Rats

5. The Mole Rats

Isol was waiting outside the tower the beautiful night stars illuminated the empty field as more and more apprentices gradually met up in the field. This was the designated area where Ruthsbane would pick them up.

All the apprentices cautiously observed each other, although Ruthsbane didn't say it, they clearly understood that the person that he would pick as his student would be one of them. They all treated each other as competitors.

The staring contest between them finally ended when a wyrm broke through the ground and rubble flew everywhere. Ruthsbane and his gigantic wyrm with wings crawled out of the ground and he looked at all them.

"Alright since all of you guys are here, I'm going to be telling you where we're going to go."

"We're going to the Bog Mountains that are North from the tower, if you studied then you should know the Bog Mountains has countless poisonous insects with gigantic rock dragons. My goal here is to catch an 8 winged rock dragon. Apparently one of the rock dragon and insect queen mated and somehow made an offspring."

"Your job is to help me search or find clues where the 8 winged rock dragon might be."

The rock dragons that Ruthsbane were talking about were not actually dragons, just really big crocodiles with mud covering their scales. The mud acted like armor and normal attacks wouldn't even be able to break the mud off their scales.

The apprentices all started to discuss and whisper among themselves. Some of them knew about the Bog Mountains while others were simply clueless. Isol was more concerned about how an insect queen and rock dragon mated, biologically it should be impossible as they are two entirely different species, but nature finds its way.

Ruthsbane interrupted the noises and made the apprentices all get on the 6 wyrms he provided. There were 30 apprentices and they were split into 5 per wyrm. Ruthsbane will naturally ride with them as he had a better one.

As the apprentices all clung onto the scales of the wyrms, they braced themselves for impact. The way they were going to travel was through tunneling, they wouldn't have to face attacks on land and wouldn't have to go through some of the rough terrains. Although that didn't mean they were completely safe, as there still lived some monsters underground.

As the wyrms tunneled through the soil Isol was already thinking what having good luck meant. If he had good luck then wouldn't that mean because of his luck bad things would happen to the people on the other wyrms? Those who had good luck profited from the misfortune of others.

On the third day of travelling through the soil, a different group of apprentice were just meditating and bored out of their mind when suddenly the tunnel they were in started to shake as the soil above started to rain down. One of the apprentices in a blue robe looked above and what he saw scared him.

There was a group of naked mole rats with a nose that looked like a deformed starfish. The moles didn't have eyes and while the group wyrms were tunneling through the ground, the noises they made attracted this group of mole rats.

The mole rats saw the delicious humans on the wyrm and started to go after them. The wyrm seeing the situation, started to dig faster. Although the mole rats couldn't do anything to it, that couldn't be said the same to the apprentices on its body. It didn't care about them but they were needed for his master so it tried to protect them.

The apprentice with the blue robe stared at them and his arms started to chill as frost appeared. He casted a rain of ice on the mole rats. The skins of the mole rats were thick, the ice didn't do much but slow them down. Agitated by the pebbles being thrown at them they roared and charged more aggressively. Their claws were like metals as they dug closer to them.

"Use your spells if you don't want to die!"

The apprentices all started to fire off any aggressive spells they knew in hopes of delaying the mole rats so they could buy time to escape. One of them wanted to use a fire bolt until he was hit in the head.

"Are you trying to kill them or us?"

The blue robed apprentice looked at the person who was about to use fire bolt like a retard. As they continuously fought against the mole rats, their mana reserves got lower and lower. Some of them could barely squeeze out any spells to defend themselves.

The apprentices looked haggard and one of the mole rats even reached on top of the wyrm before it was thrashed to death. The situation was the same to all groups of the wyrms except the one Isol was on. Oblivious to the chaos that was happening around them, they were peacefully travelling through the soil.

"I wonder when we'll reach our destination, I'm getting pretty bored of just attracting luck particles."

Isol yawned as he meditated, he knew that it would take them at least 7 days to reach Bog Mountain. The wyrm was travelling at speeds that were faster than most of the planes in his previous world, even with that speed hadn't reached their destination. This new world was gigantic compared to his previous one.
