“Wu..!”
A loud horn erupted, waking the sleepy kids inside the huts. The warm beams of sunlight from the morning sun penetrated through the holes of the wooden huts, bathing the room with it’s warmth. However, to those not under the beams of light, the cold morning air tortured the thin bodies of the youths.
Groggy and sleepy, everyone hurried to leave the huts and prepared for the usual morning exercise. Every morning, the kids would be sent through rigorous activities. The exercises weren’t the kind of exercise normal people go through, these were life threatening and deadly. It was very easy for people to die, if one was not careful.
Lining up row by row, everyone stood together in a orderly manner. There were only 2 overseers up and awake, the rest still sleeping. On this island, the overseers were lazy and would hardly care for anything.
If they were ordered wake up early in the morning to make sure the kids were sent through the exercise, they would draw lots to see who had to do it. Evidently, the 2 overseers were the 2 that lost. Their expression were full of anger and from the speed they were tapping their toes in frustration, one could tell that they were very cranky for not being to sleep longer.
“Today, we are training your physical fitness. You are going to face the wolves on your own. I can tell you now that we will only keep half of you for the next day. The higher ups are cutting the fundings and not all of you are needed. This means that half of you will die in the trial today!” the overseer laughed as his wolf howled in delight at being given a chance to feast “Ha ha! Enjoy the feeling of death!”
Hearing these words, panic started to show on the youths’ faces, and their uneasy gazes shifted to the wolves surrounding them. Unlike the overseers who were still asleep, all of the wolves were awake, ready to feast on the flesh of the youths.
Some of the younger and weaker youths begged for mercy. However, these villains would never show any pity for these kids, and at the command of the middle aged overseer, they began to open the doors of the compounds. The leash that held all the wolves were suddenly released and presence of savage beast instantly swept throughout the small camp!
Pale white claws dug into the ground while their grey fur stood on end, their ferocious fangs were exposed beyond their vicious mouths as they howled in delight.
Seeing the Wolves readying themselves while baring their fangs, brandishing their claws and continuously howling, the youths’ face paled and became lifeless. A few of them even went as far as shedding tears.
To these feeble kids, the wolves were scary and intimidating, having to undergo such a cruel and merciless exercise was truly horrifying for these young childrens. The previous exercises paled in comparison to the wolves. After being branded to fear the wolves throughout their life on the island, no one knew what to so.
Soon, one of the kids snapped out of it and finally regained his bearings. He instantly rushed towards the open doors of the compounds, leaving the group of youths and the howling wolves behind.
Instantly, like a spark lighting off a barrel of explosives, it exploded, the mob of young children began to follow the his footsteps, Nora included. It was even faster and deadlier than the mobs during feeding time. Under the fear of the wolves, adrenaline began pumping throughout the bodies of the youths.
Using all their might, everyone ran as fast as they could, while the horde of vicious wolves chased in furious might.
It wasn’t a race to see who can reached an area the fastest, it was a race to see who can out run who. Those who were slow were instantly pounced on by the horde and eaten alive. The wolves sharp fangs digged and ripped apart the flesh of the youths.
After reaching the gate, everyone began to split up in all direction but one. It was only the west that no one dared to venture. Through past experiences, everyone already knew that the west side of the island was where all the scary and vicious beasts lived. Without the safety of the compounds, even the overseers would fear the monsters that lived in the west side.
Nora ran as fast as she could north, the place she was most familiar with. With stretched ears, she could hear the howling of wolves and the screams of young children getting softer and softer as she ran further north. Using her mana to push herself and give her the stamina needed, she ran from the wolves.

A wolf continued to chase her, as Nora sped through an umber-brown, ancient forest. Branches and leaves whipping past her as she rushed through the vegetation. Numerous fallen trees lined up across the forest floor as Nora jumped over them.
The foliage became thick and lush, forming an arch of green above her head. Soon Nora arrived at a wide glade, where the trees fell away, revealing the bespeckled sky. Nora sat down with her back against a moss covered tree trunk and took deep breaths. With her weak and frail body, she had reached her limit. Luckily, somewhere along the way, she had managed to out ran the wolf and lost it through the bewildering woods.
However, this was not for long, with her sweat soaked clothes, it won’t be long till the wolf managed to tracked her down. Using its sensitive nose, the wolves would eventually find her.
Through, Nora could rest for a bit and then run again until half of the children are killed, Nora had a better idea. With no one around to see what she was capable of, a plan began to form in Nora’s brilliant mind.
Nora jumped and crouched on top of a tree, hiding in between the greens of the leaves. This was where she would get her first kill. To reach the point where she can take revenge, she would need to kill many things to grow stronger. If she were to not risk her life to kill the wolf, she would be stuck at level 1 forever. Thus she waited.
Like a natural born hunter, Nora silently waited in the leaves, eyes wide open. Her eyes darted from place to place, while her ears were opened and intuned with nature.
Soon, her ears picked up a sound. This was not the usual creaking, rustling or buzzing. This was the sound of an animal moving pass bushes. The sounds of leaves suddenly moving was picked up by the sharp ears of Nora. Her mana was full again after the wait and thus she had full use of her entire mana pool to deal with the wolf.
However, although, Nora used to be a undead death lord for centuries worth of knowledge on magic, Nora only knew a few spells that required low mana.
This should be enough anyway! I don’t need much to kill a simple wolf. I deserved to die, if i fail such a easy ambush!
With full confidence in her abilities, Nora clutched the sharp piece of rock in her hand. The rustling of leaves and branches got louder and louder as Nora felt the wolf get closer to her.
Soon, Nora spotted it. With it’s noses buried to the forest floor, the wolf sniffed and walked towards her direction. Just above the wolf’s head, a translucent blue number appeared, ‘level 9’.

Instantly Nora jumped down from the treetops and using the momentum of her falling body, she bashed the wolf’s head with the rock, stunning it. Channeling all her mana into the spell ‘mana bolt’, she blasted it into the mouth of the stunned wolf. With a large splatter of blood and gore, the head of the wolf instantly exploded. The wolf didn’t even had a chance to look at it’s attacker before it died. Even though, it was just a lv10 spell from the acolyte class, it was still enough to kill a simple wolf.

Jumping down from the tree tops, Nora began to dissect the wolf after extracting the wolf’s soul and keeping it in her soul storage. Using her mana control, she channeled mana on her hand and turned it into a knife. With the huge increase in the size of her mana pool, Nora could finally afford to use mana for miscellaneous tasks.
Taking some dried wood and branches from the surrounding, Nora began to make a fire using a small fire spell to light it up.
Blazing flames lit up in bright orange hue as the wood started to burn and sizzle. Turning her mana into a skewer, she pierced the wolf meat on top and began to roast.
Soon the delicious smell of wolf meat invaded Nora’s nostrils. The golden brown glow of the skin of meat signal that the meat was ready to eat. With stomach growling like thunder too inappropriate for a young lady, Nora began feasting on it.
With her stomach hungry for food and the fact that she been eating disgusting mush everyday, Nora munched on the hot greasy meat. Like an animal, Nora chomped on it, take a large bite every time.
Soon the smell of roasted wolf melted as Nora consumed it all. All the cooked parts were eaten and devoured by the small little girl. With a full belly and mana pool, Nora left the uncooked meat of the wolf behind and marched towards the direction of the wolf howls. It was now Nora’s turn to hunt.
