Chapter 23 : New mission

Chapter 23 : New mission

“Silver one!?” The elf receptionist exclaimed in surprise.

“What! Silver one?”

“Wait, you are telling me she’s silver one?”

“Life’s so unfair! Someone 10 years younger than me is the same rank as me?.”

The crowd of people who were waiting to hear the rank of the young beauty were shocked when they heard the receptionist.

*Cough, Cough*

Nora tried to get the receptionist’s attention. She didn’t want to stay in the building any longer as it was getting awkward.

“Ah, sorry miss, it’s not everyday that we see someone so young get such a rank in our guild. Most of the people here are beginners and are quite weak, so it was quite a surprise to hear someone so young get silver one.” The receptionist tried to explain.

“Aww, Jess, i’m not that weak,” One of the young adventurer complain.

“Can it Tom, when you reach B rank then you can ask me out,” the receptionist, jess, turned and snapped at the adventurer, shutting him down. However, turning back to Nora, her anger immediately died down and her face returned back into a smile.

“Sorry about that miss. Here is your adventurer’s badge, please infuse some of your mana into it and it will be linked to you. This badge is made of a special material such that if you were to die or this badge gets destroyed then the guild will be notified. This is to help the guild keep track of adventurers who might be trapped and post rescue missions for them or to contact their family if they are dead.”

Nora accepted the badge and infused her mana into it, linking the badge to her. Nora looked at the badge saw that it had one silver wand on it. On the back side of the badge, Nora saw that it had her particulars on it. Nora noticed that it was similar to the one she found in the Sir’s space ring.

Once Nora finished linking the badge, Jess continued “This badge can serve as your identification almost everywhere and you would also need it to take requests. Currently you are silver one which is equivalent to a C rank.”

“Dam mages and their stupid naming, why couldn’t they use our ranking system as well!” Jess quietly grumbled before continuing.

“Anyway, If you wish to rank up, you can to either complete requests from the guild or take the colour ranking test again. If you wish to any take missions, you can go to the notice board to find some. After picking the mission you want, you pass it to me to verify it.”

“Thanks, may i know if there are any dungeons around here? Nora asked. She was quite curious about them and wanted to check them out herself.

“I’m sorry but there isn’t any discovered dungeons near this town, the nearest would at the town of Gumar which is about 2 to 3 days travel by carriage.”

Hearing that she was not going to be able to check the dungeon out, Nora felt depressed and left the counter. She walked to the notice board to check for missions. Some of the younger guys went up to talk to her and asked if she would like to join their party but she politely rejected them. Perhaps in the future, she might try out for a party to gain social skills, but right now she was too busy to deal with their shit.

Browsing through the list of missions posted on notice board, Nora saw that all it was for rank C and below. This was due to the fact that the town was just a beginner town. There were very few threats nearby and thus had no high level quests.

One by one, message boxes appeared in front of each missions whenever she read the quest. However, after reading their text, Nora brushed it away due to it’s low rewards.

Soon she saw a quest that immediately caught her interest the moment she saw it. Normally, something so mundane and trivial as a rank C goblin subjugation quest would not catch Nora’s attention. However, the rewards for the quest alerted Nora that something else was going on.

Goblin Camp Dangers - Part 1

Quest objective: Investigate and resolve the dangers in the goblin camp.

Quest rewards: Exalted class gacha discount voucher, 500 achievement points, 5000 Exp and unlock quest for part 2.

Reading out the rewards, Nora knew something weird was going on in the subjugation mission. Just by the rewards, Nora knew that it was going to be a difficult one. Since, Nora had done multiple quests before in the past, she knew rewards were based on how difficulty of the mission.

In the world she was in, many things like strength and power were measured and ranked, weapons, armours and equipments were no exception. They were ranked by their value, rarity and power. The gacha discount voucher she was going to get for completing the mission was rated by the system as exalted, meaning that the item she could roll for was an exalted ranked item.

The lowest ranking for items was common while the highest was legendary. It ranking had 7 tiers, common, rare, epic, exalted, unique, ancient and legendary.

Thus, seeing that the quest reward included a exalted class gachapon, Nora became shocked and excited as to what the secret inside the goblin camp was. She wanted to complete the quest as fast as possible.

In terms of value, Nora rated that the cloak she found in the shop was exalted rank. This means that the gachapon reward was going to be as valuable as her cloak made of lightning behemoth skin.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Nora couldn’t help but feel excited as the quest she found was beyond her expectation. When she came here here to look for a system quest by checking the adventurer’s missions, she was expecting a normal type of quest with average or low rewards. She didn’t expect herself to chance upon such a great quest.

Picking up the piece of paper, Nora took it to the counter and quickly got it verified. This meant that the mission was officially hers to take, no one else could take it. After taking the quest, Nora hurriedly left the guild and rushed to back to the inn. She wanted to prepare as much as possible before going onto the mission.

…..

Returning to her room, Nora saw that Evelyn was back to her ghost form and all around the room were piles of gold and silver. Moreover, in the corner there was a pile of clothes and fabrics.

“Master! I did what you asked and took 5% of everyone’s wealth. Hehehe, none of those lofty nobles will notice a thing. In total, I stole 537 gold and 73 silver.”

“Okay, i’ll call the maid. Take a satchel and store some of the gold inside it. Go buy all rare metals you need to finish up my adventuring armour. I found a difficult quest we can do. It’ll be a great help if i have the armour when doing the quest.”

After storing all the gold inside the space ring, Nora called for the maid again and ordered lunch. Nora and Evelyn ate lunch together, enjoying the heavenly delicacies. After they were done, Evelyn left while Nora took off her cloak to begin her enchantment.

Going Into the achievement shop, Nora bought herself the last primer she needed. Although buying from the achievement shop was usually expansive compared to buying in real life, Nora felt that she could indulge herself a bit as it only costed her a bit of points since she bought so little.

Moreover, since she was going to be using the cloak for a long time, she wanted it to have the best enchantments possible. She needed the last primer to create the the best enchantments possible. After she was done, she took out all the bottles of primer she got and placed them in front of her in a neat row.

She knew exactly what kind of enchantments she wanted to be placed onto the cloak. She was going on place 2 powerful enchantments on it and 1 low ranking ones. Normally, it was very difficult to place so many enchantments on a single item. Not only did the item not have enough space, it was also very risky. Just one mistake was all it took for all the enchantments merge and fail, causing it to blow up, destroying the item with it. Normally, people would only place a maximum of 1 powerful enchantments with 1 or 2 small enchantments on a single item as it was too risky to do more.

However, Nora was confident she could do it. She had centuries worth of experience. With the large size of the cloak, 2 big enchantments and 1 small enchantment was just perfect amount for it. It was just enough that she was confident enough to have more than 80% chance of succeeding. She knew that if she placed 3 big enchantments or 2 big enchantments with 2 small enchantments, it was going to very risky with only less than 30% chance of succeeding.

Thus, she began by etching the first rune for her first enchantment onto the cloak and dropping juniper primer into the gap. Using the enchanting rod, she slowly etched runes onto the cloak using mana. Her mana slowly drained as an immense amount of mana poured itself onto the cloak. Throughout the enchanting process, Nora switched primers as the runes began to take shape. At different places, different primers were added, giving the rune structure and solidifying its shape.

Soon, Nora felt herself drained of all her strength and mana. After spending an hour enchanting, almost all her strength and mana were gone. She had used almost all of her energy to complete the first enchantment, elemental resistance. It was a powerful enchantment which only enchanting masters could place. It gave the item increased resistance to all elemental attacks.

Thus, since the cloak was made of lightning behemoth skin, the cloak had an absurd amount of resistance to lightning while having average amount of resistance to all the rest. Moreover, Nora had the passive skill, ‘magic resistance’, which further boosted her magic resistance.

Drained of all her energy, Nora laid down on the bed. Her joints and muscles were aching after sitting in place for an hour. Thus, she decided to meditate and regain her mana.

While she was meditating, Evelyn returned to the room with a large muscular man following behind her. The man was carrying a large crate. Following Evelyn instructions, the man placed the crate in the corner before leaving.

“Master, what do you think of this design?” Evelyn held up a drawing and spoke. It was a drawing of the design of the light armour she was making.

“Remove the skirt please, i hate feeling the draft of wind between my legs. I also don’t want to be flashing myself every time i jump around. So remove it please. Ah, and change the colour to black too. It’s too vibrant for my taste.”

“Okay noted, change everything to dark colours, as for the skirt, how about shorts underneath the skirt? This way, your concerns will be nullified.”

“If i’m wearing shorts, then why do i need go through all the hassle of wearing a skirt and enchanting it? Why not just remove the skirt and just wear shorts instead?”

“But master, if the skirt is remove, it won’t be able to bring out your feminine strengths.”

“No buts, remove the skirt. I’m sure you can think of something else.”

“Sigh, fine, here’s the second design i drew up just in case of this exact situation,” Evelyn spoke and took out another piece of drawing.

“Dammit Eve! Use the second design finish it before the festival begins. I want to enjoy the festival after completing the mission.”

With a expression of defeat, Evelyn went to a corner and started sewing, mumbling to herself about how much her master overwork her.

Ignoring her nonsense, Nora continued with her mediation before returning to enchant her cloak. Nora placed another powerful enchantment, unbreaking silk fortification. It was an enchantment which heavily boosted its physical defense.

This enchantment was a more powerful version of the widely used enchantment, iron fortification. Just like the widely used iron fortification enchantment, this enchantment boosted the strength and physical defense. It made it so that it was as strong as iron. However, iron fortification could only be used on metal objects. This was due to the fact that the runes for the enchantments were very strong and large. Flexible and thin objects like her cloak was not strong or rigid enough to handle the enchantment without breaking.

However, unlike the iron fortification enchantment, unbreaking silk fortification enchantment could be used on thin and flexible materials. This enhancement was something very few enchanting master knew. Only someone with a wide array of knowledge on runes could placed it.

Done with the 2nd enchantment, Nora sat down and meditated till she was at full mana before placing the final enchantment, magic shroud. It was an enchantment which shrouded and hid the magic fluctuation given off by other enchantments. Whenever an enchantment was placed on an object, mana fluctuations would be given off. Once an enchantment was placed, the object would continuously glow in power, alerting others of it. This was extremely dangerous as it was basically the same as yelling to everyone that she had an extremely powerful object on her.

Thus, to be less conspicuous, Nora placed this enchantment to hide the mana fluctuations. This camouflaged the cloak and made it look like a normal cloak.

After fully enchanting the cloak, Nora noticed that it was already night time. She ate dinner with Evelyn before enchanting some small objects she found inside the sir’s space ring.

She was going to sell them to earn more gold in the future.
