Chapter 35 : Auction Hall

Chapter 35 : Auction Hall

After Nora left, the shadow above the room dropped down to greet Harry. “Hehehe young master, you really shot yourself in the foot with this one.”

“Shut it, Morease, I don’t want to hear it. How was I supposed to know she was a lesbian !? *Sigh* Anyways, how was it? Did you verify her identity?”

“Nope. All I found is that she’s a noble who stayed in the portside town of Randale for a week! As for where she was before that, I don’t know.” The bodyguard spoke. “As for her master, I looked through the details of all the enchanting masters in the vicinity, and none of them are unaccounted for. I believe that they are from a different region.”

Even though the Grimer auction house had a great reputation, but they were only a force which worked in Ameana. Unlike their parent company which worked world wide, they did not have the connections to check other kingdoms.

“As for her story, I believe it’s true. Her agile mana control, It’s incredible. She certainly have the potential to be an enchanter. Moreover, I found a few enchanted objects on her.” The bodyguard furrowed his brows, and muttered: “But where did she come from?”

“Young master, shall I continue with the research? I can ask some of my friends in Global Market to check for me.”

Harry paused before shaking his head: “Not now. We are trying to recruit him. If he notices you trying to dig up his history, he’ll have a bad impression of the auction. Moreover, even if he doesn’t want to work with us. Having us on his good side is good enough. As long as he continues to sell things to us, our reputation will prosper. Furthermore, it’s not worth the risk. As the future heir to this company, I can’t risk offending an unknown enchanting master.”

“Hehehe, master is that the true reason? I can see you’re blushing.”

“Shut up, Morease! I don’t want to hear it!”

“Hehehehe…”

…..

The next day, Nora arrived at the entrance of the auction house. In front of her was a huge racketing group of people crowding around the entrance.

This must be the main entrance.

Nora tried to look around for the VIP entrance. Her gaze swept all around her, and stopped on another pathway. The spacious pathway was covered by a red-colored carpet, and there were over ten guards with cold expressions stationed around the place. The domineering presence faintly emitting from their bodies frightened the human crowd beside them. None dared to cause a ruckus on the VIP area. Therefore, this resulted in an empty area being formed on the pathway there.

With her hood put on, Nora walked towards the quiet carpeted pathway. Arriving at the walkway, Nora flashed her VIP card to the guard. This caused a beautiful servant in a maid uniform to come and greet her.

“Miss, please follow me please, I’ll lead you to your booth.”

Once she finished saying this, the female servant hurriedly led the way, while Nora followed leisurely close behind. While walking, Nora continued her act of looking like a noble. She walked confidently with large strides, as if she was looking down upon the world. She knew what her public persona needed to be. Thought acting like a noble might be a bit too conspicuous, Nora knew that it would have the best results.

With her unknown background having hints of being of noble lineage, many would think twice before messing with her. Nora knew how nobles worked. No competent noble would take dare the risk of offending a higher ranking noble. It was instilled into them from young.

Following the servant girl, Nora walked through the hallway, and climbed up the stairs towards her booth. While walking, Nora noticed that the lightning was a bit dark, giving the hallway a mysterious feeling. Strutting along the corridor, Nora soon arrived at her booth. The girl opened the door for Nora, and allowed Nora to enter. After Nora entered, the girl closed the door and left.

Looking around, Nora saw that the room was decorated very luxuriously. Though it was small with only a few chairs, Nora was quite satisfied. By the side, Nora saw a gold plated machine with words on it. After reading it, Nora realised that it was used to call for service.

After she was done looking around the room, Nora looked down, and saw an incomparably large auction area, similar to a theater hall. It had packed seats, and a platform covered by large red curtains.

Nora walked up to the spacious, and exquisitely plush seat before sitting down. The soft feeling nearly caused her body to have the impulse to curl up within it.

As she sat on the chair, Nora’s eyebrow suddenly twitched. She lifted her head, and gaze towards another booth not far from her. She could feel a vile energy emanating from the person inside the booth. This was an energy unseen by everyone else in the hall. Even the A rank adventurers in the auction hall could not detect it.

Under the shadows of the booth, Nora’s brows slightly knit together. Gazing at the booth, Nora went into deep thought.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

As if sensing Nora’s gaze, pale-faced old man in the booth gazed back at Nora’s booth.

Beside him, another wrinkly faced old man asked softly. “Frank, what are you looking at?”

“Nothing, it is just that I feel that the fellow in that booth is somewhat strange. Everytime I look at the booth, I feel a strange fear in my heart.”

“Ke ke, Frank, you must have sensed wrongly. With your strength, other than those righteous hypocrites of the calamity church, I doubt there’s much in this world that can scare you. Moreover, the chances of them being in this city is close to impossible. Hahaha.” The wrinkly face old man said with a laugh.

“Perhaps, but one can’t be too careful. We can’t take any chances with our plans.”

“Frank, you are a little too paranoid. The stress of our operation must be getting to you. Just relax, no one knows of our plans. I know your senses are extremely sharp but I think with the way you’re acting, you’re more likely to give it away. Look, use your mana sense and check. The person in that booth is only at the B rank. How could someone as weak as that cause any problems to us?”

“Hmm, you’re right. Although that person has something hindering our senses, most likely an enchanted item, I can most definitely tell that that person is at the B rank.” Sensing that the other person’s gaze had left him, Frank immediately ceased having wild thoughts. Must have just been my imagination. That person must have just been looking around randomly.

“See, told ya, you were too paranoid. I mean, what can a B rank do to hinder our plans? Hahaha, by the way, have you heard? Three years from now, it’ll be on auction in the Dark Lagoon.”

“Yeah Jake, I’ve heard. Almost every big shot have heard it. We must do whatever we can to get it, if we can get it, and uncover its secrets, our power will increase tremendously.” Frank spoke, and turned his gaze back to the platform.

“If it’s so easy, many would have uncovered it by now. Heh, nevermind that, we should focus on the auction first, we need to find the blade with the undiscovered enchantment,” Jake spoke, and followed Frank’s gaze.

“So, it is finally about to begin.” Nora softly muttered as her eyes sparkled with anticipation. Her thoughts about the two in the booths were gone. Though she sensed that the two person in the booth were extremely suspicious, she knew there was nothing she could do about it right now. I can follow them later, but first, I need to pay attention to the auction. This is a once in a lifetime event.

Nora was extremely excited for the auction. With it being her first time participating in an auction, Nora wanted to experience everything it had to offer. She wanted the joy of outbidding an opponent after the gold from selling enchanted items are sent to her.

The clear ‘gong’ slowly reverberated throughout the auction ground. Following the sound of the ‘gong’, the flurry of voices in the auction room began to gradually die down. All attention were directed towards the crystal platform.

Under the attention of countless eyes, an alluring women, dressed in a beautifully decorated blue dress, confidently stepped up onto the stage. The blue dress that tightly wrapped around her body showed off just the right amount of skin. This caused the males of the audience to gaze at her with eyes full of passion.

“I am Vera Grimer Chief Auctioneer of the Grimer auction house. It is my honour to receive everyone today. This auction shall be organised as per past events!” Vera wearing a lovely expression, spoke with an angelic voice. With her charm and poise, she easily drove the auction into a frenzy.

Vera smiled as she eyed the dense mass of heads in the auction ground. As a very experienced auctioneer who worked at her father’s place for years, she knew what she needed to do to rile the audience up.

Watching the vixen rile the audience up, Nora couldn’t help but think. With her charming the males, and Harry charming the females, it’s no wonder the Grimer auction house is doing so well. Both of them are extremely good at bewitching people.

“Now, please allow me to present the first item of this month’s auction, a sword found from a treasure chest on the fifth floor of the Arendal dungeon!” Verat announced loudly, lifting the gauze from the tray behind her at the same time. An eye-piercing, intense light erupted from the crystal platform. It was a long while later before the intense light disappeared. On the auction platform, there was a longsword which was entirely blue, reflecting a thick, cold luster as the light reflected off of it.

“This epic ranked sword is molded from cold metal, and is said to be able to cut iron like it’s wood. Moreover, it has an ice affinity. Any warrior who uses an ice elemental skill with this sword will most definitely have their strength increased. Powerful weapons are something that one must bring when going out. If anyone is interested, do not be reluctant. Gold may be precious, but one needs life to enjoy it, right? Ke ke.” Vera held the blue longsword in her hand. The body of the sword trembled, and a faint, cold air rose, forming an indistinct white fog that was partially visible. She turned her head toward the auction ground, and smiled as she said, “The base price is 100 gold with 10 gold increments.”

“Hmm, a weapon with ice affinity, huh…” Nora muttered as she eyed the longsword. However, she was not that interested in it. Though it had an ice element affinity which would work wonders with the snowdrop sword technique, the shape of the sword was not suitable for it.

As someone who practices snowdrop sword technique, she was already accustomed to using a blade. It would be foolish of her to change her fighting style. Using a narrow and elegant longsword was very different compared to using a short curved blade. Therefore, she did not have any intention of participating in the bidding for this item. From what she heard from Evelyn about auctions, she knew that the good things came at the end.

Of course, Nora’s lack of interest did not mean that the other people would not be interested. Immediately after Vera’s words fell, quite a number of bidding sounds repeatedly rang out through the auction ground. For warriors above the C rank, weapons with elemental affinity were extremely enticing.

Unlike mages who were able to use elemental spells right from the beginning, warriors were handicapped to only being able to use their element after C rank. Only after a warrior reached B rank, would he or she be able to use the forces of nature to empower themselves.

Thus, for B ranks and above warriors, weapons with elemental affinity were much needed equipment.

The first bidding persisted for a couple of minutes before the sword was successfully auctioned off to a tall muscular man with an excited face for 240 gold.

After the first auction proceeded successfully, various different treasures, weapons, armors, potions, spells, rare materials, and many more that caused people’s eyes to be dazzled, began to appear on the auction platform. Even some of Nora’s enchanted items were brought up to stage, earning her quite a large amount of gold.

Though most of her items were of common and rare rank, due to the fact that they were enchanted, it increased their rank to epic, gathering a lot of attention. Just a simple steel sword with sharpness enchantment earned her around a hundred gold.

As more and more were sold, the atmosphere became quite heated under the enticing allure of Vera. One by one, a flurry of items were sold to excited buyers. However, the people who were bidding were merely those sitting below. The VIPs, who possessed a great amount of wealth, sat silently in the upper booths, not making a single bid up. This lasted until…

“The next item is… the Blue Crystal Sand!” Vera spoke loudly, “There are only 150 grams of the Blue Crystal Sand… but we all know of its wonderfulness! This Blue Crystal Sand was found on the 6th floor of the dungeon by a group of A rank adventurers. I think that there are quite a number of people who have heard of its name. It is able to turn an epic ranked weapon into a mythic ranked one! When the Blue Crystal Sand, and the material of the weapon are mixed together, it produces a wonderful reaction.”

“Okay now that we know about its uses, the base price will be 500 gold with 50 gold increments.”

As Vera’s described the effects, countless people stared at the bottle of blue sand with boiling hot eyes.

“1 white gold!” Immediately after she finished her sentence, a loud voice immediately rang out from a booth above.

Instantly, a commotion immediately broke out on the auction ground. For a person to bid 1000 gold immediately was quite a surprise for many. A cacophony of voices rang out as hush whispers filled the room. Many wondered who was so daring enough to immediately bid such a large amount of gold.
