Chapter 12 : Problems, problems, problems

Chapter 12 : Problems, problems, problems

“Sir! It’s an honour to have you here!” The head overseer, Kendal, bowed his head in respect.

“Does anyone know what’s going to happen today?” The Sir nodded his head and asked.

“No sir! No one here is smart enough to understand what your genius and meticulously thought out plans are, sir!” Kendal flattered excessively.

“Good, today the upper managements wants everything here gone, all evidence are to be burned and all witnesses killed! Is that clear?”

“Yes sir! Ermm.. Sir, when you mean all witnesses are to be kill…”

“Yes, i mean all witnesses, i want you to kill all the overseers as well.”

“What! Sir, you mean me too?” Kendal started sweating bullets.

“Yes, you too. However, i’m feeling a little kind today, if you can do your job well and get everything done by today, i’ll allow you to live.”

Realising the implications, Kendal started panicking. Mustering all his strength, he began to ran back to base, quickly trying to finish the task that he was just given. If he wanted to live, he had to finish it all by today. There was no way he had any chances to live otherwise.

The Sir was too strong for him and could easily take him out in a second. Unlike the other overseer, he had some inkling of knowledge about how strong Sir truly was. He had been there when the Sir first came to clean up the island. He had witness how easily Sir slaughter them. From shooting rock bullets to crushing them under a giant rock, the Sir had destroyed all threats on the island.

Even if he did not saw any of that and did not know how powerful the Sir truly was, he knew that just by looking at the silver emblem on the Sir’s chest, he was no match for him.

The silver emblem with a wand implied that the Sir was a mage with a silver ranking. In this world there were many kinds of ranking used to judge people’s strengths. The two most prominent and most used were the adventuring guild rankings and the mage colour rankings.

First was the adventuring guild rankings, which ranked people by letters. The lowest was rank F while the highest was rank SSS. The initial rankings were determined by a ranking stone which evaluates the mana pool size of an adventurer. After the initial ranking was determined by the ranking stone, the adventurer could rise it by doing some missions. The ranking stone was used to determine the adventurer base strength somewhat accurately.

After the adventuring guild determine the person’s strength, he or she would be sent to do 3 missions around his ranking. The person would be sent to complete a mission one rank below his, then a mission at his rank and then a mission above his rank. After the three missions were completed, the guild would reevaluate the adventurer’s rankings based on his or her performances in the three missions. This was to accurately judge an adventurer ranking with minimum time and amounts of casualties.

After the adventurer’s ranking was evaluated, the adventurer could only climb to another rank only after successfully completing 10 missions of his rank in a row. Thus, with this system, time would not be wasted for a strong adventurers who wished to climb as high as possible and there would not be over eager adventurers rushing to their death by trying to challenge a higher ranking mission.

As for the second ranking, it was the colour ranking for mages. It was ranked by the mages association by evaluating how much mana a mage had and how effectively he or she could use it. The rankings had three tiers, bronze, silver and gold. Each tier had 3 levels which was represented by the number of wands on the emblem. Thus this meant that the Sir’s ranking was silver one.

The reason why this ranking was only used for mages was because of mages had higher mana pools than warriors but required more mana to fight. Thus, the ranking stone test would be highly inaccurate in displaying their initial strength compared to other occupations. Moreover, there were many mages who did not know how to fight effectively. There were countless cases of mages spending their whole life in their research. They would try to improve their mana pool to research harder tasks but they would not learn how to fight.

Thus, the mage colour rankings system was created by the mages association. The mages association would evaluate each mage fighting capabilities individually. Although the rankings of the mage colour ranking system and adventuring guild ranking system coincided, the eccentric mages of the mages association did not wanted to copy their rankings and thus made a new name for their own.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Thus, Kendal knew that the Sir could easily crush him if he wanted to. Sir was a silver one, which was equivalent to a C rank while he was below E rank. Even though Kendal had enough mana to be at the E rank, his fighting capabilities were weak and could be considered a F rank.

Thus Kendal ran with all his might to finish his task. With how strong Sir was, there was no where he could hide on the island.

Seeing the frantic bald man running in fear to accomplish his task, the Sir couldn't help but laugh maniacally while following him. You fool! Do you really think i’ll spare you? When you’re done doing my job for me, i’ll just kill you to be done with this boring task.

…..

Back in the overseers building, Nora slowly woke up from her slumber. The loud howling of wolves had woken her up after the duration of the wards ended.

Slowly stretching and rolling around on the bed, Nora reluctantly got off the bed. It had been a long long time since she had a good night sleep. Nora was unwilling to get off bed so early in the morning, but she had no choice. She needed to take care of the wolves before they started causing a ruckus and somehow got out of the pen. It would have been troublesome if they got out.

After getting out of bed, Nora decided to plan for the future and raised a few undeads to do some house cleaning. Finding a headless body a few meters away from the door of the room she was sleeping in, Nora casted the level 60 spell, ‘Raised Undead’. Nora had a few spells which could raise the dead. Some made the undead stronger, some gave them intelligence while some gave them the ability to use spells. However, Nora only had enough mana to cast and sustain the weakest one.

The headless body slowly rose up and stood in front of Nora. The body wase pale white from the lack of blood. It mindlessly stood there, motionless, waiting for it’s master to command it. Since it was just the weakest undead revival spell, it had no intelligence or thought. All it could do was follow simple orders.

“Search the building and collect all the silver and gold coins you find,” Nora ordered. Nora was too lazy to search herself and in the future she would need money to basic necessities. Thus she had raised an undead to do the bothersome task for her while she go deal with the wolves and children.

Walking around the house and raising a few more undeads, Nora soon revived 5 undeads to search the building. She could only raised 5 and less as she did not have enough mana to be able sustain more. Since she was still weak and had relatively a small mana pool, she could only sustain 5 undeads for about an hour before she ran out of mana. She could have consumed some souls to be able to sustain more, but Nora felt it would be a waste and decided against that. Thus, done with raising the dead, Nora was ready to head out.

However, just as Nora was about to leave the house, Nora realised a problem. She did not know what to do with the children.

It would be troublesome for me to take care of them. What am I supposed to do with them anyway? There’s no way i can leave them here and if i am to bring them out of this island, how would they survive? They don’t know how the world work and don’t have any skills to help them survive. Moreover, i can’t look after them. It would take too much time and i’m too weak to look after them right now. Sigh this is quite problematic. Should i just them give them a mercy kill?

Nora did not know what to do with them. Tried as she might, she could not think of the answer. Roughing her hair in frustration, Nora decided to leave and shut the wolves up. The everlasting howls was beginning to get on her nerves.

However, just as she was about to leave building through the front door, she noticed someone through the window.

Running along the dirt path was a middle age man with a bald head. His completely bald head shined with sweat as the early morning sun slowly rose. The short sword clattered around his belt and leg as he sped down the path. It was the head overseer.

Seeing the glowing level indicator above his head, Nora finally remembered what she had missed last night. Last night, she was too immersed in her slaughter that she had completely forgotten that the head overseer had even existed.

Oh yeah, now that i think about it, the head overseer did exist. I wonder where he was last night. Ah oh well, free exp. Maybe he’ll put up a fight.

Drawing her sword, Nora hid behind the door, waiting for him to burst through. As if she was the final boss awaiting the hero, she patiently waited for the head overseer to open the door.

However, that did not happen. A loud screamed notified her of the problem. “Ahhh! Dark practitioner!”

Glancing through the window to see what the problem was, Nora realised that the head overseer was running back to where he came from. The head overseer had saw one of headless undead that was outside and had grown scared, running away.

Furrowing her brows at the thought of having to chase him, Nora couldn’t help but angrily sigh. Seriously? Are you that weak? It’s just a weak and low level zombie without a head, even a farmer can kill it.

However, what Nora did not know was that the times have changed. A long time had passed since she died and many things had changed. In the olden times, it was quite normal to see necromancers and undeads.

However, many years had past and the usual from before was now very rare. Due to her actions as a death lord which almost caused the whole world to be turned into the land of the dead. Many rules were implemented after her death. Anything to do with the research or meddling with the dead was outlawed and anyone who violated those rules were mercilessly hunted down. Almost all necromancers in the world were killed and driven back into the no man’s land. The only living necromancers left alive were all in the no man’s land.

This was the reason why as soon as the head overseer saw the zombie, he became frightened out of his mind and had ran back to the Sir.

However, since Nora did not know this, she was quite confused as to why the head overseer suddenly ran away.

Leaving the building, Nora began to chase him down. A bit pissed off at having to chase him down, Nora sped up her pace and used ‘soul sight’.

Just as fast as her anger rose, it suddenly plummeted and the feeling of despair rose. On her ‘soul sight’ vision, there were two souls. A small and fast moving soul which belonged to the head overseer and a medium sized soul which was full of mana.

Seeing the level of the medium size soul, Nora couldn’t help but complain before turning around and running as fast as she could towards the west side of the island.

Dammit! Why the fuck is this guy here so early? Wasn’t the ship supposed to be here a few days from now? Dammit why is today so full of problems! I just woke up less than an hour ago and i have faced so many troublesome problems. Dammit! I can’t fight him, i’m too weak right now. I need to run or find a better place to fight.
