Even though she took her time and groomed herself extra carefully the man was still not out yet. She wondered at what he could be doing for so very long.
Inhaling, she smelled nothing that would give her a clue. Sighing she had to admit her face still hurt and she didn’t really want to try the door knob again perhaps once she was 100%. What could she do instead to get his attention?
Thinking she remembered a time before this in which, the one who must not be named, had gotten mad. Demon had been only a kitten then. But, she remembered being in front of a door and wanting entry. She had scratched the door. Over and over and over. So much in fact that her claws created deep grooves into the door.
The door would open, but never to let her in.
Never that.
But it had opened.
Demon blinked and turned her mind away from the dark memories of the past. Instead she stood stretched her front paws forward and her tail high in the air. Standing straight she sat back down in front of the door and flexing her claws began to scratch.
Scratch, scratch, scratch. “Meow.”

Scratch, scratch, scratch. “Meow.”
Scratch, scratch, scratch. “Meow!” she repeated it until finally, finally she heard noise.
A footstep another, a yelp and a crash!
“Meow?” In confusion Demon paused in her scratching. Before scratching in earnest. Excited that the man seemed to have finally heard her, she lifted both paws and began to scratch frantically at the door.
Scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch!
Stopping to listen, she realized she heard nothing.
Why wasn’t the man coming anymore?
Didn't he hear her?
Maybe if she scratched harder.
Flexing her claws she dug deep into the door and pulled down hard making sure that her claws pulled rivets of wood along with them.
Screech, Screech, Screech.
This time for sure the man would come and open the door. But when she paused again she heard nothing. What was he doing in there?
If only she could see inside.
Looking up she could only see the door. Brown and tall with no gap to be found. She looked to the side but only found brown walls. Looking down at the pile of wood shavings she realized for the first time that light covered her paws.
