Lost Cause

‘TOUCHDOWN, what a beautiful run from the New Gate Full-back, the rising star that I heard would soon burst unto the grand stage, who has been steadily climbing through the ranks burst forth with an amazing run just after tackling the opposing team as he passed the ball to the hooker who then gives him a long pass that he catches quite professionally as he dashes for the line under the pressure of four opposing players bigger than him he makes the dive and seals the game for New Gate high, what a lad, what a game”

“Well, I am sure that Naiad is destined for greater heights in the game if he chooses to follow a career in this sport…” The commentators spoke vastly about the game with the last winning run of the game made by Naiad the referee blew his whistle as the team rejoiced:

“Come on man be happier you made this possible for us,” a teammate said as he tapped Naiad out of his thoughts, not many people were present in the audience as being just a high school game only interested parents would show up, leaving just about twenty people in the audience. Naiad stood as he scanned the audience with a disappointed expression: ‘Was I really thinking he would keep his word, humph, what a joke’ he thought inwardly as he stormed out off the pitch. Seeing him, one would assume that he was on the losing side not even having the slightest idea about what would happen.

‘I was just trying to believe that there was still something left in there for me but, I am proven wrong yet again. It was because of him I started taking my fitness seriously, it was all because of him I took to rugby, so I don’t ever have to need his help again, yet why do I feel this need for his acknowledgment’ he said as water ran down his body hiding the tears on his face. He wasn’t a really social person as everyone knew this, for some reason, he turned colder as the years passed not even bulging to the slightest bit of emotion, as he felt betrayed by the one and the only person he looked up to on that very night.

“Hey Naiad, nice game today, your run was superb, let’s not even talk about the technique in that throw for the pass and then the way you carried those four brutes across the line, you were simply magnificent man” a hyperactive boy came as he threw his hands around Naiad as they spoke with Naiad just simply nodding as they walked to acknowledge his companion.

After walking out of the building and looking off into the distance he saw a red car drive in and park, it didn’t catch his attention at first as he wanted to continue going as the person in the driver’s seat stepped out making him freeze in his tracks, making a small smile to crack on his lips: ‘Perhaps the tremor did…’ he was just about to think up an excuse when he saw three good looking girls step out from the car as well as the smile that was growing froze, he watched as the person hugged the first two girls giving them a light kiss as his smile returned back to his face as a frown. On reaching the third girl to give her a hug their eyes met. Seeing him push the girl aside and begin approaching as he shouted his name;

“Naiad wait”

he turned and began to walk: “Uhm Naiad, do you perhaps know him,” his friend asked, as they turned to enter the bus “Nope I have not a clue,” he said as he shook his head and took a seat inside the tinted bus and placed his headset on.

“DAMN IT” Maxwell groaned as he saw his brother disappear inside the bus with no way to reach him unless he forced his way into the bus which was out of the option as it was crowded by many students, girls include, he could only withdraw his arm as he looked as the bus whose engine had begun to rave drive off to their main academy ground.

A Day had passed fully as the tension between both brothers had reached an extreme point that it could be felt by any visitor: “Uhm so you are trying to tell me that there’s nothing you can do anymore to salvage the situation” Mike’s voice came out of the phone on the bed as Maxwell laid on his back throwing a ball up and catching it again, “nope nothing at all can be done, I have told you this many time already Mike, right now he won’t even bother to eat the food I prepare anymore” Maxwell said as he caught the ball one more time and turned around to look at the setting sun.

“Look, Mike, the rift between us at the moment is too wide that words cannot solve it”

“Maybe, that is it, he doesn’t want any more words he wants action, maybe he wants to see his big brother back”

“I don’t understand, I am still here”

“Are you really though, your childish ambition might have changed you in a way that hits him negatively, try and make up with that for starters…” Mike was still talking when Maxwell hushed him:

“Shhh, for starter, my ambitions are not childish but gentlemanly, and secondly I still don’t see how it would affect him, you know what this discussion had dragged on for long enough, I need to sleep” BEEP, he cut the call before Mike could even utter a single word as he took his pillow and covered his ears: “I am sorry bro” a soft muffled sound could be heard coming out from under the pillow as Maxwell covered his face for some time before bringing his head out of the pillow once again as he threw the ball up and down, whilst he opened his Snap Chat.
