Chapter 3

I looked behind me again and I saw the figure standing next to the big oak tree outside the canteen. I grabbed my bags and rushed out the door to follow the figure. I could hear Terrence calling for me to come back but I didn't listen to him, I just kept running. Once I was outside I couldn't see the figure again, I spun in a circle trying to find them and that's when I noticed them standing by the front gate. I rushed towards the gate and when I got there the figure was across the road. My mind went blank. I couldn't hear anything. All I could think of was this figure standing a few feet away from me. I felt drawn to them like they were the only person I needed, but I didn't know who they were. I took a step out into the road, my eyes never left the figure and what they were doing. I didn't want to lose them again. As I got closer I could make out some facial features and their build. I realized it was a guy about the same age as me but he looked different like he wasn't human.

The guy spoke in a simple yet calm manner. “See you soon.” he disappeared.

And that's when I snapped back into reality. But at that point, it was too late. I heard the screeching of brakes and the skids of tires on the tarmac and that's when everything went black.

I had so many questions.

“Where am I?”

“What’s happening?”

“Am I alive?”

All I could see was darkness. Until I started to see images in front of me, moving pictures of my life, I realized I was seeing my life flash before my eyes. After what felt like an eternity I opened my eyes, however, I wasn't lying on the road, I was under a large wisteria tree.

The leaves cascaded over me like a waterfall and the sun shone through the leaves. It made my surroundings look like they were glistening.

I tried to sit up but all I felt was a pain in my lower back and legs. I started to remember what happened. The figure, being hit by a car, I could even still hear the screeching from the tires. I buried my head in my hands and I just laid there and cried, I was scared. I didn't know where I was. I was scared and in a lot of pain. I felt the wind blow through the cascading leaves and the cool air suddenly gave me this feeling of hope and relief. In that small moment, I heard some rustling and twigs snapping from behind me, I slowly turned around and out of the bushes behind me, a small wolf pup emerged. His fur was as black as the void, white specks sparkling against the black as though they were stars. He began to sniff the air around me and as his piercing blue eyes met mine, he started to approach me. I put out my right hand, my palm facing his face and I closed my eyes. I felt his soft fur against my skin and it was so satisfying to touch. All of a sudden, the wolf pup looked to the right of us and I could hear shouting coming in this direction. I could hear horse hooves galloping across the grass.

The wolf pup turned and ran as the voices got closer and I could hear the sounds of metal clanging against each other, the voices got closer and that's when I realized they were heading towards me. I looked down and I was completely naked. How the hell did I not realize this sooner? But it was too late.

“Over here I found something” a manly voice spoke,

“Oh it's just a girl, and she has no clothes on.” another man spoke with a cheeky smirk on his face.

The first man glared at the second and as he got off his horse, he grabbed a long piece of fabric off of the back of his horse and he placed it around my shoulders.

“Here missy, use this to cover up. May I ask how you got in this state?” he stood in front of me looking down.
