Chapter 2

I only had one more lesson after lunch which was science for me, I didn't mind science but it wasn't one of my favourite lessons. The last hour went by and we learnt about animal biology and how the cow's digestive system worked. The college specialises in Animal Care, but not everyone chose to learn about it, however, what didn't we didn’t learn here got taught in normal lessons which I didn't mind.

After the lesson, I grabbed my things and headed out. Today was the day that Terrance had to stay back late as he was helping another student with a project.

I put my earphones in and started listening to one of my favourite songs, ‘Water fountain by alec benjamin’.

The walk back wasn't that bad, the sun was shining and the town was fairly quiet. When I got to my house, I opened the door and yelled

“I'm back!”

But as usual, the house was completely empty as my mum was at work. I grabbed myself a small snack that consisted of a packet of cheese puffs and a chocolate bar and made my way up to my room. I studied until around 6 pm and then went down to start dinner. I knew my mum wouldn't be back until at least 6:30 pm and we didn't have any pets, so I haven’t got them to worry about. Tonight I decided to make spaghetti bolognese which was one of mine and my mum's favourites. I started by putting the beef mince into brown and chopped up some peppers, mushrooms and garlic to put in. I finished making the bolognese and then put the water on to boil for the pasta, at this point, I heard my mum’s car pull up into the drive. I put the kettle on and made her a cup of tea as she walked through the door with a smile and spoke in a soft voice.

“How was your day sweetie?” I replied with a simple “It was okay, not much to tell.”

Mum knew that those words meant I didn't want to talk about it, so she shrugged it off and went to get out of her work clothes and into some pyjamas. Mum works as a lawyer so she probably had a really hard day. I finished making dinner and went to set the table. I placed her cuppa on a place mat on the dinner table and arranged her cutlery as well. Once she was back downstairs, I placed our dinners on the table and grated some cheese on top of them, there's nothing better than melted cheese and pasta in my opinion.

After dinner, we sat and watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and then I went up to bed to watch some Youtube before falling asleep. Me and mum never really spoke much, it's been like that since dad died so quiet evenings were normal.

At about 11 pm I switched my tv off and went to bed. I woke up around 4 am from a nightmare, the dreams were always the same. It was always about the day dad died and getting the phone call from mum.

I went downstairs to grab myself a drink, and I could have sworn, out of the corner of my eye I saw a person standing in the hallway. I switched the light on but no one was there, typical. I made my way back up to the bed and before I knew it morning was here. I got ready for college as quietly as I could so as to not wake up mum. I adorned a black gothic skater dress and my platform shoes, I grabbed my bag and set off for school.

As I walked to school I put my earphones in and started listening to music. One of my other favorite songs came on “The Devil Doesn't Bargain” by Alec Benjamin. I started to sing along as I was walking through the village alleyways when I felt the presence of someone behind me but as I turned around no one was there, I shrugged it off and kept walking my usual route to school. This took a little longer than normal due to me stopping and starting every now and then to check if I was being followed. When I got to school Terrence was already waiting for me. He asked what took me so long and I explained to him what happened from early this morning up until now. As usual, he laughed and shrugged it off, saying how I was being dramatic and that it was probably just my imagination.

The first lesson started like normal. I always have the same lessons at the same time every day as it was just easier for the teachers as we were only a small college, there were always some snarky comments from Cameron and his friends but I’m that used to it now that I just ignore him. Lunchtime came around and I still had that ominous feeling of being watched by someone, Terrance seemed to notice me being paranoid and as he tapped me on the shoulder he spoke in a soft voice,

“This has really freaked you out hasn't it?”

I smiled nervously and nodded at him
