escape 2.0 52

Selenia felt her arm throbbing now that the adrenaline of battle had worn off, she stumbled through the mansion and found what she was looking for after dispatching several guards that were already half dead from the poisons floating in the air.

She entered an oval room lined with stone with several chimneys leading outside and the heat immediately hit her stinging her face, tools laid were the men had dropped them before they died with blood leaking from every orifice in their body.

The forges were still hot with some pieces of metal still sticking out of them being reheated, Salenia grabbed the flattest piece she could find that was red hot, then canceled her barrier and pushed her still bleeding stump onto the glowing surface, the sound of sizzling flesh was drowned out by screams of agony.

After cauterizing the wound to stop the bleeding she reactivated her shield, however, the damage had already been done, Salenia had taken a dozen or more antidotes that she made specifically for the poisons she used which were far more effective than a general antidote, but the huge amount of poisons in the air merged and combined together in ways she could not anticipate.

Every piece of exposed skin started to burn and melt before she activated her barrier again which slowed the effects of the poisons slightly and gave her time to think, outside there was likely going to be dozens of high-level mages waiting for her so she could not just exit the building, however, staying inside the building for much longer would kill her all the same.

She started to frantically search the mansion for any escape passages that nobles usually kept secret, while her eyes still worked Selenia switched through different spectrums of light until finally giving up and using the mana vision, by now she was starting to cough up blood and she was not sure whether it was caused by the poisons or the mixture her antidotes had created, nevertheless she took another general antidote anyway.

A small mana signature caught the corner of her eye surprising her because it was located inside one of the walls, it was weak and whatever it was would likely die soon, she did not have time to look for an opening as her eyes were starting to become blurry, after storing her sword she sprinted head first into the wall in front of the mana signature.

The section of wall was only made of wood and shattered sending splinters everywhere, after looking at what she found she froze for a moment, on the ground laid an unconscious woman holding a small child and even though her vision was blurring she could see the resemblance to the man she had just killed.

They were long gone and she could do nothing for them at this point so she pushed any other thoughts out of her mind that would not help her escape, the hallway was dark and her night vision was failing her, she placed her hand on the wall to feel her way and winced at having just placed the stump against a wall, she started coughing again then took her last antidote on her, Salenia never imagined anyone would need as much as she had used in the last couple minutes and hoped her body could handle it briefly before she started to stumble through the darkness away from the poisons.

The howling of wind caused Selenia to speed up her escape, now she was barely feeling the walls she just sprinted down the hallway and relied on her barrier to take any damage when she bumped into a wall occasionally.

She could smell fresh air and increased her speed slightly, the hallway finally came to a dead end so she started to feel around and found that the roof was lower than she realized, after pushing on the roof a section of wood lifted up allowing light to spill in, She blinked a couple times at the sudden light then climbed out into a small shack.

The walls were thin because she could hear the bustle of the city outside, the building was old and smelled bad, there was only the most basic furniture and she was sure that even farmers had better furniture than this house.

It was only a matter of time before the poisons cleared the mansion and they found the hole leading to this place, she knew that this was an escape tunnel for the mansions nobles to use so she looked for a stash of items one would need when they used the tunnel.

After searching for several minutes she found a hidden compartment under the bed with clothes money and fake documents stashed away, Salenia stored her armor inside her storage bag and then saw the state of her skin, there were boils all along her rough red skin, she looked like a burn victim, holding back a tear from falling she pulled on the clothing designed for commoners and poor people then put an even poorer quality cloak over the top to hide her features.

Salenia left the small house after storing the stashes contents into her storage bag on the back of her waist, she would have preferred to place the obviously expensive storage bag somewhere more discrete but, if she needed her weapons quickly she needed it to be quickly accessible.

After exiting from the house she found herself in the slums of the city, poor people that could barely afford to eat milled around the area and Selenia perfectly blending into the crowd with her new attire.

Following the flow of people she watched the city guards and the people, the commoners were oblivious to anything other than a noble house was attacked, but could not care less because that was a common occurrence in this city which gave her a slight sense of relief knowing that not everyone would be looking for a suspicious person, however, the guards looked to be on high alert as they glared at anyone with even remotely good armor.

After drifting towards the gates she spotted large groups of soldiers checking the people leaving the city, one of the commoners was being searched when a soldier grabbed her arms and lifted them, after doing so he let her go and waved on the next person, chills ran down Selennias spine at how quick they started the search for her, they had already started searching everyone who left the city essentially locking her in like a caged rat.
