Chapter 60

Doing the same thing that she did with the iron, Amy did it with a couple of other types. With verglas and iron, she successfully completed a couple of the experiments where the final product matched what she wanted. When she finished all of the experiments, sf seaweed that has an appearance of a bush and he pulled up their descriptions.

Verglas Pillar Coral

A type of coral that grows in clusters upwards. This coral has verglas reinforcing the centre of the coral, making it a lot harder to break.

Silver Brain Coral

A coral species with a metallic look to it and strands of iron growing throughout the coral.

Metal Builder Coral

A type of builder coral that helps start and build coral reefs of a specific type. This builder coral will attract other species with metallic or mineral traits.

While the experiments only produced four new coral species, it was enough to start building the coral barrier.

The overall reef would be 20 metres in length and 50 metres in height. Amy knew that the barrier needed to be solid, but she worried that the reef would not be solid enough with its size and purpose without a bit of help. So, she decided to provide some help for the reef to be stable.

Amy decided that she would build ice columns about 50 centimetres in length and 40 metres in height with a couple of small shelves to promote growth that would be spaced evenly throughout the reef. As she grew the ice pillars, she added mana strings to prevent them from breaking. She hoped that they would allow the reef to grow big and strong and would enable it to serve its purpose.

Once the ice pillars were completed, Amy went to work designing the reef. First, the builder's corals were settled on the sand floor and on the ice shelves. Once the builder corals were in place, she selected the sturdier species and the new metal corals and placed them throughout the reef barrier. After everything was set up, Amy inserted a lot of mana strings and started growing the reef.

As the reef continued to grow and expand due to the increase of growth speed she was pushing, she stopped the growth when it was about two-thirds away from being grown. When she stopped the growth, Amy added all of the other types of coral throughout the reef. Once all of the corals were placed, she added more mana strings and continued their growth.

She watched as the corals intertwined together and really grew enough that it made it look like it was a coral reef. The only thing that she did was force the corals at the top of the reef to grow out of the water. With her adaptation affinity, this should force the corals to be able to grow out of the water. However, the coral's growth out of the water was slowed to a little bit above their average growth. In contrast, the corals underwater had a strict area of growth that they could not cross.

Unlike her previous coral reefs, Amy was not going to add any plants to them. This is because the reef was not technically an environment. It was more meant to be a barrier, so she decided not to put any plants in or around its growth area.

With the swamp environment and the coral barrier built, Amy turned to the outer section.

She already knew what she wanted to do with the trench environment. Most of that floor was very dark, too dark to see in with human eyes, which gave her an advantage as Amy already knew that she wanted to use creatures and monsters that she had collected from the trench.

She wanted this environment to look dangerous and hold mysteries. One of the ways to do this was to have creatures and plants that have bioluminescence of some kind or shine. So she gathered some species of kelp and seaweed that would best suit the floor and could be experimented on to better suit the floor.

Amy could only gather five kelp and seaweed species to use on the floor. These species were radiance kelp, icey kelp, glowing kelp, blood icey kelp, and leafy seaweed. What she decided to use to gain the traits that she wanted was the transference of characteristics of both types to each other. This would allow her to have a greater potential for new species and new adaptations.

After some experimentation, just a couple of the combinations she had tried were radiance kelp and leafy seaweed, glowing kelp and blood icey kelp, blood icey kelp and leafy seaweed, etcetera. These combinations allowed her to gain five new seaweed and kelp species. With the experimentation finished, she pulled up the descriptions.

Bush Seaweed

A species of seaweed that has an appearance of a bush and with a slight bioluminescence along its base.

Blood Kelp

A type of moving kelp that feeds on the parts that make up blood and will move around to areas where blood is frequently found.

Knotting Seaweed

A species of seaweed that will try to hold onto and tangle living beings that pass by it.

Hypnotic Bush

A type of grouping of kelp that creates patterns with bioluminescence on its leaves to draw in prey to allow the plant to strike.

Carpet Kelp

A species of highly aggressive plant that will drive out any competition to nutrients in the area.

The new species of plants worked well in the trench environment that she wanted. So along with the radiance kelp, icey kelp, glowing kelp, blood icey kelp, and leafy seaweed, Amy planted and placed them strategically along the outer area. The smaller plants were placed on the upper half of the water depth, while the larger plants that could grow really big were placed on the lower half of the water depth.

With the plants placed, Amy inserted mana strings and pushed their accelerated growth to the point where she was happy with the growth on the floor.

As she looked over the floor, she saw a diverse floor in the floor environments. Much more than any of her previous floors. The swamp looked and had the appearance of a swamp, the coral barrier separated the two environments. The trench environment brought out a hidden danger of not seeing what was lurking under the water.

It did not mean that Amy was finished with the floor, though. She still had to add the creatures and monsters, work on the island that was in the trench environment, improve the core reef and the sodden salamander, and add the third-floor boss monster before she potentially injures her core.

When she was staring and listing out what was left to do, Amy noticed something coming out from the trench. What came out of the trench was not something that she had seen before.

With a sigh, Amy readied her monsters and prepared for a battle.
