Chapter 25

Amy watched as the siren, Calder, seemed to be in a state of shock, even though he had already accepted the contract.

"You … you're a dungeon … a dungeon that can talk? Oh, what have I gotten myself into" groaned Calder. "Well, it's not like I have anywhere else I can go, so I might as well ride the crazy train."

Hey, I resent that. Besides, you already agreed to the contract, so you might as well enjoy yourself and go explore the world with me.

"Well, I guess you're right. By the way, how are you a dungeon on an iceberg and I did not feel myself entering dungeon territory?"

In response, Amy opened a tunnel from the room where she healed the siren into the room that held the portal to her sub-dimension and dungeon.

Follow the tunnel, and you'll see.

The siren swam into the tunnel and went as far as he could in the water portion of the tunnel. Amy initially thought that this was going to be a problem, but it apparently wasn't for Calder. She had assumed that he wouldn't be able to move on land as he did in the water, but she was wrong. When he reached the portion of the tunnel that he couldn't swim in anymore, he changed.

From the scaly blue tail appeared two legs, the same tanned skin as the rest of his body, naked like the rest of him. In truth, if Amy was still human, she probably would have felt embarrassed or mortified from seeing his nakedness. But not now, in truth, she was more interested in his ability to shift forms.

Calder transversed the tunnel and appeared in the portal room and was once again stunned at what he saw.

"You're that old and powerful that you have a sub-dimension. I have only heard of very old dungeons having this!"

Well, aren't you going to go see what's on the other side?

With a bit of prompting by Amy, Calder finally walked through the portal and plunged into the water on the other side.

He took a couple of seconds to get used to her sub-dimension and dungeon before Amy gave him a slight push to get him moving.

Don't worry, you can explore. My monsters and animals won't bother you if you don't bother them, just be aware of your surroundings.

With that, Calder went off to explore her dungeon, and Amy waited until he did a bit of exploring before she decided to ask him questions.

Since it was in the contract, he was required to help her, and one of the questions that she wanted to ask was about this ocean, where she is, and if there was anything interesting nearby.

Hey Calder, are there any interesting things or places near here? Really, all she wanted to know was if there were any unique places that she could anchor for a while and add that environment to her dungeon. It also made her want to create a tunnel directly from the outside under the ocean's surface to her core room so that she would have more invaders and hopefully level up faster. It would also give her time to see if the sentients that she had encountered before would follow her or if she would meet new types of sentients. But that was for another day.

After taking a couple of minutes to think, Calder finally responded. "Well, if we are following the current going South, then we should go right by the Amware Trench Reef."

The Amware trench reef? What's interesting about that place? Amy wondered what about that place was interesting enough that the siren would mention it.

"It's a place where the entrance of a long-dead trench was located. Due to the ambient amount of mana, a large coral reef has formed around the entrance of the trench…"

Before Calder could finish, Amy cut him off, as there was a question that she desperately needed answering. What's a trench?

"A trench, or ocean trench, is a long narrow and deep crevasse on the ocean floor. Nobody knows why, but trenches tend to have 50 to 100 times more mana density than outside of the trench."

Isn't that a good thing?

"If it was 10 times more dense than normal, it would be fine. But once you get into 30 times more dense and up, and if you're not prepared or have a strong enough mana pool, then you could get mana burn and in severe cases death."

Mana burn?

"When the intensity and density are so much that it causes burns on the body. But that's not what makes trenches really dangerous. The mana within the trenches continuously evolves anything and everything living in it into monsters. As such, powerful monsters come out of trenches that need to be killed, and every once in a while, a wave of monsters will emerge from the trenches. B-level and up adventurer groups are sent to "kill" the trenches when this happens. By killing them, the trenches become inactive, the mana density goes down, and only D to B level monsters emerge from the dead trenches and when they do emerge, only a few do."

So basically, said Amy, who was trying to take in what Calder said, the Amware Trench Reef is a reef that surrounds and grows around a dead trench. So essentially, the reef will have monsters and new stuff evolving or being mutated by the mana from the dead trench?

"Well, sort of. Most people don't really go deep into the reef due to the reef's danger to those unaware of the danger. Only underwater adventurer teams or adventurer teams that can survive underwater for a long time ever go in there, and not so much in recent years. Or at least that was what I heard."

After what she learned, Amy knew that if she did get a chance to pass by the Amware Trench Reef, she would want to anchor down near there and see what it is about.

POV Pyter Synder

When Pyter got word from the guild master that the dungeon in the iceberg that he had staked his reputation on was gone, he … freaked out, to put it mildly. But afterwards, he moved quickly.

With some convincing, he was able to ensure cooperation with the adventurer's guild master on Ridgeleche and have some adventurer teams go looking for the iceberg dungeon. Finally, Pyter was able to get on one of the teams, and he had a plan.

He realized that the dungeon was part of an iceberg, so it must have moved with the currents of the ocean. So in order to find the dungeon again, he would need someone who understands the ocean currents.
