"That's a perfect time to talk about our one outright new team this year, then."
"A strange one, this."
"That's putting it mildly. Tenebrae, an independent team, fielding only one competitor of the allowed two. Phoebe Tenryuu, riding Soot, a lunar drake."
"Very strange."
"Well, we knew we'd see Phoebe in the Imperial League sooner or later."
"That's true."
"She rode wyverns in Carthagia for two years, like a lot of young riders, and placed second to Lyonne Ertku in 51. Then they made the jump together with Niki Coro to drakelets and she was second to Coro in 52. But she disappeared last year. Have you picked up any rumours on what she was up to, Terry?"

"Hah. Apparently she was somewhere up north taming a wild black drakelet. Very old-fashioned."
"Do you really believe this Soot is wild?"
"Well, there's no stable listed for him, and he's small, even for a lunar. Perhaps we will have to wait and see if his clutchmates try to visit him when we go to the mountains up in Ura."
"Let's hope it doesn't come to that. What should we expect from Tenebrae this year, do you think? Is Soot too small to be competitive?"
"Never underestimate a dragon for being small. I think we will see some spectacular flying from them this year. Phoebe has always been good with her mounts, I don't think I've ever seen a rider care so much for her own beast."
"She'll need to, according to the formal entry she only has two crew. Team manager Petunia Platt, and a vet called Adelie Forster. Either of those names mean anything to you?"
"Not a whisper."
"Some will say this is a foolish risk for Phoebe to be taking."
"I don't think it is Phoebe who is being the fool. She'll be fired up to compete, sure, she had her eye on the league just as much as Niki or Lyonne, but wherever she found this drake, you may be certain she will move mountains to keep him flying."
"And results?"
"That will depend on the dragon. How can we guess, at this point?"
