Thirteenth Race

DNN2

"Hello, everyone, and welcome to The Perch on DNN Sport 2, your weekly check-in for all the news and analysis on the Imperial League of Dragon Racing. I'm Sam Tinbru, and with me as always are former IL team principal Bob Anmo and two-time IL champion Tony Ellman."

"Hi."

"Good evening."

"Gentlemen, we've just come back from a dramatic weekend in Norda, and there's all sorts of things to talk about. Let's start with the championship standings – it's close at the top."

"Yeah, Lucia Aelschu's win on Sunday puts her level with Feran Andoal on sixty-five points, it's almost like hitting reset on the championship with only six races to go."

"Extraordinary stuff, and even more so, with Phoebe Tenryuu on sixty and Arden Markwe on fifty-eight, the top four are only separated by seven points. Has it ever been closer?"

"Well, Tony, I don't have that stat to hand, but to put it in perspective, after twelve races, our two championship leaders have each barely scored half the available points. I checked last year's numbers and at this point – obviously we had one less race last season, but twelve races in last year, Feran had eighty-one points, Lucia seventy-five, and Therese Ikaha was just starting to fall off with sixty-five, and no-one else was north of fifty."

"It's wide open this year for sure. If I were a betting man – and stop looking at me like that, Tony, I learned better than betting with you a long time ago – but if I were a betting man I wouldn't dare going near this championship. Immortal Emperor alone knows how the bookies are giving odds."
