Brynna
"Okay, thank you, yes, goodbye." Brynna could tell as she ended the call and looked down at Thessaly that the mermaid could tell that the news was bad. Not that Brynna would have tried to hide it, but she wished she'd had the wits about her during the call to not give it away with her face. Thessaly had been buzzing with excitement, she deserved to be let down gently.
To her charge's worried face, Brynna said, "Mynah's management." Then her grace failed her a second time in as many minutes. "I'm sorry, sweetie, they're cancelling the project."
"Cancelled?" Thessaly's eyes went wide.
"They didn't say why." A stone settled in Brynna's gut. She felt cold despite the warmth of the day. "Just that they won't be making Mynah available to work with us, effective immediately."

"That doesn't make any sense." The mermaid started to tug at one of her wristbands, as if thinking to remove it because the dance practice didn't matter now, then dropped her hands listlessly to her sides.
"Oh, sweetie, I'm sorry." Brynna put her hands on Thessaly's shoulders, pulled her into an awkward hug. The towel around her neck was damp with sweat, but Brynna didn't let it bother her. "I'm sorry. It doesn't make any sense, you're right."
She did her best to ignore the chill at the base of her spine. The exact reason might be obscure, but she could guess at the interests that might be circling Mynah Darling right now, and the frictions they might have with those around Thessaly and Phoebe Tenryuu. The power in her stirred and she stomped it back, angrily. She'd helped get Thessaly into this mess because of old man Castelloro's desire for that power. Turning to it now couldn't make anything better.
