Chapter 3: Delicious

"Become a magician" Trey asked, the idea of being a magician was something he never once considered. He always believed his life would end inside that castle.

"Yes, I can teach you to have better control of your mana. Even though, I managed to seal Yama back, the seal is weaker than it was before. You need to get stronger if you don't want to lose yourself again" Lucy turned and moved towards the exit.

Trey allowed the words 'lose yourself' to settle with him. He lost himself once and the damage he did was something he could've never imagined. He wondered what those people thought as they perished. Their fears, everything they felt weighed on him and it was heavy.

"I want to get stronger!" Trey said, his eyes burning with determination.

"That's good, you'll need to be if you want to avoid another tragedy" Lucy grabbed the handle preparing to leave.

That's when another thought popped into Trey's brain. "Do u know about Zoey's party members?" he just threw the question out there not expecting anything to come of it. Based on how Lucy spoke, she seemed to be familiar with Zoey. So maybe...

"I don't know" Lucy admitted, "I'm guessing they've left the village, otherwise they would've definitely prevented Yama's rampage." she turned to face Trey, "are you looking to chase after them?" Lucy asked with interest.

Trey was surprised, Lucy knew about them. He wondered what else she knew but he decided to let the thought drift away, instead he focused on what Lucy said.

"I'm not just going to hunt then down, I'll make them pay for what they did to me!" His eyes looked lifeless as he spoke.

Lucy couldn't help but notice the change in Trey's expression, she sighed. "If you were to go after them right now, you would surely die. If you're truly seeking revenge then that's just another reason for you to get stronger." Lucy turned around and opened the door. "You should use this time to rest, tomorrow your training will begin."

Lucy slammed the door as she left. The sound resonated with Trey's ears somehow putting him at ease. His mind was a jumbled mess, everything was happening so fast. He didn't know what to focus his mind on, it was a nice change of pace though. Things were different, he actually didn't know what tomorrow would bring. Unlike the last ten years of his life when everything was rinse and repeat.

His eyes observed the room he was In once more before they landed on his body, he somehow took it for granted at first but it was now settling in. He was wearing clothes, regular clothes with no tears or dirt. It was a regular shirt and baggy pants, quite popular among children his age but to him. These clothes were something precious, he wouldn't trade them for the world.

He leaned against his pillow, this was also another thing that was foreign to him. Sleeping in bed, covered by warm sheets. If someone told him this was the after life, he'd believe them. None of it seemed real at all. He pulled the blankets and wrapped them tightly around his figure.

Their warmth brought tears to his eyes, but he stayed strong. He had already cried too much for one day. He allowed himself to relax. For once In his entire life, he allowed his body to just breathe and sleep. Within seconds, his mind had long drifted away.

His eyes awakened after a long night of sleep. His vision was blurry but his ears were oddly sharp, considering he just woke up.

"Good morning to you sir" the voice was bold and distinct, it was a voice he never heard before. His head tiled to his right in search for the source. He sat upright fron his bed and he still couldn't believe what he saw.

A leather jacket, pants and shoes were standing infront of him. The outfit was black from top to bottom. That wasn't the issue, the issue was that the uniforn infront of him had no owner. Not only was it talking but it was dancing.

"Preety cool right" the uniform said, tap dancing looking to draw his attention.

He was dreaming. Trey convinced himself as he rubbed his eyes to get a better look.

After two minutes he realized this was reality. Unable to cope with everything he just screamed. It wasn't the coolest thing a person could do but he wanted an exit, a way out of his nightmare.

A few seconds later, Lucy came barging inside. "What's wrong?" her voice had a sense of urgency behind it.

Trey didn't say anything, he just pointed at the talking uniform. His index finger trembled as he did.

Lucy sighed. "What are you doing Garry? Stop messing with the kid."

Garry, the uniform turned to face Lucy. "I was just having a little fun."

After Garry said that, the uniform slumped to the floor. Just like that, it lost all its life. It laid there motionless.

Trey couldn't believe what he just witnessed, he blinked countless times just to make sure he wasn't dreaming.

"Well, this house is a little weird as I'm sure you've realized" Lucy said walking towards the window.

She wore a black dress once again but this time, she had a pointy black hat to go with it. Her black gloves pushed the window open welcoming the morning breeze.

"You should pick those clothes up, then your training will begin"

Trey looked at them, "you mean the ones that were dancing a moment ago?"

"Yes" Lucy answered.

Trey got out of bed and cautiously picked them up, he feared they could jump and attack him by surprise. It was better to be safe than sorry.

He finally picked them up, after being satisfied they were harmless. He wore them without an issue. Weird or not they were still clothes, clothes he never once dreamed he would wear.

The leather outfit was perfect for his thin figure and his blue eyes really popped.

Lucy turned to face him.

"Let's go" she said.

Lucy led Trey outside the room for the first time. To his surprise what he found beyond the door was preety ordinary. There were three rooms next to Trey's room and there was a kitchen and a living room. Yes the table and chairs moved by themselves but he learned to accept this as normal.

Lucy dragged him to the exit to the house before he fully examined the room. The door swung open and the wind rushed towards Trey's face. He stood at the edge of the door In shock. He expected to see the outside but was surprised to find the house was hundreds of meteres above ground, the wind alone was intense.

Lucy grabbed his arm "hold on tight okay?" She advised, before she jumped off the house dragging Trey with her as they descended rapidly.

Trey didn't know what to do other than scream, they were going to die. There was no way they were surviving a fall from such a height. The wind blew on his face but even as they fell to their doom, he couldn't help but notice Lucy's fearless eyes. Those eyes alone made him at ease. They were going to live.

Sure enough they two crashed to the ground, surprisingly Trey found himself unhurt. A cloud of dark mana was swirling around his figure and it broke his fall. He turned to Lucy who loomed over him, his eyes full of admiration.

"Get up, let's begin" Lucy walked away as she spoke.

Trey got up, he landed with his butt, so he couldn't help but rub it despite not feeling any pain.

When he got to his feet that's when he finally got to take a moment to just look around in awe. What surrounded him was sprawling trees that seemed to climb into the heavens. Trey couldn't even see the top, that's when it hit him. All this time he had been living on top of a gigantic tree, it was unbelievable.

The trees were thick and sturdy, they released a beautiful scent similar to honey which made breathing a delight. Although the scent was sweet, the trees were not.

They were surrounded by a black cloud, infact the trees as big as they were created some sort of black forest. There was very little light you'd think it was nighttime already.

The surface was gold sand which spanned the distance, going deeper into the woods. Sounds of otherworldly creatures echoed the forest, it all seemed surreal. To Trey whose never once experienced the outside, he felt free. For once he could stretch his limbs as much as he wanted, the smile on his face betrayed his intent to hide his joy.

He wanted to explore it, he wanted to find out what laid just beyond the forest but that's when he heard a familiar voice.

"Snap out of kid, you're not here to daydream. This is training. So what type of magician are you" Lucy asked, her voice as serious as ever.

Trey was brought back to focus. For a second, he nearly forgot the reason behind the training. "I'm a warrior type" he responded, his voice serious.

"Warrior.." Lucy looked to be in deep thought before she continued, "considering you are Zoey's son I thought you'd be a healer as well."

Lucy snapped her fingers and another swirling cloud of darkness appeared before her feet. In the depths of said darkness, he found a skeleton hand reaching out, the skeleton held a sword, which she took.

The sword, was still sheathed and Zoey tossed it at Trey's feet. Just like that, the dark cloud disappeared like it never existed.

Trey bowed to pick up the blade, it was light unlike the heavy sword Zoey made him carry, he pulled the blade out and its brilliant shine almost blinded his eyes. The sword, had specific invisible writings on it. Trey couldn't really make up what the writings were. He examined the blade, it didn't feel too long or too short it felt just right.

"That blade, is a D ranked blade, better than E rank but it's still just garbage" Lucy spoke again, dragging Trey back to reality.

Trey couldn't hide his disappointment upon hearing that. If it was D rank, the blade was far from S or even A rank.

Lucy stretched out her hand and from the depths of the forest her prized staff came rushing into her palms. Almost as if sensing its wielder.

She grabbed it with her right hand and pointed it towards Trey, it was a thin staff, black in colour nothing about it stood out. It looked more like a regular stick than anything.

"Let's start with the basics, come attack me. With all your might, let's see just how much Zoey taught you"

Trey didn't wait for a second invitation. His red mana erupted into life and it cloaked his body. In a swift dash he disappeared.

His body flickered left, then right it was hard to keep track off but Zoey kept up just fine.

Trey descended from above Zoey, he brought down his blade in a decisive and swift slash.

Lucy raised her staff in response and the two weapons clashed, despite the force generated by Trey, Lucy didn't seem to move from her spot. She instead just swung her staff, this act alone sent Trey flying across the field. His body clattered against one of trees and blood leaked from his mouth.

"That's not how you attack" Lucy stated, as she watched Trey drag himself to his feet.

"You're spending too much mana and it's slowing your movement" Lucy strode foward.

In a flash, her figure was in front of Trey her staff already in motion. It smashed against Trey's stomach forcing him to double over.

Trey then fell to his knees. He couldn't breath, the strike knocked all the wind he had.

"You should focus your mana on specific sections of your body. A warrior with a weak and slow body is destined for death"

Lucy stepped back creating distance between her and Trey once more, "I get you're still young and most kids your age don't even have access to mana, but you have to do better"

Trey found his feet again after a few seconds, it was easy for Lucy to talk she was a beast but for Trey, what she said sounded difficult. Still though he was willing to try it.

"Listen, mana is a key aspect of power for every magician, we all use it differently. Healers use it for several different things such as healing and creating barriers. Mages use it to create their elemental abilities and Transformers can even morph into beasts. It all comes down to how you use it, for warriors it comes from their own physical strength and the strength of their weapons. "

Lucy pointed her staff at Trey, "Let your mana flow throughout your body freely and only then can you truly focus it."

Trey nodded as he closed his eyes, he tried to envision his mana running freely throughout his body like a river and to his credit it did, it cloaked his body in a red light.

"That's good, now try to focus it on a specific part of your body like your legs."

Trey did as Lucy suggested and felt his muscles budge in excitement. They felt sturdy and in control the energy around them was too much to even measure.

Feeling a spring on his legs, Trey rocketed foward. His movements were a blur and even gave Lucy some trouble.

Trey appeard infront of her and swung the blade horizontally.

Lucy ducked, and the blade graced her hair. She then sent a punch deep into Trey's stomach and sent him skidding backwards. The punch felt like punching pillow, Trey's stomach was that soft.

"Good, but you need to be able to shift your mana quicker, transition from your legs to any part of your body faster. That's the key to a solid attack"

The two went at it for several hours without a break and after a few more hours Trey finally got the hang of it.

He panted on the ground unable to catch his breath.

"I did it!" he shouted in exhaustion.

"Yes but that's just the basics, we still need to do something with your mana" Lucy said, standing above the sweaty Trey.

"What do you mean do something?"

"We have to get rid of the Demon King's Mana inside of you."

"Get rid of it?" Trey questioned, not understanding what Lucy meant.

"Don't worry about it right now, you've earned yourself a break."

Lucy dropped Trey a piece of bread. "You should eat something to recover your Mana, it's just bread because I won't cook anything untill training is done"

Lucy walked towards to a tree further away from Trey "enjoy it kid. You worked hard today, good job."

Trey's eyes got watery, never in his life had someone said good job to him. It was such a simple thing but he couldn't help but smile.

He sat up and unwrapped the piece of paper around Lucy's bread. He sunk his teeth into it. It was warm and it melted in his mouth. The taste alone made him break down. He couldn't believe he was eating real food.

"It's delicious" he said, with tears streaming down his cheeks. They just didn't stop flowing.

For a moment, it was just him and the sweet taste of bread.
