Chapter 11: A fierce battle

It stood infront of Krey's giant dome. Its wings flapped fiercely showcasing its intent to move. Flapping its wings produced a gust of wind that threatened to blow away everything in its path.

"A dragon type Mana Beasts.." Jerry still could not believe his eyes.

"They call Dragon type Mana Beasts the Devil's children. Even though the guardian of Krey is only a baby Dragon. Its power is far grater than even a grade 4 Mana Beast. Out of all the different types of Mana Beasts that exist, the dragons are the strongest."

Jerry was correct. There were essentially different types of Manna Beasts. Each Mana Beast belonged to a certain type based on its physical appearance and inherent magical abilities. Among those different types, dragons were on a league all on their own.

Krey's Guardian released a mighty roar that sent tremors to the ground below. Its saliva dripped as its giant mouth sprang to life. It was clear that the Guardian was hungry and it had just found its next meal.

"We can't sit around and let that thing, pounce on us. I'll take it from above you attack it from below Akira." Trey gave his orders before he rocketed foward in a mad dash.

Trey didn't like the idea of relying on someone else to help, but he was also no idiot. He knew very well that if he decided to take on the Guardian by himself. Death was certain.

His figure became blur as his cloak billowed In the wind. With a single leap Trey took to the heavens. Dark mana exuded his entire figure as he looked down on the Guardian below him.

Akira did not fall behind, both her legs and arms had partially taken the form of a Mana Beast. They were both covered in golden fur. This enhanced her movement drastically. She launched herself towards the Guardian and her claws glinted under the moonlight as she attempted to attack the Guardian as well.

Both Akira and Trey tried to time their attacks perfectly. Trey launched a crescent shaped slash from above, and Akira released a powerful slash with her claws looking to rip open the Guardian's belly and chest.

Anticipating their attacks the Guardian flapped its wings violently and almost as if it had the wind under its spell, a giant tornado consumed its form. All the attacks sent its way could not even penetrate its mighty defense.

The Guardian launched itself to the sky after this, it met Trey's descending figure midair and its gaping jaw opened inviting Trey to his death.

Moments before the Guardian could snap its mouth closed, Trey pointed his blade towards the Guardian and from its tip a giant blast of mana was fired from it. The blast made contact with the Guardian's open mouth and a point blank explosion almost destroyed its tongue.

This forced the Guardian to shut its mouth, using the opening Trey landed just in between its eyes. Trey looked to stab his blade into one of its eyes, but the Guardian had other plans.

Using its head the Guardian smashed its face against the barrier forcing its spiky scales and its own weight into Trey's body.

Trey screamed In pain, and just as the Dragon looked to smash its head again planning to squish Trey's body completely.

Akira who head leaped to the skies appeared just above the guardian, like a falling torpedo. Her left hill connected with the Guardian's head, which produced a powerful shockwave that sent the Guardian plummeting to the ground.

Akira's form continued to leak a golden colour as she landed on the ground, seconds later.

Trey's body also hit the ground and blood leaked on every part of his figure. Trey had cloaked his figure with Mana so he prevented the complete shattering of his bones but he was still heavily wounded.

Despite that, Trey managed to drag himself to his feet and once again he stood side by side with Akira.

"I owe you one" he said, not believing he had to rely on Akira otherwise he would've been dead.

Trey knew his carelessness was the reason and he was keen not to repeat his own mistake.

Even as Trey spoke, Akira did not respond. Her figure was just breathing heavily and her eyes focused on the fallen guardian.

As expected it didn't take long for the Guardian to find its feet. Its powerful roar dismissed all the dust around its figure.

Without thinking it charged at Akira and Trey once again, flames consumed the claws of its front limbs as it released a powerful slash towards the two.

Almost instinctively both Akira and Trey leaped to the sides, one to the left and the other to the right. This allowed the Guardian's searing slash to miss by mere inches.

Coming from the Guardian's left side, Akira's form grew fur at a rapid rate. Her body looked more beast than human. Her face still maintained its form slightly but whiskers and fangs protruded from her face.

She ran on four limbs like a beast, her figure leaped before smashing its limbs to the ground, this caused the ground to crumble and numerous spikes shot up as a result. Their intentions were to pierce the mighty Guardian.

The Guardian was hellbent on not allowing that to happen, it's tail wagged before it smashed against the ground. The shockwave produced by the tail decimated the spikes. Not only that it went on to send Akira's body smashing against Krey's barrier.

Immediately after that, Trey had already prepared his assault. He swung his blade and multiple dark slashes approached the Guardian at every angle, they moved and swerved almost as if they had a life of their own.

The Guardian inhaled, before from its nose it blew a powerful steam, the steam was equivalent to boiling magma. Not only did it devour the slashes but it devoured Trey as well, and it produced enough force to send his body flying.

When the steam settled, the Guardian stood unchallenged, Trey found his skin had severe burns, the burns were so pronounced it looked like his skin would melt off. Not only that he found himself unable to use his eyes which had been blinded by the steam.

He laid on the ground his figure, refusing to move.

"No, way..." Ten's body crumbled to its knees unable to comprehend what he had just witnessed.

"We have to retreat. We can't win against the Guardian" Jerry stated, with a horrified expression.

The Guardian marched towards Trey's body looking to finish the job.

"If we do that...both of them will die" Trey's lips shook as he spoke.

"It can't be helped, its better than all of us dying, we have a responsibility to enter Krey and we can't do that if all of us are dead. Really I feel for them but we have to be reasonable."

"To hell with your responsibility! If they die then who cares about the blade!" Trey yelled as tears flooded his eyes.

"If you really believe that, then why aren't you helping them! Stop trying to act tough you're as scared as much as I am!!" Jerry lost his composure.

Upon hearing those words Trey couldn't help but shiver. His mind went into deep self doubt.

Was Jerry right? Was he preserving his own life out of fear? His shaking body seemed to back this up. Trey found himself paralyzed.

The dragon loomed over Trey and it seemed like his fate was sealed but as the Guardian opened its mouth a golden light consumed its eyes before its body was forcibly sent skyward by a ferocious punch.

Akira was back to her feet and while blood leaked from her figure, it was drying up at rapid speed. Her teeth had grown bigger. Her eyes were unrecognizable.

The Guardian was struck directly from below, it didn't have scales on its chest and stomach, so that was a sensitive spot to it.

Akira's punch had not only sent it flying but it opened a would from below which allowed it to drip blood.

Akira's fist had the Guardian's blood covering it so she did what any animal would do and she leaked it.

The taste alone jolted her senses to life as she released an otherworldly laugh, Akira's fangs glinted as she smiled. She was beside herself with joy. Dragon blood, was delicious.

Her fur started to take a much darker form and a black tail protruded from her rear. Black marks made themselves known to her face in the form of dark lines across her eyes. A single black wing protruded from her spine. She looked like a fusion of the Guardian and her own beastly form.

Akira stood on four limbs before her figure blasted towards the Guardian, only a massive hole was left in her wake.

Like a bullet train, her figure collided with the Guardian's stomach and on impact the Guardian was propelled further up into the sky.

Akira swerved even with a single wing and she flew to just above the guardian. Her tail smashed against the guardian forcing it to plummet to the ground once again.

Akira wasn't done, as the Dragon fell she followed it. Her claws were soon consumed by an intense flame, very similar to the Guardian's own attack. Her claws penetrated the sharp scales with ease before they engulfed the dragon in a fierce blaze and its body collided against the surface.

Akira also landed soon after. Immediately after her landing, blood spilled out of her mouth and she was forced to her knees.

Her vision became hazy and her dragonic features began to disappear. She found it hard to even breathe, her lungs felt like they were boiling. Her vision began to fade as her mana began to die down.

"Akira, Trey!" Ten shouted helplessly. His mind caught in between running or helping. His indecisiveness resulted in him choosing neither option. He just sat there, shaking.

The dust around the Guardian vanished as it found its feet once again. Most of its skin was charred and clearly it was severely wounded.

Akira's eyes went black at that very moment, she collapsed.

The Guardian raged as it approached Trey and Akira.

Shadows would consume the ground before a black dark cloud appeared below Trey, from the brink of death Trey rised to his feet.

Numerous white orbs flew around his figure after escaping the cloud beneath his feet. These orbs let out horrific cries almost as if they were living beings. Trey's wounds slowly regenerated in the process.

Trey gripped his blade and even with his eyes effectively blinded, he could somehow see the Guardian. In his eyes the Guardian and all the things he saw were just flickering flames of different colors and the Guardian was by far the biggest one.

The Guardian covered its claws in flames as it attacked Trey once again.

One by one the orbs around Trey would fade to nothing before the shadows erupted from the ground. They came to his rescue acting as a buffer between him and the Guardian.

Their forms them changed and they wrapped themselves around the Guardian, slowly they constricted its figure looking to crash its body to pieces.

Trey's eyes had gone white.

The Guardian resisted, from its body an unbelievable amount of fire erupted, so much so that even the shadows could not bare it. They began to fade.

Trey leaped back almost instinctively, he then gripped his blade and launched a powerful slash. The slash ripped through the wind itself. It disappeared into nothing.

The Guardian jumped as it looked to attack Trey but it found its left leg swiftly severed.

Even though the slash had vanished from sight, it never stopped advancing. It materialized infront of the Guardian's limb and it tore through its leg.

The attack, drained any energy Trey had left and he collapsed to the ground.

The Guardian released a horrific cry in pain. It flew haphazardly with its wings not even bothering which direction it flew, the Guardian had gone wild.

"Ten let's go, while we still have the chance!" Jerry shouted.

Ten just stood there mumbling to himself.

"Foget this I'm out!" Jerry ran the other direction. He took his carriage and began turning back.

"What use am I? Why am I such a coward? Why can't I be useful to anyone?" Ten thought to himself.

Ten tried to drag himself to assist in the battle but his limbs wouldn't move. The Guardian finally reclaimed its senses and its body bolted towards Akira.

Ten watched as it closed in and he couldn't help but be reminded of the promise he made with Akira.

"Yea we'll find them." He mumbled to himself.

Ten went on to smash the surface with his hand, a red circle formed on the ground. It's glow was accompanied by a number of inscriptions. Black mana also leaked from the circle before beast came to life.

The beast was no bigger than a cat.

It had pointy ears and whiskers and its eyes were black.

"I will save my sister and I will also save those who I consider my friends!"

Ten's knees vibrated as he got up to his feet.

"Let him have it, Parry!"

Ten's beast charged towards the dragon and its own form suddenly grew to an unbelievable size, a size relative to the Guardian itself.

In a powerful scream, the beast released a powerful sonic blast which sent the Guardian crashing into the barrier.

Ten had a red circle form at the back of his right hand. It looked more like tattoo than anything, but it had a menacing glow.

Ten marched and stood side by side with his beast. Both of them had their eyes bored into the Guardian.

From the ashes, the Guardian raised again. Even though it looked to be on its last legs it was determined to see the fight all the way through to the end.

"I'm tired of watching while others fight for me, It's time I paid them back. It's time I showed my worth!"

The mighty roar of the Guardian signified that the battle with Ten, was about to begin.
