We Feast Tonight

The wolf stepped fowards, baring it fangs at the two. As it slowly got close, circling around them as it closely observed its supper. The ribcage was visible, indicating that the wolf probably didn't have enough food for a while. "Any plans?" Zahra asked, looking at her twin brother that was staring straight at the wolf. "Can't you just kill it?" Jason replied, not seeing why Zahra was backing up. "It's a grown wolf, we're two four year olds," Zahra replied, panicking.

Finally making sure that there wasn't anything wrong with the suspicious toddlers that were wandering around the forest in the middle of the night, the wolf pounced. "We were talking here, where are your manners?" Zahra said, pouting her lips. A green glow shone from her eyes, the surrounding mana fluctuated. Green vines shot out from the trees, wrapping around the wolf's collar, slamming it to the ground. Whimpering in fear, the wolf was shocked, where did the vines come from? It struggled, pulling and tugging on the vines to try and escape.

"See, you caught it," Jason said, clapping his hands in joy. "Don't just clap, kill it!" Zahra said, not being able to obtain the spell for long. "Just let it go," Jason said, not really wanting to kill a wolf, which was probably due to the influence of Lycaon's soul. The vines snapped, the wolf suddenly regaining its freedom. Looking at its captors, the wolf decided to pounce on the closet one. But before it could do anything, a chilling aura erupted from Jason, one that was so powerful that the wolf froze in place. "Don't test me," Jason said, the aura of a powerful wolf radiating from his figure. This aura didn't require any mana, since it was simply Jason unveiling the tiny part of his soul where Lycaon's soul resided. Feeling the rage and aura of a powerful werewolf, the wolf quickly ran away, disappearing into the dark forest.

Jason went back to the corpses of the goblins, pulling out the headless corpses one by one, laying them out. Zahra felt nauseous, seeing the gory sight. With slight concentration, Jason's hand suddenly shapeshifted into the claws of a werewolf, which frightened Zahra at first. "Chill, I got this skill from Lycaon, isn't it quite cool," Jason said, showing Zahra his paws as if he was showing her sister his new toy. Turning back to the corpses, Jason ripped open the goblin's chest, blood spilling everywhere. Rummaging through the goblin's innards, Jason pulled out a shiny crystal, about the size of a pea. "Magic core?" Zahra asked, wondering why Jason needed something like that. Magic cores were used for enchanting, alchemy, and stuff that involved creating magical items, so Zahra didn't see why a four year old was collecting the practically useless magical cores of the goblins, which were usually for crafting the lowest tier of potions and elixirs.

Jason then began to drag the corpses and placing them into a pile, which was quite a sight to behold. A four year old dragging the corpse of goblin, which was about the same size as him, with blood dripping everywhere. "Are you going to lend a hand?" Jason asked, as he slowly dragged the third corpse towards the pile. Although still not fully understanding what Jason was doing, Zahra grabbed one of the corpses ankles, dragging it towards the large pile. Originally, she was a couple yards away from the corpses, so she didn't really smell the stench, once she got near the pile, the sickening odor almost made her throw up. Gagging, Zahra quickly backed off.

As Jason finished uniting the last goblin with its dead comrades, he grabbed a small wooden stick. He began to draw a large circle in the dirt around the goblins, carving weird runes that Zahra didn't understand. After a couple of minutes, he was done. There were five runes scribbled all across the circle, Zahra not recognizing a single one. Jason placed the five magic cores directly on each rune, the array he drew instantly began to glow. "This is the first time I used this array, but desperate times call for desperate measures," Jason said, as he began to control the array that was slowly lighting up. "What does this array do?" Zahra asked curiously, watching the array emit a white glow. "You'll see," Jason said, the array finally activated.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

The first rune lit up, instantly, the flesh on the goblins began to melt, revealing the muscles. After a couple a seconds the muscles also melted into a red liquid, followed by the bones which took a little more time to melt. The corpses of the five goblins were nowhere to be seen, the only thing left was a spherical blob of red liquid, floating in the middle of the array. If anyone happened to stumble across the duo, they'll probably be scared to death just by seeing a four year old perform something which seemed like a demonic ritual. Although disgusted by the sight, Zahra was always fascinated by magic. She watched the ritual silently, observing every single thing that Jason was doing. The second rune finally lit up, bolts of lightning began to form, striking the sphere of red liquid.

Seeing Zahra in awe, Jason said out loud, "This step is to remove the impurities." At first, there were several hundred bolts of lightning, forming a magnificent view as they simultaneously struck the red blob. Slowly the lightning died down, indicating that most of the impurities were removed. The third rune lit up, a bright flame enveloped the red blob. Zahra could she the red blob slowly shrink down, from six feet in diameter to three feet, than finally into a couple of inches. "This condenses the liquid, but what for?" Zahra thought, recognizing the technique since she had seen something similar back at her village when her elder was brewing healing potions. The fourth rune lit up, separating the small blob into five even smaller blobs of the viscous red liquid. Jason began to sweat as the last rune began to light up, the array started to flicker. Realizing that this was definitely not normal, Zahra asked, "What's wrong?"

"Not precise enough, the runes I drawn. I have to stabilize some of the process myself," Jason said, stepping into the array. His hair fluttered under the forces that were keeping the red blobs afloat. Standing near his new creations, his eyes lit up. "Condense," he chanted, a slight dizziness assaulted Jason as more than three quarters of his mana evaporated. Zahra watched in awe as the five red blobs of liquid began to solidify, turning into five small pills each the size of a pea. Grabbing the five pills, Jason inspected his first ever attempt at alchemy since he "died". Seeing the black spots that were still visible, Jason sighed. "Mediocre at best," he said, although there was nothing he could do since he didn't have any alchemy tools lying around to help him.

He handed two of the pill to Zahra, who was still puzzled of what the pills were for. But as she saw Jason unhesistatingly swallow the three pills in his hand, Zahra followed suit. Instantly, she could feel the pill being absorbed, a invigorating and refreshing feeling washed over her body. "Essence pills, a quick way for one to absorb nutrients and the strength of dead monsters, although alchemists rarely turned goblins into essence pills since it is not worth the effort," Jason explained to Zahra. Jason burped, since three essence pills of goblins were tantamount to a big feast for him. Satisfied, this was the first time ever that his insatiable hunger stopped protesting. A wave of drowsiness washed over Jason, since controlling the array really had its toll on Jason's mind. He was going to fall asleep right on the spot, Zahra quickly came and held him in her embrace.

Luckily, the malnourished Jason was not that hard to carry. But first, she needed to get rid of Jason's dirty clothes, since they were stained red from all the blood. Zahra could imagine that perhaps their mother wouldn't be that glad if she saw her children covered in blood. Conjuring a ball of water, Zahra carefully washed off all the traces of battle from the both of them. Luckily, both of them weren't even injured, or else they would've some serious explaining to do. Looking at the sun that was about to peek through the horizon, Zahra hastened her pace. Arriving back at their wooden hut before Ela woke up, Zahra quickly climbed into bed with Jason still in her embrace. Perhaps this was the first time ever since she got this new body that she ever went to bed with a full stomach. Recalling the toddler in his embrace who was able to perform alchemy without any sort of support from cauldrons or catalysts, Zahra was once again shocked by Jason's power, was there something he couldn't do?
