Nightmare Palace

Her change didn't simply end there, her facial features also began to shift. Originally a mix between goat and human features, turned into a beautiful face of a maiden. Her exposed skin was as white as snow, her eyes had a green tint. Below her abdomen were still the legs and hooves of a goat, but other than that one cannot distinguish between her and and a teenage girl except for the two tiny horns on the top of her head. She also gained some height, gaining a whole extra foot. Now five foot five, she was only a foot shorter than Jason.

"Satyress?" Jason said, barely recognizing Zahra's new form. "It can't be, satyresses only had mature forms," Jason said, getting a closer look to see if there were other possibilities. But before Jason could make anymore inspections, the ring on his finger lit up. "PACT FULFILLED," the demonic voice in his head rang, as a red glow shrouded Zahra. The banyan ent noticed the anomaly, instantly going into battle mode, its arms instantly thickened, delivering a punch right at Jason's skull. "FOOLISH," the voice in Jason's head rang out once again, Jason's body suddenly dispersing into a cloud of purple smoke. The attack passed through Jason easily, not even harming a single hair, or bone to be exact. The smoke then condensed back into a flaming skeleton, who was looking at the ent with a sliver of mockery and disdain. Seeing that the attack failed to do anything, the ent began to vacuum the surrounding mana, readying a stronger attack. With a snicker, red chains coiled around the ent, shattering its spell that it was conjuring.

"Stop," Zahra ordered the ent, since she did pledge eternal allegiance to Jason. Accepting the red glow to intrude her mind, she felt like her soul was linked with Jason's. Memories that didn't belong to her began to flood her head, the scene where Jason and Savitr paved their way through hundreds of demons, finally reaching the demon lord's chamber. She saw Jason giving it his all to the point that he even severely harmed his soul. As she witnessed the scene where Savitr's blade pierced right through Vepar's heart, feeling the relief transmitted to her soul, tears even began to form in her eyes. She felt Jason's thoughts as he stood there in front of the demon lord's corpse quietly. Suddenly, she felt a blade pierce through her heart. The disbelief and hatred swelled her heart, experiencing the same emotions Jason did. Ever since she was a child, she'd heard tales of the Heroic deeds Savitr has accomplished over the years, how he selflessly devoted himself for the greater good of mankind. Now the only feelings that Zahra had left for Savitr were hatred and vengeance, wanting to rip out his heart herself. Everything Kierok had said about the mysterious mage that also joined in on the expedition of killing the demon lord was true, the only difference was that Jason was the one who really mattered in the fight.

Jason also began to experience some of the memories Zahra had, how she was treasured by everyone since she was the first mage the village had, how she almost suffocated when she felt his presence during their first encounter, the hatred she had when Enzo abandoned the group, the helplessness and disbelief when the strongest warrior in her village was turned into dust instantly when facing the burning skeleton, the heart wrenching sorrow she felt when the wargs tore the bodies of her companions, the hatred and vengeance she had for the wargs was overwhelming.

When Jason finally regained his senses, he saw a half-naked satyresses bawling her eyes out. "We have to get revenge, that rascal Savitr can't get away with this," she said, after experiencing the heartbreaking betrayal first-hand. "Soon, very soon," Jason replied, not actually believing his own words. Sure, he yearned for revenge badly, but Savitr wasn't simply a mere mortal. He could be seen as someone who inherited a portion of the God's strength, someone who didn't age, who could heal almost any injuring with enough time, who could overpower even the strongest giants, and the most important part was that Jason had been wandering around in spirit form for more than a hundred years, surely Savitr must've became much stronger than he once was. Luckily, Jason now had a shortcut to gain immense strength, simply by absorbing the souls of dead monsters.

Talking about finding more souls to absorb in order to increase his strength, a place came to mind. "Let's go," Jason said, announcing their departure. "Where are we going?" Zahra asked, puzzled of why Jason suddenly wanting to leave. She was still searching through the rubble to find anything useful. "The Wolf's den," Jason said, recalling a place he visited during his past life which was not far from the demon lord's castle, the place was infested by countless of canine monsters and lycanthropes. "The Wolf's den?" Zahra asked, the weird name did not spark any memories. "I don't know what others call it, but it's just a castle full of werewolves," Jason said nonchalantly, as he collected some of the silver weapons and coins from the dead corpses. "Should've taken some of the silver from the castle before I left," he muttered under his breath. He didn't really need silver to kill the werewolves, but it'll be much easier if he had some on hand.

A red flame ignited in his palms, directly heating the silver ornaments and equipments. The leather straps and other non-metal stuff caught on fire, turning into ashes before being swept away by the wind. The silver tarnished under the heat before turning bright red. The impurities evaporated under the intense heat, leaving pure silver behind. As the fire burned fiercely, the silver melted, pouring all over his skeletal arm, forming an uneven coating. Zahra stared at the act perplexed, not knowing what the flaming skeleton was doing. The silver eventually cooled down, his arm now had a silver sleeve that extented from his forearm to his entire left hand. "Those bloody wolves better die from this," Jason muttered, losing some dexterity in his left hand.

"Werewolves?" repeated Zahra, something came to her mind. "Nightmare palace, north of the demon lord's castle!" Zahra exclaimed, recalling several tales that the elders mentioned. The forbidden place for all goatmen, the palace where the Lord of the Wolves reside. "No, no, no... We can't possibly go there, we'll be slaughtered by the Lord of the Wolves," Zahra said, shivering as she pictured a scene where they were both mercilessly slaughtered by a giant wolf. "Lord of the Wolves? That's a fun nickname for that old coward," Jason said, climbing on to one of the lower branches of the banyan ent. Extending his arm towards Zahra, he said, "Don't you hope to seek vengeance on those wargs?" "What do wargs have to do with Nightmare palace?" Zahra asked, genuinely puzzled. "When have you ever seen wargs hunt in packs?" Jason replied. Recalling the earlier battle, Zahra realized that Jason was right, wargs don't usually hunt in packs, there were lone predators who had a pretty strong territorial instinct. Finally realized that the wargs were probably sent by the palace, the fire of revenge lit up in Zahra's heart.

Riding on the branches of the ent, the two easily passed by the demon lord's castle without encountering any monsters, since most of them wouldn't even dare come near the ginormous banyan ent. The sun was slowly setting, an orange hue shrouded the earth. Soon, Zahra's sensitive nose began to pick up the strong stench of wolves. "If my mind serves me well, we shouldn't be far from the castle," Jason said, an abnormal amount of mist covered the forest in front of them. The banyan ent fearlessly stepped into the mists, not really afraid of the monsters that lurked in the shadows. Several normal wolves instantly appeared, circling the intruder. One of them pounced at Jason, snapping their jaws at his boney legs. Zahra and Jason ignored them, since they were too weak for them to even attack. The ent also ignored the wolves, simply crushing them by directly stomping on the wolves. Stained red by the blood, the ent didn't seem to mind, continuing its journey fowards. More wolves appeared, but they were simply dealt with by a simple step or a sweep with the ent's attacks.

As they ventured in deeper and closer to the castle that could be seen in the distance, there were no wolves around. Instead, out came wargs who were smart enough to not blindly run up to the powerful intruder. Climbing nearby trees, they gained some high ground over Zahra and Jason, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. Seeing that wargs finally appeared, Zahra's blood boiled as she gritted her teeth. Pulling out her bone wand, her eyes shone with an ethreal green glow. Vines began to sprout from the nearby branches, even the ones that the wargs were sitting on. Constricting around the wargs like pythons, hundreds of purple flowers began to bloom from the vines. "Wolfsbane, quite clever," Jason said, recognizing the helmet shaped flowers that could be quite lethal to wolves and wolf-like monsters. Nauseous, the wargs fell from the trees before being ripped to shreds by more vines. "May your souls rest in peace," Zahra prayed, as the wargs died one by one.
