Chapter 6: Who is this Kid?
“Hey Lily, make sure to chop the garlic into small tiny pieces.”
“Haiiiiii…!”
I could hear the rapid chop from the cutting board as Lily began cutting up the garlic. I, on the other hand, began to mix the ingredients with the ground beef. I slowly mashed the beef paste, molding them into small friable patties.
“Here you go.”
Lily powdered the patties with garlic as I continued to make the other patties. Just like the other three days, we’ve been living a very peaceful life. The lot Artura gave us was surrounded by the forest. A river was running right behind us and a lake could be seen past it. Our house was nothing out of the ordinary. It was a simple two roomed house with a single bathroom.
The walls were made of intertwining wood and polished stone. I used hard oak for the walls and scripted a barrier type circuit that should protect it from fire and other natural hazards. The floor was made out of polished white cherry blossom bark. It gave the house a very light atmosphere. As for the furniture, they were simply made out of metal, plastic and feathers. They were really comfy to sit on.
“How long, how long?!”
“Just wait a couple more sec. It’s almost done.”
I couldn’t help but pat Lily on the head. Though we looked to be the same age, it honestly feels as if she was younger than I am. I couldn’t help but smile.
“There, done.”
“Yay!”
I placed the burgers on a plate and began adding the mushrooms and the gravy. With that, the hamburger steak was done.
““Thank you for the food.””

After finishing our breakfast, we began heading towards the city. Today was our official debut as instructors, though Lily is more like a helper really. Artura had sent us a letter that contained some kind of pass I was supposed to show. I couldn’t really read it, but the golden letters gave me instructions on what to do as well as an address. I really need to learn how to read the language.
“Come on Bryan, you’re really slow.”
“I’m not slow, you’re just too energetic. I swear, for an old person, you’re pretty childish.”
I instinctively moved back as a foot suddenly dug its way to the ground in front of me. I couldn’t help but whistle as I looked at the six inch hole she made into the ground.
“WHO YOU CALLING OLD!”
I began to laugh as I easily swiped the punches she threw at me. Really, her temper makes her so adorably cute. After promising to make ice cream, she finally calmed down and we continued to make our way into the city. We finally made it to the gates and saw a long line wagons. They were probably being inspected for criminals or something similar.
“Hey Ralph, what’s with the line.”
I called out to one of the guards. His name was Rale Sphence. Everyone calls him Ralph though. He was a strong man around the age of thirty. He had short brown hair and dark brown eyes, a common trait of the commoner population. He waved back at me.
“What’s up Bryan, Lily. Ehh… nothing much really. Just making sure there isn’t any spies or thieves. You know how it is around the city. Any way, you two going into the city?”
“Yeah, do I still need to show you my pass?”
He shook his head and laughed.
“Nah, I know you of all people wouldn’t do anything bad right.”
“Hahaha… true, but you sure do put a lot of trust in someone you just met.”
“Meh… you can say I have a gift for seeing people.”
He leaned close to my ear as he stared between me and Lily.
“Actually, I’ve been wanting to ask. What’s your relationship with that girl?”
Off course he would ask that. I could even see him eyeing Lily from top to bottom. Lily is a very attractive girl, but it’s going to take a while for you win her heart. I couldn’t help myself and laughed as I pat him in the back and walked away.
“You’ll have to figure it out yourselves my good man.”
I heard a shout from behind me but I didn’t bother looking back.
“What was that about?”
I looked at Lily who managed to catch up.
“Nothing really, just guy talk.”
We quickly made our way through the busy streets. It was just as busy as before. Stalls were opening, people were moving back and forth. The air was filled with the sound hammers and shouts, the typical sounds of the busy city. We slowly made our way through the maze of houses.
“Hey Bryan, is that the place?”
I looked over where Lily was pointing. There was a big wooden sign that had the address in the front. Like the letter, it was written in golden letters. Beside it was two really big words I couldn’t read. Honestly, it wouldn’t have hurt to have also written them with the translation ink couldn’t it?
“Well… we might as well look inside.”
We finally passed through the two doors and to our surprised, it was bigger inside than outside. At the very back, you could see an office area of some sort. Girls could be seen handing out papers and taking papers one after another from the line of mercenaries. I could tell they were mercenaries because the clothes they wore didn’t have the symbols of the militia or the iron guard. On the side of the building, there was a small resting area with a restaurant. You could smell the food from the place as they were being taken to different tables by maids. On the other, some type of bank could be seen. There was a barred up window with a small slot that the mercenaries were placing money through. Honestly, this building must be some kind of information area.
“Welcome Adventurers!”
I looked behind me to see a girl. She was wearing the exact clothes from the ones on the counter. A one piece dress that reached to her knees which also includes a Jacket and some long stockings. She seemed to be a normal girl who had green ears and long neon green hair, but then I saw her ears. They were long.
“Are you by any chance an elf?”
If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
She looked at me with a smile.
“Why yes I am. Is this the first time you’ve ever seen one?”
“Yes. I was actually surprised, but I have to admit. Elves really are beautiful people”
She gave a small giggle as I felt a cold presence behind me.
“So, how may I help you both today?”
I took out my contract as well as the letter I received from Artura. I then gave it to her.
“Well, we were sent here to show you this.”
She took the letter along with the contract and began to read them. The more she read, the more you could see her sweating. I wonder what’s written in that letter. She then looked at me and pointed.
“D… Don’t tell me… He…ro… Sama?”
Why does she look afraid? Oye, you better not have written anything bad about me Artura.
“Yeah I guess you can say I’m a hero, but please don’t call me that. I’m not really up for defeating the demon lord in a Deathmatch and all that.”
Before I could even finish, she was taking a huge bow towards me. I swear, I thought her back broke just from bending in that impossible ninety degrees angle.
“PLEASE EXCUSE ME OF MY FAMILIARITY EARLIER. I will get the guild manager instantly so please wait.”
“Ummm… ok?”
Before I could even properly reply, she ran off towards the back of the guild. In a matter of seconds, she reached one of the doors and entered it. Dang she’s quick!
“What was that about?”
Lily placed her hand over her head as if she was trying to block the light from her eyes. I could only face palm as I tried to imagine what was possibly written in that letter.
“I swear Artura, you better not have written anything weird in that letter.”
“Don’t worry, she didn’t write anything weird, so you’re safe.”
What the…? I looked below me. There was a really small girl that was half my height standing in front of me. She had auburn red hair and black eyes. Her attire was a type of combat dress. A metal chest plate with a leather vest. Her skirt was a mesh of metal and interlocking plating. She honestly looked like a little soldier. Her legs were spread apart as she crisscrossed her arms together. She then began to give off an aura that said ‘bow before’ which kind of annoyed me.
“Ummm…”
“WELCOME TO THE ADVENTURERS GUILD CARLETON DONO, LILY DONO. My name is Nina V’espelza. I’m the adventurer guild’s current headmaster as well as the commander of the Legionnaires. I’m glad to finally be receiving some good instructors to teach those brats how to fight, so I’m counting on ya both to beat em senseless.”
I couldn’t believe my eyes. This little pipsqueaks the commander of the militia? Isn’t she a little too young to be leading an army? I looked at the worker girl from before who suddenly appeared back here.
“Hey, umm… what was your name again?”
The green haired girl was confused, but I nodded when she pointed at herself. She then gave a curtsy.
“Silvana Greenwood at your service!”
“Ahhh… ok, so Sil. Who’s this kid?”
I then pointed at the small girl. All of a sudden the entire guild hall became quiet. No one spoke, not even the crickets. This was kind of eerie.
“Hehehehe… hahahah”
I looked at the little girl who was suddenly laughing.
“I haven’t been called that in a while. It sure brings back memories of the day I beat those people to a pulp.”
I suddenly began seeing the mana from around us form around the girl.
“Shit, everyone evacuate the building. NOW!”
What in the world is going on? I could see everyone racing as they ran towards the exit. Even the staff were desperate in trying to escape.
“You, stay right there. You’re going to have to take the hit for pissing her off.”
“ehh, what?”
Before I knew it, everyone left the entire building even Lily.
“So, how do you want to be cooked? Medium or Well done?”
“Umm… if I can, I rather not be cooked thank you very much.”
I gave her a smile. She returned it, though you could see her eyes weren’t smiling. She then instantly disappeared from where she was.
“You’re mine!”
I raised up both my hands as I turned around and began coating them with mana. I was amazed at what I saw. She had retracted her leg which seemingly held a huge amount of mana at one focal point. If that were to hit, that would give you some serious damage. She then kicked at the speed of light which I easily grabbed. Using that momentum, I then redirected it towards the floor. A huge crater formed as the brat smashed headfirst into the ground. Whoops, I might have gone too far with that hit.
“You bastard!”
I could hear a seething whisper coming from the smoke. The smoke then cleared revealing a girl in full combat mode. Her attire was the same, but now she was wearing two full gauntlets with spikes coming out of them.
“Whoops.”
I leaned to the side and dodged one of her fist.
“HOLD STILL!!”
“Nah, I rather not get hit.”
She kept on trying to hit me as she continued to either punch the air or the walls. Little by little, holes began forming around the building.
“You know the buildings getting destroyed right?”
“I DON’T CARE. I’M LANDING A HIT ON YOU ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!”
I instantly dodged to the side as she came crashing down into me. Another huge crater formed and to add effect, small bolts of electricity surged out. Ugh… she’s becoming a pest to my peaceful day. But, I guess this is the perfect time to test this worlds soldiers. Judging from her appearance, she probably wasn’t lying about being the commander so I might as well have fun and play along with her for a bit.
