Volume 2: Chapter 22 Festival

Charlotte changed into a more easy to move outfit of a skirt and simple blouse. She covered her hair with a hat she received as a present from Iris and Lilly from her birthday and the four headed off.

It wasn’t that far from the mansion, but they took a horse as they went. It goes without saying that Leila sat together with Leo, so Charlotte sat behind Terence.

This was the first time she had entered the town (officially). The streets were decorated with flowers and filled with people full of laughter.

“As expected, the duke’s territory is as prosperous as they say.” Terence commented

“Of course it is; this is my father we are speaking of.” Duke Adrian was a good lord to his people and a workaholic.

As they entered town, they got off the horses and strolled pass the stalls and plaza. For a noble and royalty, Charlotte was surprised to see that the two were so easy going as they danced to the flute’s tune.

“My I have this dance?”

Terence offered her a dance and she gladly accepted “Why of course.”

It seems like Leo and Terence were a lot more familiar with the town as they led the two girls around. There were several performances and the snacks were enjoyable. There were even things she had never seen before.

A little tired, Terence and Charlotte went to sit on a nearby bench while the two lovebirds were still at it.

“Those two sure have a lot of energy huh.”

Charlotte followed his gaze and nodded. “But, isn’t it better than seeing them sad?”

He chuckled “You sound more like a worried sister than a fiancé watching her partner with another woman.”

He was still at it “I had already said that I have no intentions of going through with the engagement.”

“Right…I have been wondering, but why do you hate being his fiancé so much?”

Charlotte looked at him with a serious expression as if she was looking at an idiot “I thought it would have been clear by now.”

“What? It’s obvious that you don’t hate Leo. You might not have any romantic feelings, but this is something normal for you nobles, isn’t it? Moreover, you would become the future queen…ah.”

“So you finally realized? That was slow. Yes, I don’t want to become queen. It sounds like a lot of work and I like to be unrestrained. If someone wants to willingly take that burden from me, then I would be more than happy. Well, that’s putting it in a harsh way.”

“Pfft- hahahaha!” hearing her answer like that so straight forward, Terence could no longer hold it in as he laughed until he was even rolling on the ground. “Hahah! If the two of them heard, their expressions would be priceless!”

“Hmn, should I give it a shot?”

Unknown to Leo and Leila, their two friends were actually plotting something mischievous against them.

As she was in the middle of preparing while the two returned, something alarmed Charlotte’s danger senses. She tugged at Terence’s sleeve and whispered “Hey, did you feel that?”

He frowned. He didn’t know what she was talking about, but when he wanted to ask, she shut him up with a glare. Without waiting for the two, Terence lifted Leila into his arms and Charlotte pulled Leo away to a more crowded area.

“Hey, what are you two doing!?”

The two ignored their questions and spoke further

“Yeah, after checking carefully, there was definitely someone watching us.” However she was able to sense them when even he didn’t notice, but he had judged that he shouldn’t pry as he felt she had a lot more hidden secrets.

“Hmn. But I don’t know who they are or who they were after. Any ideas?”

From their short conversation, Leo had already picked up on the situation with their weird behavior. The only one still clueless was Leila.

“Terence, are you positive?”

“Sorry your highness. It looks like they’re experts that I won’t be able to handle.”

Snatching a child or two in this crowd undetected was an easy task. Especially for professionals.

“I think we should look for a place where there are guards stationed and head back to the mansion.”

“Alright” after some thought, Leo agreed “We did promise to bring you back unharmed. Let’s go.”

But, as soon as they left the crowd, Charlotte felt that itchy danger approach them again. By the time they could even leave the crowd, their figures had already disappeared from the streets.

*A/n: I have no idea if itchy danger is even a proper phrase T_T
