Vol.1 Chapter 8- The library card

The library card

He found some information about the area, the city, information that every NPC though was general knowledge. Hours later having no more interesting books he went to the second floor and started reading. As soon as he touched the first book he got a new skill which surprised him since so far he only increased some stat points.

Skill Name:Skill Rank:Skill Level:SkillExperience:ReaderBeginner10%You are now able to read 30% faster and remember more details.

Orion didn’t really care for this skill but it still helped in the library. On the second floor the books were more interesting. They all had things that could be useful. It took him a full day to read every book and the only reason he stopped, was that he was hungry. He left the library and headed to the inn. He ordered some food and ate then headed back to the library.

This time he went to the second floor and use mana paint to add another line on the library card. He successfully gained access to the third floor. There were even fewer books. Only about 50 or so books but they all looked expensive. He carefully picked up the books and started reading. After finishing all 50 hesuccessfully learned the elf language and dwarf language.

Using mana paint he got then to the fourth floor and saw that there are only 10 books on a table. As he finished reading all the books he got a skill that would be most useful.

Skill Name:Skill Rank:Skill Level:Skill Experience:HealBeginner10%You can heal any living thing. For every 1 HP recovered you use 20 MP. You can also cure diseases but the more severe the sickness the more MP it consumes.

Warning: Not having enough MP to fully heal the disease will consume all your MP but the disease remains.

He learned healing. A rare skill that to get you need to join the church and only after a long time you can learn it. He also noticed the any living thing part. It probably meant that it could also heal plants and anything that lived in a way.

Finally he could go to the fifth floor. Using mana paint, the library card was now silver. Then using the merchant persona he hurried to the stairs and he saw that this time there were two high level guards and a locked door. He showed them the card and they stared for a bit at the man that looked like a beggar. Finally they opened the door and Orion entered. The guards closed the door behind him.

Orion looked in the front and on a small table there were 3 large, thick books. They had black leather covers and looked really old. As he approached them he saw the title of the book he was looking for.The young man stretched his hands to open the book and the moment he touched the book all his mana was drained and a message appeared.

Ancient BladesmithingDo you wish to learn this skill?

Orion nodded and the book turned to dust. Orions face was now white as a sheet He knew the book was priceless. But he felt better when he saw the skill

Skill Name:Skill Rank:Skill Level:Skill Experience:Ancient BladesmithingUser dependent--A forgotten version of the ancient bladesmithing. By using the same process as regular bladesmithing but continuously feeding the fire with mana you can change the fire prorieties which in turnimproves the weapon damage and durability. It can’t be leveled up. The final product depends on the material, knowledge and care the bladesmith uses. You can craft any object from metal if you have the knowledge.

He still didn’t know what to do. He needed to find a way so that he won’t be blamed if someone checks this. He then used his mana paint and painted over one of the books he had in his inventory and was similar in size. After a half hour he finished. He got notified that he reached intermediary on Mana Paint and could use any color he wanted. Also his paintings now offered bonuses. He looked at the other books but there wasn’t anything written on the cover and he didn’t have any similar books left so he decided don’t touch them.

Leaving the book behind, he calmed himselfdown and knocked on the door. The door opened and the guard looked at the table. Seeing nothing wrong he let Orion leave. Orion left as fast as he could. He changed back to his original look stopping Illusion Shift. As he got out of the library he ran to the bladesmith. Seeing him so pale the bladesmith knew there was something wrong.

-“What did you do?”

-“Uhh….i completed you test.”

-“YOU DID WHAT?!”

The dwarf yelled. And then paced around for a while whith small sweat appearing on the forhead , before asking

-“Can you prove it?”

-“Yes…but before that I want to help you”

-“Help me? With what?

Orion approached him and took the dwarfs hand the dwarf wanted to pull his hands back but he realized that Orion meant no harm. Suddenly a yellowish light covered the dwarf and then retracted to his hands increasing in density. The dwarf now knew what is happening. He saw this once before when he was a small child. A bishop came and in exchange for a divine sword healed his teacher’s sickness.

The light disappeared and Orion fainted. The dwarf was standing still looking at his hands with tears in his eyes. When Orion got up he was greeted by the dwarf who was smiling at him. With tears in his eyes he hugged Orion while saying thank you multiple times. Orion was grateful but his HP kept decreasing. The old dwarf’s hugs were strong.

-“The final product depends on the material, knowledge and care the bladesmith uses”

Hearing this the dwarf, from what he heard he knew the truth and went pale again

-“You really did do it…If they found out what you did it you will be thrown into jail or worse.”

-“Don’t worry. Can you teach me bladesmithing now?”

-“Hohohoho, of course. It would be my honor. You also helped heal my hands.”

-“Thank you”

-“Before we start I must warn you to be careful with the healing spell and the bladesmith skill. If someone found out, you could be in danger”

-“I will be careful.”

-“Good. Now rest. We will start in two days. I need to get some things ready.”

Jake got out the pod after logging out. Took a long shower and ordered some food. After eating he went to bed and slept like a baby. The next day he got up and watched a bit of TV. They were still talking about Tale of Adventure. While watching he realized he didn’t see any players in the game.

He searched the web for this. He saw that there was more and more information posted by players and didn’t take long to find what he searched. He found out that you couldn’t tell a player and a NPC apart. The only way would be by the way they acted or when they die. NPC bodies remain but the bodies of the players turn to dust and after 24 hour they reappear. He kept reading but it was all that he knew already. The only thing that was new were the guilds. There were guilds appearing in some cities created by the players.

Jake got back into the pod and with a few words he awoke as Orion.

He couldn’t find the dwarf but there were a few items he didn’t see before in the forge. He decided to leave a note and left for the tailor. When he arrived his armor was already finished. It cost 2 gold 50 silver but it was worth it. The armor was white on the outside and in the inside black. After using identify on the armor he was stunned. It was way better than he initially though. The armor had a high protection so he could get hit for a while by someone of his level and his health would not decrease.

After trying it on he didn’t felt uncomfortable at all. And while moving around he wasn’t hindered. The armor was custom made for him but still socked him. He left thanking the elf and headed to the inn. He bought some food and after finishing he alsobought an enhanced bottle that could store more water. Orion bought more food for 20 silver and stored it in his inventory. This amount of food should last at least two weeks.

When he got back to the forge there was a sign on the door saying its closed. Orion knocked and there was no one there. He headed to the market district hoping to find the dwarf. He started looking around and since there were too many people it was harder to see a specific person. Finally after half an hour of searching he was talking to a merchant.

-“I couldn’t find you at the store. Anything wrong Arno?”

-“Oh Orion. Sorry it took longer than I thought to buy all the items I needed.”

-“Can I help?”

-“I just finished. You can help me carry some of this back to the store and then we can start”

As they walked to the store Orion saw that Arno was focusing on something so he didn’t bother him. As they reached the store Arno finally spoke.

-“Well then I will need you help to set everything up and then we can actually start”

-“I see.”

-“I don’t know how much it will take for you to learn all that I know but until then I will close the shop so that we don’t get disturbed”

They entered the store and went to the back to the forge. Orion saw that Arno bought some coal, new tools, and some things he didn’t recognize. Arno started telling him what to do and after 5 hours they finally finished preparing everything. Since it was so late they decided to start tomorrow and both went to sleep. Orion didn’t sleep much in the game before but decided to see what it’s like to sleep peacefully.

Arno looked at Orion and asked him a question that was easy to answer.

-“What is usually the most used blade”

-“The blade of a sword”

Orion answered confidently.

-“Wrong. The most used one is that of the knife. Every person in this world can use a knife, but only a few can use a sword. If you can make a knife that will satisfy me you can make anything out of metal”

Orion was surprised that a simple knife can be that important. He never considered that a knife is used more often that a sword and the blade dulls over time. Arno then sat down in front of him and started explaining how to extract iron out of the ore.
