The Event
He noticed that thanks to learning first how to craft a knife the process was somewhat easier than if he started directly with making swords. Thanks to learning how to make knives first he knew how much strength to use and detecting parts that needed more work.
For the next week he started making as many swords as possible only leaving to get food and water. Finally after a week of hard work he finally made a sword that was better than the one Arno showed him.
Iron Sword of Blood Attack:115Durability:120/120Rank:UncommonLevel requirement:15A sword made from iron that was made to be used by a skilled swordsman increasing his agility and damage he deals.
Special:
Increased attack +10
Increased agility +5.
Feeling proud of the sword he ran to Arno and showed him the weapon. Arno started laughing softly and gave the sword back and patted Orion on the back.
-“I have only a few things left to teach you. It’s kind of sad that this will be over soon and you will leave.”
-“Don’t worry…I will come visit you”
-“You can come back anytime you wish. I will help you with everything you need”
Before Arno started explaining Orion took his hand and using mana pain, he drew a symbol on his wrist, the same symbol he drew on Brock. He explained everything to Arno, how this was a sign of friendship and how he could recognize others with the same symbol. Then Arno with a smile on his face he started explaining what he started doing.
-“I will know teach you how to make steel. Steel is very hard to make and only a few of this craft know the secrets.
A clay vessel is constructed. After the clay tub has set, it is fired until dry. A charcoal fire is started from soft pine charcoal. Then the smelter will wait for the fire to reach the correct temperature. At that point he will direct the addition of iron sand. This will be layered in with more charcoal and more iron sand over the next 72 hours. It takes about a week to complete the iron conversion to steel. The steel is not allowed to become fully molten, and this allows both high and low carbon material to be created and separated once cooled. When complete, the vessel is broken to remove the steel.”
After finally finishing making the steel, Orion finally asked.
-“Why would I work so hard to make steel when iron is easier to make”
-“Think about it like this. Let’s say you make a sword made from iron and a sword made from steel. You have use for both swords the same amount of skill. At the end the sword made from steel is at least two times better than the one made from regular iron.”
-“Two times?!”
Orion was shocked. He didn’t think there would be such a huge difference between iron and steel. After he snapped out of it he transformed every bit of iron he had to steel. It took him a whole week and he asked to for a day to relax since he was a bit tired from all the crafting.
He left and when he stepped outside he saw that the sky was covered in dark clouds and the wind was chilly. He bought some supplies as usual and he decided to check how Brock was doing. He found him pretty easily. He was in exactly the same place as before.
-“Hey Brock. How are you?”
-“Hehe….I’m good. I finally ate some good food for the first time in a long time thanks to you.”
He was showing a satisfied smile on his face.
-“I’m glad. So did you hear something interesting?”
-“Yes. Many things. Most of the things I heard were useless but I do have interesting information for you.
First there was a fight between two of the nobles that run this city and one of them died in the struggle. That’s what everybody thinks but actually a friend of mine saw the whole thing and the noble that died was killed for trying to sleep with the others wife.
Secondly, there is a new guard captain that is very lazy. He also likes to hurt any sub-human he sees. Many of the nobles allow him to hurt them since the captain is the grandson of the most powerful man in this city.
Thirdly, they are still looking for the famous merchant that went missing a while ago. It seems that this merchant was also in charge of storing and keeping safe the more valuable, and illegal items of the nobles.
And lastly, it seems that the guards are looking for a man that broke into the library and stole something valuable. There is a 500 gold reward on him.”
Orion knew the moment he heard that the person the guards are looking for is him. The other pieces of information were interesting but not useful at the moment.
-“Meet me in that back alley in five minutes”
-“I will”
Orion left to towards the back alley. There was no one there and the alley was also hidden from the main street. Five minutes later Brock showed up. Orion took his hand and used the healing skill on him. His wounds were not as bad as the dwarf’s so it was somewhat easier to heal and Orion didn’t faint this time.
The wounds were now no longer visible. Brock after recovering from the shock started to tell the story of his wounds.
-“I am…was, the advisor of the previous king. I had a different name but that doesn’t matter anymore. He was assassinated by his closest advisors and since I learned about them, they tried to silence me. I escaped with the help of a sub-human, who I considered a good friend. In the middle of escaping I was hit in the arm with a poisoned arrow. If it were a normal arrow I would have healed without any problems. The poison started to destroy my muscles and skin. By the time I found an antidote, my arm was useless.”
He then went silent and using his other hand was now rubbing his arm. Orion was impressed by Brock’s past. He didn’t realize that the man in front of him had such a sad past. The young man broke the silence.
-“This was just a small gift.”
-“I…I don’t know what to say…”
-“Don’t say anything. Just help me find someone”
-“Who?”
-“I need to learn how to fight since I’m too weak to survive. Do you know anyone who would be a good teacher?”
-“I do know one person that would be perfect. But I can’t tell you much about him since it was a promise. I hope you won’t ask me to break my promise”
-“Just tell me what you can”
-“Head north to the forest. In the woods, near the lake he made himself a house and lives there in solitude. It shouldn’t be too difficult. The problem is that the monsters in the forest are fairly strong. At your level you will need to avoid them as much as possible.”
-“Thank you my friend. See you later”
-“See you.”
He headed back to the forge and started making steel swords. The process was a bit more difficult since shaping the steel was harder than the iron. However after a few failed products he finally succeeded in making a steel sword that could be used.
Average Steel Sword Attack:215Durability:170/170Rank:CommonLevel requirement:10A sword made from steel. Although it is average, since it was made from steel that is harder to make and use, it is a higher grade than the ones made from iron.
Special:
Increased attack +20.
50% chance to reduce the durability of swords made from iron by 75%.
He successfully crafted a steel sword and Orion was grinning while holding the sword. Now he remembered that his skill has something he didn’t use yet. He tried to pour mana from his hand into the fire and the fire started to change colors. From a orange, reddish color it turned into a dark red, then blue and finally into white. The heat also increased with each change in the color of the flame.
The mana started draining faster as soon as the heat increased. After recovering some of the mana he tried to pour mana into the water the same way he did into the fire. However it didn’t work. The mana drained but the water remained the same. Finally he decided to cool himself down since the flames were very hot. As soon as his fingers reached the water he was shocked and pulled back his hands as fast as he could.
“The water is freezing, even colder than ice. So how come it isn’t in a solid state?”
He didn’t care what the logic behind this was but now he could make better weapons and faster. He decided to try and make another sword. As he did he raised the flame temperature and the steel became liquid instantly. After various tests he figured the right temperature to work with. Hot enough to increase the speed of crafting but not hot enough to destroy it.
In 25% of the time it took him to create the first steel sword he finally finished five swords. When inspecting them he was shocked. The swords were slightly better but he succeeded making them in a very short time, only a few hours.
Having finished the swords he decided that he needed to thank Arno somehow. After thinking for a short while he decided to make a hammer made from steel. After hours of sweating he finally finished and made something that could be one of his best creations.
Bladesmith’s Hammer A hammer made from a higher grade material by a bladesmith for a bladesmith as a gift for sharing his knowledge.
This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.
Special: Decreases crafting time by 10%
He called Arno in and gave him the hammer. Arno stood still carefully examining the hammer. After examining it he went to the forge and started to craft something. He wanted to test the hammer out. After a few minutes he put the hammer down and took Orion’s hands.
-“Thank you for the gift”
-“It’s nothing. I learned a lot and this is my way of saying thank you”
-“You are leaving?”
-“Soon. I still need to do a few things before heading out”
As they said goodbye to each other Orion left. He went around buying some water and food for the trip. Since it will be dangerous he kept one of the better swords he made even though he couldn’t use it properly. He went to the north gate and left the city.
It took him a few minutes to reach the edge of the forest Brock told him about. Orion didn’t encounter any creatures so far. He prepared himself mentally and with the weapon in his hand he headed into the forest. Minutes passed and Orion still didn’t see any creature. As he headed deeper into the forest it got darker and darker. The trees were old and huge. Moss was growing on the trees and there were different types of wild flowers.
Orion was looking around carefully and then suddenly from one of the bushes a pack of wolves jumped out. Orion didn’t know if he could handle the wolves and ran. He knew he couldn’t outrun them but as soon as a wolf got close to his legs he swung the sword and the wolf retreated. He ran for a few minutes before he ran out of stamina and fell to the ground.
As the wolves saw the young man fall they knew that they won. They stopped and calmly approached Orion who was exhausted on the ground. One of the wolves that was closer opened its mouth with saliva falling out and approached Orion’s neck.
Just before the fangs reached the skin an arrow pierced the wolf’s head killing it. The other wolves were also killed soon after not even having time to run. As soon as they were dead Orion looked around to see who helped him. Then a man came out from behind one of the trees. As he came closer Orion saw that the man was limping. He had a green hood, brown light armor. He had a bow on his back and a small sword in his hand. As he got closer Orion was surprised by the man’s eyes. The eyes were similar to a cats.
-“Eyes……How cool….”
He noticed that he said it out loud seeing the man react
-“I apologize. Thank you for saving my life”
-“No problem. But….”
-“What?”
-“Do you really like my eyes?”
-“Huh? Ah……yes”
-“Everyone I ever met didn’t like my eyes, with the exception of my mother and….”
He went silent. Orion got up and got of the dirt off from his clothes.
-“My name is Orion. Nice to meet you”
-“I’m called Sig.”
-“I was wondering if you know someone with a house near a lake in this forest.”
-“Why do you ask”
-“A friend told me to look for that person if I want to learn how to survive in this world”
-“I know the place you speak of. I can take you there if you like”
-“Thank you”
-“No problem. Follow me”
Orion started following Sig. As they walked Orion learned that Sig has great eyesight and hearing. He was also very good with the bow. He instantly killed every creature in the way, taking only things that he needs from the bodies.
-“So why do you want to learn how to fight?”
-“I need to survive if I want to change the world”
-“Change the world? Bold statement”
-“Well I don’t know if I will succeed but I will try at least, and in the process I will make many enemies.”
-“Noble goal. I wish you good luck in your plans”
-“Thank you. How much further till the house?”
-“A few minutes at this pace”
And a few minutes later they reached a clearing. There was a huge lake in front of them. On the lake edge there was a small wooden house. There was also a small boat on the edge. They both approached the house. Orion didn’t know why but as they approached the small house his palms started to sweat.
He received the same notification several times while approaching the house.
You are now in a state a fear.
Movement speed decreased by 30%.
Stats decrease by 5%
Then Sig smiled at Orion and looked at the house.
-“Master. Master! We have a guest”
Sig kept grinning and then the door slowly opened. An old man came out. The old man had grey hair and beard. His face looked old and wrinkly but his posture and body looked like a man’s in his 30’s. One of his eyes was just like Sig’s and the other was white. He was wearing some light clothes and fur boots. The old man had in his hands a cane, just like the nobles had but more worn out.
-“Sig, I see you brought someone with you…”
The old man then looked at Orion and smiled. Orion smiled back, but he felt like he was smiling to the devil. He felt some sort of pressure that kept increasing. His palms started to sweat more and more. After what seemed like an hour of a staring competition the pressure completely disappeared and the old man spoke.
-“You lasted one full minute. Impressive…Now tell me why are you here”
-“My name is Orion. Sir?”
-“I’m no sir. And I will tell you my name when you earn it”
-“I see. Well I came to learn how to survive.”
-“From who?”
-“You who live in this house”
-“Me? Who told you I can teach you anything?”
-“A friend…and that thing you did earlier”
-“A friend?”
-“What is this friends name?”
-“Does it matter?”
-“No. I already know who told you.”
-“Then why did…”
-“Wanted to see what kind of person are you.”
-“What kind am i?”
-“Don’t know yet”
-“So will you teach me?”
The old man didn’t say anything and went back into the small wooden house. Sig ran after him. Orion was confused. He didn’t know what to do. He looked around for thinking ‘What just happened?’ Then Sig came back out smiling.
-“He asked me to tell you to come back tomorrow and he will tell you the answer then.”
-“Oh…I see.”
Since he didn’t know what to do for a whole day he sat down near the lake on the grass. He wasn’t sure why but it seemed that this place was safe. Not long after sitting down he saw Sig running back to the forest with a serious expression.
Then something happened that he didn’t expect. The whole world froze. Everything stopped moving. The birds were frozen in the air, and even the wind stopped. Then a message popped up in front of Orion.
Congratulations player! We apologize for the interruption. The world is frozen for the next 5 minutes. As you noticed you won’t be able to move either, just your hands and eyes. This message was sent to all players, by me the creator of the game as an explanation for what is about to happen.
When I created this game I made some small modifications to the pods and game. When certain conditions are met, these modifications are activated.
There is actually only one condition:
There must be over 1 billion players logged in, and active. When the condition is met, everybody who is in the game in that moment will receive this message and they will be unable to log out until someone wins the competition.
Don’t worry about your bodies in the real world. They are being preserved by the pods and it’s like they are frozen in time. Your families and friends were also informed about this so that they don’t try and destroy the pods. In case something like this happens you mind will remain in this game for eternity, and your real body will be in a comatose state.
The winner of the competition will earn the right to decide the fate of the rest of the players. He can decide to let everybody log out. The winner can also keep everybody in this world for as long as he wishes. Some small changes to the game1. The time in the game is now 10 times faster than the real world.
2. When you die you will revive in the last place you slept if there are no hostile enemies towards you in a 100 meter radius of that place. If there are hostile enemies in that area then you will revive in the nearest place near that location that satisfies the condition.
From the moment you die until you revive, 24 hours will pass, but for you it will pass in the blink of an eye.
3. Pain levels are raised to 50% of the pain you would actually feel. Competition clue: Great people need people, a sword, a shield and a pen.
Then the message disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Orion saw that everything began moving again. He though it was a joke and smirked, not believing the message. He tried to log out but couldn’t. No matter how many times he tried he was still stuck. Orion tried to get up but his legs didn’t have any strength. His hands were shaking a bit and felt sick. He crawled to the lake edge and as he arrived he threw up. It seems that some other things changed as well. He didn’t know he could throw up in the game.
