Chapter Six
----------------------------------------
“Elemental!” The cat yowled, her fur bristling as she backed away. A flash of lightning solidified into a humanoid shape, hovering in front of the entrance. The creature moved towards the cat, striking her with a fist that sent her flying into the back wall.
As I started to hesitate, I decided I couldn't leave her behind. She was the only intelligent creature I had encountered so far.
Determined to save her, I growled in frustration and darted towards the elemental. With a swipe of my paw, I felt a surge of electricity course through me, but I shook it off and continued to attack. My final hit connected solidly, enhanced by [Swipe], causing the elemental to dissolve into a glowing orb. I ran to it, pawing at the orb, before instinctively swallowing it whole.
“No wait, don’t eat… The core. Yuck… You aren’t going to explode on me now, are you?” Selene said, concern in her voice.
“It was a little fizzy, but very satisfying. Are you okay?” I asked, worried about her well-being.
“I’ll be fine. Though, I suppose I have to let you stay now, don’t I? I’m Selene,” she said, standing up and stretching.
“I did save you, didn’t I. And my name is Aella,” I replied.
“So, Selene, was it? If I’m going to stay, I expect you have some rules?” Selene smirks.
“You know it, Dog,” she teased.
“I’m a True Draconic Fenrir, thank you very much!” I bristled, annoyed with this small cat.
“Ah, so you’re a lizard dog? Very fitting,” Selene quipped.
“Anyway, first rule, clean up after yourself. I’m not going to be cleaning up your fur or… scales. Second rule, try not to lead monsters into this place. It's annoying to have to deal with them,” Selene laid down the ground rules before I could protest.
“Cats,” I muttered. “Always so insufferably smug.” After walking a short distance from the temple ruins, I finally sat down to catch my breath and to look at my notifications.

Wait, what’s this? Lightning? That sounds cool! I sat down, then focused on a nearby boulder. I guess I do this like my other abilities? A flash of lightning lit the sky, before crashing down on the mossy boulder. I stare at the burnt remains of the boulder, then begin wagging my tail. This is awesome! I bet it does a ton of damage!
I catch the scent of something furry and grin evilly. Well, as evilly as a wolf can. Perfect. I aim the lightning at a jackalope sitting near a tree. Lightning! Like the boulder, a lightning bolt streaked down, but unlike with the boulder, the lightning hit the tree instead of my mark, lighting it on fire.
I stare at the fire in shock before Selene appears beside me. “Dog! What are you doing?! You're going to light the forest on fire!”
“I wasn’t trying to…” I try to say. Selene sighs, exasperated.
“Mother!” She shouts. A cold wind blows before a dryad materializes beside her, glancing at the tree in alarm. “This idiot,” Selene pointed at me,“Lit this tree on fire. Can you put it out?”
The dryad, Mother, sighs, before clapping once. A dark cloud appeared overhead, then began pouring water onto the fire. And on me. Mother summons an invisible sphere over her and Selene, protecting them from the heavy rain. “Really, you couldn’t have made that just a little bigger?” I said, giving them a flat stare after the rain was gone, standing there with extremely wet fur.
“Don’t look at me like that.” Mother said, booping me on the nose. “You set the fire, so you deal with the consequences. How did you set that fire?” I shuffle my paws before admitting,”I was trying to hit a jackalope under the tree, but my lightning hit the tree instead.” She sighed again. “Trees conduct lightning. Until you have better control on your ability, I expect you’ll practice in more open areas.”
Mother said, glaring at me. “I don’t want to keep putting out fires. And since you’re staying with Selene, make sure she eats. She forgets sometimes and we can’t have her starving.” I nod, smiling slightly, before shaking my coat out. Mother starts laughing, and when Selene glares at her, I can’t help but join in. Maybe staying with Selene won't be so bad. It could be fun.
