Chapter Eighteen: Winter Frostborne
----------------------------------------
The young two-tailed kitsune ran along the forest trails in her white fox form, happily bounding through the place none others would dare to go. Suddenly, she heard a commotion ahead and quickly dove into cover, her keen senses on high alert. As she peered out cautiously, a peculiar green, cat-like creature dashed into view, closely followed by two gnolls.
The kitten made a daring move, darting towards a pile of boulders and disappearing into a crack. The gnolls jabbed their spears into the hole in a frenzy, barking loudly in frustration. In a quick and nimble fashion, the kitten emerged from the other side of the rocks and stealthily made its way towards the fox.
Finding refuge in a bush, the kitten and the kitsune huddled together, sharing a moment of solidarity amidst the chaos. Winter gently scooped up the kitten, her heart swelling with compassion for the brave little creature. As they reached her hidden camp, she transformed back into her human form, curious to know more about her new companion.

"Hello, little friend. What is your name?" Winter inquired softly as the kitten meowed in response. "I see. Do you wish for me to give you a name?" The kitten's meows grew more eager, prompting Winter to suggest, "How about Sylvanus? It means child of the forest in my native tongue. You can be called Syl for short. My name is Winter."
The kitten purred in contentment, seemingly accepting its newfound title. Winter, intrigued by the kitten's origins, used her magical abilities to learn more. "Can I use [Identify] on you?" she asked, receiving a mysterious revelation about the kitten being a Mistwood Cub – a creature only spoken of in legends.
Overwhelmed with gratitude towards her new companion, Winter offered Sylvanus the opportunity to join her on her journey. With a flash of light in their eyes, Sylvanus showed his willingness to bond with Winter, granting her access to its unique elemental abilities.
As Sylvanus disappeared into Winter's silvery tattoo, she whispered, "I'll call you out soon. Goodbye for now." With a new ally by her side, Winter slept.
