“They’ve been in there for a while, don’t you think?”
Lulu asked her older sister. Sela’s wandered to the side in thought.
She still hasn’t accepted the contract…
“Maybe Madam Rosa is being super picky about her choice of clothing? You know how she is.”
Tiana, who rejoined the group, pitched in her thoughts.
“That’s right, remember when Shireen wanted to wear that short skirt? Madam Rosa was red in the cheeks after chewing her out.”
Nelath commented offhandedly. Out of all the girls in the group, she was the one who spoke the least. However, she could never pass up an opportunity to make fun of Shireen.
“Hey! That skirt was really cute on me…”
Shireen pouted and turned away from the stream of giggles that followed.
“And useless…”
Nelath interjected one last commented with a subtle smile.
“Oh? You girls certainly seem bored. Tiana, did Noel help you out?”
A mature voice carried itself across the room, causing their ears to perk up instantly.
“Yes, it fits perfectly! It feels so flexible as well. Thank you Madam Rosa!”
Tiana gave her reply, which Lulu then followed up with her own question.
“Madam Rosa, where is Xin?”
“Oh that…”
The elderly woman grinned and stepped to the side, revealing a soul stirring beauty behind her. All eyes went wide with shock as they took in the altered appearance of their newfound friend.
“She’s…”
Sela was just as speechless as her eyes wandered with the rest of the girls.
“She’s so beautiful.”
Lulu managed to mutter under her breath, but she only spoke what the rest of the girls were thinking.
Jun took a step forward, fully revealing his makeover.
His new dress, which was modeled after the old one, was black with a blue threading that formed simple designs. Its length came down to his shins, where one could then see that he was wearing black tights of the same color.
His feet were now clad in pair of simple but comfortable black shoes, which also were etched with blue lining. These shoes seemed to be a matching set with his gloves, as they were also etched with a similar blue threading.
The top of the dress revealed just enough of his collarbone and neck that it left the rest of his body to their active imaginations. Additionally, his hair also received a makeover, giving it a more messy and wild look.
His face was now decorated with light makeup around his eyes, which caused his piercing blue irises to stand out further. Finally, his perfectly structured jawline only seemed to draw their attention to his alluring lips resting in the center.
“W-What. Eeeee! You’re so pretty!”
Lulu was the first to break out of the spell as she rushed up and gave Jun an enormous hug.
Coincidentally, he was also at the perfect height for his face to nearly be buried in her chest. He barely turned his head in time to avoid death, choosing to simply stand there and accept her good intentions.
“Ahem. You certainly look very different, Little Xin. Madam Rosa, what will the bill be? It looks like you went above and beyond for our new friend.”
Sela managed to speak up and made her way to the store owner.
“Oh, bless my heart I really did get carried away. Just pay the material prices for it, and don’t worry about the formation and artisan surcharge.”
Sela’s mind shook when she heard that she’d only pay for the material price.
Madam Rosa was an extremely talented artisan and formation expert who only provided services for upper class women. This was why only women were in her shop, and each of these customer’s came from prominent families.
Rosa’s Threads was incredibly famous within the inner circle of high-class women. Each of her shops all withheld a certain level a quality, even though the women herself usually spent her time in the tutorial zone.
When someone asked Rosa why she mostly stayed in Tutorial City, her reply was simple.
“Because I like to meet and help my customers during the times that matter most.”
After that day, the respect for the woman and her business only skyrocketed further. It was due to this same fame that everyone also understood one simple fact.
Rosa would never offer a discount or deal to anyone; she simply had no reason to.
Just what happened in there for Madam Rosa to sell at material’s price?
Sela couldn’t help but stare at Rosa strangely.
“Don’t think too hard on it little girl. I simply got carried away and forced this beautiful flower to be my model for a time. Speaking of which, I really should be helping other customers.”
Sela nodded and bowed slightly towards Madam Rosa.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
“Thank for very much for your hard work, Madam Rosa.”
Her sentiment was then echoed by the rest of the group.
“Thank you Madam!”
“Thanks…”
“I still want that skirt…”
Everyone glanced at Shireen who was mumbling under her breath.
“Out with you damnit!”
Madam Rosa shooed them away with fake anger. The girls laughed amongst themselves as they were chased out with Jun trailing after them.
Just as he exited the store, he glanced back over his shoulder toward his new benefactor.
He could barely make out Madam Rosa’s gentle smile from within the crowd. He smiled back as she waved at him before turning away.
“So Little Xin, you’ll be joining us, won’t you?”
“Oh, that.”
He pulled up the contract on the system display. After a small pause, Sela’s eyes lit up as she grinned happily.
“It’s done. Thank you for allowing me to follow along!”
He bowed towards his new team, who all cheered in excitement.
“Now we should have a party to celebrate!”
Shireen announced with enthusiasm, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.
“Nonsense, Xin still needs to pick her class, and then it’ll be time to train. Stop thinking about parties all the time! That’s why your grades are dropping in academy!”
Nelath’s words were like a glass of ice-cold water splashed on Shireen’s head.
“Nelath is right, we need to help out our new teammate. Let’s head to the class selection hall.”
Sela’s words were like the voice of god and they obediently tagged along. Lulu took this opportunity to walk alongside Jun.
“So what suggestions is the system giving you? I only assumed you need to visit the class selection hall.”
Jun glanced at the system display again and read it in more detail.
“Um, visit the class selection hall is the first one. The next one is to view a mission board, but I don’t know what that is. After that, it says for me to increase my tutorial rank.”
Lulu nodded her head while pretending to look serious.
“Mm. Mm. Very good suggestions. You can take it from me, your elder who knows best. These are good suggestions.”
“Psh, don’t listen to Lulu, but do listen to Sela.”
Shireen spoke up from behind, while Nelath made a rare grunt in agreement.
“Definitely, Sela. Not Lulu.”
Lulu’s mouth hung in shock as she pretended to have been stabbed through the heart.
“How could you guys betray me like this!”
The group giggled once more, while Sela simply smiled while leading the way.
“What is the mission board?”
Jun asked Lulu who glanced at him before straightening herself up.
“There’s multiple mission boards all throughout Tutorial City. Technically you can select a mission before you visit the class selection hall, but that’s not really advised.”
Lulu looked around for a moment before spying something in the distance.
“There’s a mission board up ahead. You’ll see the mission option become available on your display when we pass by it in a minute.”
As they continued walking forward, the group eventually came across a red floating prism about the size of a small child. It was surrounded by a crowd of people as it bobbed up and down in place.
“Now the mission board selection should be lit up. Try choosing it with your thoughts. It should come up with a list of all available missions, but most of them will be locked for you. Take a look.”
The group paused as Jun mentally thought about selecting the missions option. Soon his display with filled with various missions, but most of them had a red border indicating that he couldn’t select it.
“You can also sort the missions and filter them, but we can get into that later. I should also mention that tutorial guides like Sela can only join us on certain missions, and there’s only a few of those for each difficulty. “
Lulu casually explained as the group once again set off. After a few seconds of walking, the mission option greyed out once more.
“Why do we have to visit the mission board? Why can’t we just choose missions from anywhere?”
Jun asked loud enough for all the girls to hear. Sela glanced back at him from the front and explained.
“There’s quite a few reasons. One is to make things fair. Some missions are simply better than others. If you could leisurely choose what mission you want from anywhere then it would create a system where people don’t actively accept missions until the best ones come around.”
As she was explaining, the group passed by another crowd of people that were conversing around a different mission board.
“Also take a look at that group. With the mission boards being out in the open, it promotes an environment for you to meet new people. Most people, such as yourself, enter PSI World on their own. The tutorial is designed to help acclimate beginners to PSI World and working together as a team is one part of that.”
Jun’s gaze lingered on the loitering group as they passed by. Despite smiles on some of their faces, he knew there were darker thoughts brewing behind the mask.
This guy is repulsive. The only reason I’m going on this mission with him is because he’ll ensure it succeeds. I hate having to flaunt around like this.
A girl’s bell-like laughter fluttered within the crowd as she teased the man in front of her. At the same time, other types of thoughts could be heard elsewhere.
This fucking idiot. He wants to group with me and my brother? His mission score is way too low. We’ll have to pick a mission where we can kill him off to teach him a lesson. Maybe we can charge him a protection fee.
Two muscular men were staring at a third man with raised eyebrows. It looked like the third man was trying to cater towards them, but the reason for doing so was unknown.
Jun shook his head as he observed the fiasco before him.
“People will always hide their inner darkness.”
He muttered under his breath at an almost inaudible level, but Sela’s ear twitched—she picked up his voice with clarity.
She smiled imperceptibly, unconsciously nodding her head in agreement.
After walking down a few pathways, the lively group eventually came across an enormous structure that towered over its surroundings. It was shaped in a giant dome and had multiple entrances where people flowed in and out of like a tumultuous river.
“Xin! Xin! Do you see that? That’s the class selection hall!”
Lulu excitedly pointed towards the magnificent building as they closed the distance.
“Why is it so big?”
Jun asked Lulu who was humming beside him.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, if you’re just picking a class… Or rather, I heard that the system tells you what class you should be. Why is there such a big building for something so simple?”
“Oh! Well that’s easy! The class selection hall is secretly a massive formation created by the system. Didn’t you learn this in school?”
Jun scratched his head and gave an awkward smile.
“I was… absent.”
Or asleep.
“Well, that’s okay. I happen to specialize in formations so I had a strong interest in this subject. The scale and complexity of the class selection hall is something that even formation masters will never be able to comprehend, but we have a general sense of how it works.”
She pointed towards the entrance where people entered and exited on either side.
“There’s a lot of people each day that need to have their starting class selected. In fact, this is only a portion of the total number of people that are being examined at a single moment. Did you know that there are multiple instances of Tutorial City?”
Jun shook his head. This was all new information to him.
“Yes! There’s many replicas of Tutorial City in existence at one time, and there’s millions of new people each day. There’s also millions of people leaving each day, but that’s a different conversation.”
She licked her lips, her eyes glowed with enthusiasm.
“The class selection hall is empty inside, but when people enter the building for the first time they are whisked away into a private dimension. It’s within this space that the system diagnoses the person and provides a suitable suggestion.”
“Oohh, I see.”
Jun nodded his head in thought.
“You understand now? That huge building is just one giant formation to provide as many individual spaces as possible for as many people as possible. Additionally, it’s so complex that it can diagnose each of these people simultaneously and provide accurate readings. Isn’t it incredible?!”
Lulu eyes were wide as she worked herself into a frenzy. Her breathing was ragged as if she had just run a marathon.
“Settle down Lulu, don’t scare of Little Xin now.”
Sela tapped Lulu on the head, which seemed to take her back to reality. Then she turned to Jun with a gentle smile.
“So this is it. Ready to find out what your class will be?”
