Chapter 24: A Mile in Another’s Dress (1)

Rapturous lights bloomed behind Jun, giving him an otherworldly appearance as Myra looked up from the ground. His hand was small, but his posture made him seem like an imposing and unmovable mountain.

It was only after she fully stood up that she remembered the boy was at least a couple inches shorter than her.

“I forget that you’re younger than the rest of the class.”

Myra made a weird smile and took a step back.

Naturally, Jun didn’t take offense to any of this. It was true that he was younger and not fully grown as of yet. Even the women that were his own age were taller than him, let alone someone who was older—but what did he care?

“Yes, yes.”

Jun waved his hand in the air dismissively.

“I might be small, but at least I’m not as weak as you. Speaking of which, have you ever thought to train your body?”

Myra froze after hearing his response. Jun raised an eyebrow at the startled girl and snorted.

“So you’re lazy and you still want everything handed to you. Is that it?”

He folded his arms, and his condescending stare made him seem taller than before.

“N-No that’s not it.”

“No? I was stronger than the current you at half my age. At least consider for a moment why no one in your family takes you seriously. What accomplishments have you achieved? What is there to be proud of?”

Myra stood silently as she thought hard. She wanted to refute the words coming out of the young boy’s mouth, but her mind only drew a series of blank thoughts.

“Forget it. We’ll just fix that.”

Jun then turned to face Bennon, who was off to the side with Ciena the entire time.

“Bennon, can you give her an assessment?”

Bennon stepped forward and rotated his shoulders to stretch.

“Wouldn’t it be better for Ciena to give an assessment?”

Jun eyed Ciena, who currently held an expressionless face. Unfortunately, her thoughts were anything but kind.

I’ll destroy her. She can never be good enough. How dare she intrude in this space. This is the perfect chance to break her apart.

Jun felt as a wave of chills spread throughout his body.

“At the moment, I think you’ll be better suited for this. I’ll have to trouble you Bennon.

Bennon made his way toward Myra with a crooked smile on his face, causing Jun to mentally sigh and shake his head.

Who did I offend to have the two craziest subordinates in the world. He looks like a murderer, but at least that’s better than Ciena.

Myra faltered and took a defensive step back as the mountain of a man closed the gap.

“Is this really necessary? Why do I need to train my body anyway? You know I’m an acolyte in PSI World right?”

Myra shivered like a soaked cat at the thought of having to perform grueling exercise.

“Ah yes, classic magic user mentality. Don’t worry, we’ll get to that after you’ve been tested. Bennon go ahead and begin. I’m going to get changed.”

Jun walked away as if he were escaping a crime scene. In the distance he could hear Bennon declaring in a loud voice.

“Young lass, today we’ll be testing your strength, agility, flexibility, and endurance. Let’s start with strength, come with me.”

----------------------------------------

Jun came back to the center stage feeling refreshed from a bath, wearing a classic set of black pajamas that were lined with red stitching.

He was just in time to find Myra collapsed on the ground. She gasped for breath while lying on her back in the shape of a starfish.

A red blush, along with sparkling droplets of sweat, could be seen on the surface of her skin across her entire body. Her display was unintentionally erotic.

“Gaaaahhh... Aaaahhh…”

Jun could hear her whimpers as he got closer. Despite her alluring looks, Bennon paid no attention to her state of being and promptly delivered a report to the young boy.

“She fails in almost every category. She barely has any redeeming qualities in terms of physical fitness. It’s as if she hasn’t worked a day in her life and only drinks high quality elixirs. However, for what it’s worth, I think she could have potential if her will were to be tempered.”

Jun tapped his finger on his chin in thought.

“That appears to be the case.”

He stepped towards the exhausted girl, who was busy staring at the beautiful lights up above in a daze.

“Myra, tell me. When did you enter PSI World?”

Myra broke out of her reverie and sat up.

“What do you mean?”

“I’m asking, how old were you when you completed the tutorial.”

Jun clarified and squatted down, matching her eye level. Despite her sultry appearance, his expression was as cold as ice.

“Around 12? Why?”

Jun narrowed his eyes at her response.

“And when’s the last time you entered PSI World?”

Myra faltered, her eyes shifted away.

“13…”

Her response was quiet, but still audible to everyone in the room.

“Haaah…”

Jun let out a deep sigh and gently kneaded the sides of his head.

“Can I ask why you stopped entering PSI World? As an elite socialite, you should know best the direction of business and power this world is going in.”

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

He gave a wry smile as his brain worked in overtime.

“I don’t like that place. I don’t feel like I belong there. I’m not good at doing anything there.”

Her response initially came out in a haughty and defensive tone, but her next words were almost too quiet to hear.

“I can tell that no one likes me. I know that they only follow me because of my status. Everyone who groups with me ends up having to pull my share of the work as well.”

Jun listened patiently to her mumbling without any interruptions.

“It’s awful when I feel their stares behind my back. I don’t really like ordering people to do things for me, it’s just that I can’t participate otherwise. I’m just not skilled enough.”

I’m not like her. No matter how much I tried to be like her, I just can’t do it.

She pulled her knees to her chest while looking down at the floor.

“I see. Not skilled enough? Maybe you’re right, but who are you comparing yourself to?”

Myra froze after hearing his question.

“Hina?”

She gave a small nod when he nailed it on the mark.

“Something isn’t quite adding up. How are you trying to compare yourself to her? Did she also get classified as an acolyte? Did you both specialize in the same element?”

He looked upward in thought before continuing.

“That’s the only real way two individuals could be compared together, and even then there should be variance. I find this hard to believe.”

At this point, Jun took a seat beside her. His face was still cold, but his eyes showed a bit of warmth that didn’t go missed.

“Huuu…”

Myra let out a breath of air before explaining.

“I started the tutorial the moment I found out that Hina had. I wanted to stay comparable to her no matter what.”

Her eyes grew distant as she dug into long-buried memories.

“She started a couple days before me, and that’s how I knew her initial class specialization. The system recommended for her to be an acolyte with a holy element.”

Jun squinted his eyes in thought.

“And you are also an acolyte, how convenient…”

Myra looked him sideways and nodded.

“That’s right, I’m also an acolyte, but… the system didn’t recommend acolyte for me. I was recommended to be a fighter.”

Jun couldn’t stop his lower mouth from hanging in shock.

A non-acolyte class trying to become an acolyte was one of the hardest class shifts someone could make. That’s why nobody did it. If a user didn’t have a talent for magic manipulation then they were essentially a lost cause.

“Alright, so you were recommended to be a fighter, but you chose to be an acolyte because of Hina. I imagine you also tried to pick the holy element as well?”

Certain elements had a higher affinity for healing and restoration than others, and the holy element happened to have one of the highest affinities.

Myra gave a self-deprecating smile after hearing his question.

“If only it was so easy. The moment the system recommended fighter to me, I immediately rejected it. I so desperately wanted to be like her. I wanted to match her and become her equal so that she would finally look at me once again.”

She bit her lip.

“I told the system I wanted to start off as an acolyte. It tried to push fighter on me once more, but I didn’t relent. I specified I wanted to start with the holy element as well, but…”

Jun raised an eyebrow as her voice trailed off.

“But?”

“But the system said I didn’t have enough innate talent with that element. The only element I could start as an acolyte with at all was fire. The other elements I would have to earn with merit points over time.”

Not only did she not have innate talent to become an acolyte, but with what little ability existed she could only use it for the fire element.

“So you became an acolyte with the fire element. I still don’t see an issue with this, or was it too challenging?”

Myra frowned before responding.

“It was incredibly challenging. The only reason why I was able to complete any missions at all was due to my followers. Talented people of the young generation were assigned to accompany me during my time in the tutorial. Without them…”

Her eyes shifted about and she let out another sigh.

“I don’t know what I was thinking. Towards the end, I used all of the merit points that I had collected throughout the entire tutorial to learn the holy specialization. It was only after I took my first steps with holy that I understood how much more difficult it was for me than fire.”

Jun shook his head in pity.

“So let me guess. You’re barely a novice acolyte in the fire element, and for holy you don’t even count as a novice at all. Considering the amount of time you’ve spent in PSI World, I’m sure nobody besides your followers would want to join you for any type of activities.”

Myra glanced at him and nodded her head.

“So you quit. You thought to yourself that you could simply make something of yourself outside of PSI World. Normally, you’d be right. You’re in the position for it after all. A princess of an incredibly powerful kingdom.”

Jun stood up and stretched his arms overhead before continuing.

“Except one crucial detail. The same detail that held you back in PSI World. You don’t have ambitions of your own. You’re just a puppet that’s been nurtured from young, and now the light to your darkness is gone because you cannot overcome you own personal inferiority.”

He clapped his hands together and chuckled.

“Hah! Wonderful! So tell me, princess. What are you going to do about it? Your Hina is walking further away from you even as we speak. How are you going to catch up?”

Myra looked up at the smiling boy in confusion.

“I-I don’t know. I’ve ruined everything to the point that it’s irreparable.”

A glint flashed in Jun’s eyes.

“Oh? I wouldn’t say it’s irreparable. The question is, what are you willing to sacrifice to fix your situation? Are you willing to push beyond the disdain of those around you and become your own person? Are you willing to momentarily discard your one-sided infatuation for a woman who has moved well beyond you?”

Myra sat in silence as he spoke. Each of his questions prodding her thoughts forward.

“The system recommended you become a fighter. Would you be willing to start over from scratch and give PSI World an earnest attempt? You could try to improve your life as a princess instead, but with your current trajectory that seems doomed. Without your own strength, you will only be fated to be a puppet.”

Myra stood up with wobbly legs, clearly she was quite sore already. Despite her silly looking action, her hands were balled into fists and her brow was deeply furrowed.

“You’re right. I need to live for myself… right? But where do I start? I’ve already chosen acolyte as my class, and I’m not good enough to earn the merit points needed to dig myself out of that hole.”

Jun grinned widely before bellowing out.

“Bennon!”

The huge man walked forward astutely.

“Yes boss.”

“You’re a fighter, aren’t you?”

Bennon shifted his eye towards Myra before nodding.

“I started out as a fighter, that is correct.”

Jun nodded, but he didn’t stop there.

“Ciena!”

“Young master.”

Jun flashed a charming smile in her direction, which caused her eyes to glow with passion.

“My beautiful assistant, may I ask what class you are?”

“I am… Ahem.”

She cleared her throat.

Whoops, I almost said too much.

Ciena thought to herself before speaking again.

“I started as a scout, but I have branched into both fighter and acolyte for my own needs.”

Her response startled Myra greatly.

“You’re all three? How is that possible? Just how rare is that? Who-“

“Enough. It looks like you have your two dedicated trainers.”

Jun promptly interrupted her and spread his arms out wide.

“Do you see this place? Do you like it?”

Myra nodded shyly as her eyes roamed about the arena once more.

If she knew what to look for, perhaps she would have been able to determine that the training facility used to be one of the most highly rated clubs in the world.

“Then you’ll train here with these two. Treat this like your new tutorial. Treat this like your fresh start. You have just under 100 days left, because that’s when my tutorial ends.”

Jun’s smile almost seemed demonic, a side of him that no one had ever seen at academy.

“How badly do you want Hina to notice you? Don’t you think she’d rather you complement her class, instead of trying to match her?

“But, what about my family? I can’t just stay here forever.”

She straightened her posture as if she just remembered that she was a proper princess.

“Ah, that. Right. I have an idea for that. At the end of the week, you’ll return to your family for the weekend. You’ll be silent on what happens here. If they ask then simply tell them that you are finding your own path right now. I’m sure they’ll at least give you that amount of space.”

Jun let out a thoughtful hum before continuing.

“At the beginning of the week, you’ll go to academy like normal. At academy you’ll act normal, but don’t interact with Hina anymore.”

Myra narrowed her eyes was just about to speak when Jun shook his head.

“Do I really need to explain to you how it’ll turn out? I don’t need you on the verge of suicide once again after confronting your own inferiority. Become the best you that you can be, and then confront her. Otherwise, just be silent.”

Jun paused to give her a chance to speak. The music in the background shifted into a soft piano masterpiece.

“You asked me for help. This is what I can do for you. You asked me how I can remain so carefree? I’ll tell you what then. If you stick with this until I get out of the tutorial, then I promise to reconnect you with Hina on some level, but you’re not allowed to ask how. Do we have a deal?”

Jun stuck his small hand out with the same sadistic grin on his face.

His words were enticing to the current Myra. There was nothing more she wanted than to fix the hell she called life.

Regardless of what she felt, his bewitching face made her feel like she was making a deal with the devil himself. Despite that, she took a deep breath and bravely stepped forward, shaking his hand firmly.
